Ok. Ok Ok Ok.
So I picked this up on PSN. I've been a big fan of Asscreed since the start. Unity was the first game I didn't bother with in the series because it just didn't interest me, especially since I'd spent so much time on Black Flag. I am so glad I got Syndicate though. They've fixed some of the dodgier AI, and it looks stunning. I mean, stunning. We all knew it was going to be pretty, the Asscreed series always is, but holyjesuswow.
Things what I loike.
There's an awful lot to like about Syndicate, the twins mechanic is interesting although I need to make more use of it and the story is so far keeping me engaged, past the point where the AC storyline traditionally goes bat**** insane around the second half. Also the aforementioned prettiness. They have really succeeded in creating an atmosphere within the city. The freerunning mechanic seems to have been revised heavily, it feels more natural and less frustrating. I've spent a tonne less time accidentally clinging to things that I was trying my hardest not to cling to. The combat feels more difficult, which is what the series needed really. It's less reliant on standing still and waiting to counter everyone to death as they queue up to hit you. Mission variety seems hugely improved. I've racked up a few hours and only one tailing mission. Also the mega-frustrating Eavesdropping missions seem to have been given the boot. Also the Thames. It's like playing free-roam Frogger. And I love that. The grappling gun too. Movement in general is just so much better than it was.
Things what I don't loike.
The map is pretty unintuitive. I can see this being intimidating for first time players. I also don't like the way that Blighters, who are everywhere, will engage in combat with you on sight until you have the Notoriety perk. To this end it feels like the series has lost it's way a little bit. Part of the fun originally was stealthing through crowds because you're a nobody, in disguise. Apparently you're the most famous twins in the world because everyone can recognise you on sight from 500 paces. This may be neither here nor there but for me there are too many different upgrade menus. Equipment Upgrades, Skills, Gang Upgrades & Crafting could have all been under one menu with tab options. It's just a little disorganised and messes up an otherwise sleek interface and menu system.
