Why? With all the AI you're more than likely going to have to upgrade.

I think there's around 30 NPC's on screen running individual AI's, which, from interviews, are extremely interactive. Better start saving for that new CPU and more memory.

It's definately coming for the 360 too. Gamespot has the news. Link
It's supposed to be released on the same day as well. I wonder if all the screen shots we've been looking at are PS3 or 360?
I don't mind either way as I'll have both consoles. And as far as I know Assassins Creed was never mentioned as an exclusive by either Sony or Ubisoft. But prepare for fanboy madness (not necessarily here) all over the interweb:rolleyes:

New interview about the game, plus new details about the X360 version.

Assassin's Creed Q&A - Assassinating the Xbox
Producer Jade Raymond answers a few questions in light of this promising action game's recently unveiled multiplatform development.

Assassin's Creed was Ubisoft's most talked-about game at this year's E3, but it never struck us as the sort of game that ought to be confined to just one platform. Nevertheless, the company has always insisted that this promising action adventure from the creators of the latter-day Prince of Persia games would appear only on the PlayStation 3--until now. Finally, Ubisoft has come clean about development of an Xbox 360 version of Assassin's Creed, which has certainly whetted our achievement-craving appetites. For the first word on the 360 game, we went straight to producer Jade Raymond.

GameSpot: Why did you decide to bring Assassin's Creed to the Xbox 360?

Jade Raymond: Our ambitions with Assassin's Creed are high: We're aiming to deliver a completely new gameplay experience on a brand-new engine. With artificial intelligence, physics, animation, and graphics ambitions like ours, we weren't sure how many consoles we could support. But we always wanted to share our next-gen vision with as many gamers as possible. We have just recently been able to prove to ourselves that we will be able to deliver on both systems without sacrificing the quality or innovation of our original concept.

GS: How long has the game been in development?

JR: A small core team started working on the concept and technology for Assassin's Creed a little over two years ago. Creating an engine from scratch to fully take advantage of the next-gen systems has been interesting and challenging because you have to wait a lot longer to see gameplay materialize and you're never really sure what is good enough. For a while we had to ban the words "next-gen" because people were getting hung up on them. We had to find a sweet spot in innovation that allowed us to make progress and not get caught up in the theory of what a game could be.

GS: Will there be any differences between the 360 and PS3 games in terms of content?

JR: I hate to answer in such a lame way, but I can't say right now...

GS: Will the game have any online features?

JR: Yes, we will have downloadable content, achievements, and all of that other good stuff.

GS: Will the control functionality vary by console, such as the PS3 controller's tilt functionality?

JR: We are prototyping this kind of thing right now, but we are not sure yet if the prototypes will make it into the final game. We don't want to add control features if they are going to end up feeling gimmicky. We want to make sure that everything in the game, including controls, makes sense within the overall experience and adds to it.

GS: What HD resolutions and audio will it support?

JR: 720p and Dolby Digital 5.1.

GS: What can you tell us about the game's achievements?

JR: It's hard to list the achievements in a meaningful way without going through why it's cool to achieve them, but rest assured, they will drive the fiercest competition between you and your Xbox Live friends.

GS: Can we expect a Marketplace demo?

JR: Who am I to stop you from expecting? But I can't confirm anything at this point in time.

GS: Thanks for your time, Jade.

Err, no love for Assassins Creed anymore?

Anyway, just been watching some vids (360).www.gametrailers.com
Something is really bothering me. The voices. The lead character seems to have an a-typical All American hero kinda' voice..in 12th Century Jerusalam. Okay, so it doesn't have to be like Gibson's Passion of the Christ and have everyone speaking in the regions dialect of the time and you can have all kinds of accents in fantasy games, but it ruins the atmosphere in this game.
I like the look of it but they really should do better with the voice talent. Maybe it's just a placeholder voice part (I hope so).

I'm still looking forward to the game but that voice really should change (maybe Heavenly Sword has just spoilt me).

Err, no love for Assassins Creed anymore?

Not really. After taking forever to show new footage, coupled with the trillion bugs that need to be smashed with the release 4 months away, as well as lame looking combat, the voice acting you mentioned, a messed up storyline (sci-fi elements in 12th Century Jerusalem FTL), among other things... I think the general excitement was shot and spat on.

For me personally, I might rent it... maybe.

Hmm. Select:

Medieval // Castles // France
Four-legged // Horse (Arabian) // White

+20% power (1.2hp)
-10% weapon length (shortsword)

Traction Control - on (left hand)
Stability Control - on (both feet)

Gearing: Bloody angry!

GO!

Yeah, I get that feeling too. I do like the look of it but I'll make my decision once (if) a demo turns up on the Xbox Marketplace. I have a lot of other games on my list over the next 6 months. This could take a backseat.

Quite the contrary, I love the fighting in this game. It's the sort of thing real swordsmen do, rather than just waving it around in a flashy game-style combo over and over again. That sort of fighting has it's place... it's just not here.

+20% power (1.2hp)

I'm looking forward to this game - the trailers look fantastic (and Jade Raymond is certainly pretty easy on the eye too ;) ) I like the idea of having to use stealth and realistic movement rather than just another shoot-em-up type game.

I'm also looking forward to finding out how to 'tune' your horse. Maybe there will be a GT-style tune shop, where you can buy different types of horseshoes or saddles? Instead of an oil-change, you could buy your horse a bag of grain?

The game looks awesome, can't wait. The time setting, weapons, interactive environment, realistic combat, supergraphics are more than I would ever expect from a game.

The same goes for Lair (my second most wanted game).

Btw Duck, for only renting these games instead of buying them, the only excuse can be not having enough money to buy them :sly: . They're just amazing games.

The shady ironmonger offers you a bag of ye olde horse amfettermene for six groats. Do you accept?

$70 Collector's Edition
  • Collectible Tin Case
  • Altair Collectible Figurine
  • Penny Arcade Comic
  • Strategy Guide
  • Bonus DVD (videos, interviews, trailers, and some short films)
Not bad for just $10 more. 👍

People have all these doubts about the game, but I bet that once it's released it's gonna be fantastic and everyone will love it again.

It's a November release? Hmm. My diary is rather full towards the end of the year, game-wise. If it gets better reviews then I think it may (I'm thinking generally average to be honest) then I may get it. If not it'll be a rental. Still, I'm a sucker for Collectors Editions (as long as they're not too costly). But there's at least 5 games I want between September and December. That's what you get for owning two consoles!:dopey:

I'll agree that this games looks fantastic, but a couple of things do trouble me.... Are the screens and video's we're seeing PS3 or 360?

And after reading the previews in just about all the mags here in the UK, there seems to be some worry about the control system. Maybe they didn't get much chance to use it.

I really hope this will be a good as it looks.

I was really excited for this game but after seeing some more trailers and reading some of the recent reviews, it seems like the game isn't going to be as good as everyone first expected. The games most important aspect, interaction with AI seems to be average. Crowds just run away screaming "HELP, HELP" or something like that whenever Altair is doing something scary.

We'll see how this game turns out once release, I may rent it then if I am impressed I would buy it.

Has anyone seen the Assassin's Creed commercial? It's the PS3 version with the PS3 logos at the end, just like The Simpson's Game. The NFS: Pro Street commercial is non-denominational.
I have not... and when I try to go see if it's on GameTrailers all I get is the following message:

We are performing site maintenance. Please be patient.
Do you have a link to view this new commercial?

In the meantime, here is a 15-min walkthrough of the latest demo for Assassin's Creed.

EDIT: OK, GameTrailers is back up, so is this the commercial/trailer you are talking about SF?:

Also, I see they have a complete walkthrough of the Montferrat mission, narrated by the producer, Jade Raymond:

Is there going to be a collectors edition for PS3? Like with a tin also? :scared:

Oh yeah, same as the other versions. :) Amazon Link

Has ANYONE seen any videos or screenshots of this game running on the PS3 hardware? All the photos and videos I've seen are all ran on the 360 and it looks absolutely fantastic. I'm a little worried about how this game will look and play on the PS3 since, 'til this day, there has been no videos of any sort that shows this game running on the PS3.

I hope it's not another piss poor port job like a lot of the other multiplatform games that has been out for the PS3. I would really like to buy this for the PS3 but if not, the 360 will be getting more play time as usual. :(

I don't know what video you have been watching, but yes, I have seen videos and screen shots that were from the PS3 edition... and I seriously doubt any of the AC video footage available from the PS stores is from the 360 edition.

Also, it may help comfort you to know that originally AC was only being developed for the PS3, and was only announced that it would be a multi-platform release several months later, so that doesn't even hint that AC is somehow one of these so-called crappy 360 ports.

Can you provide links to these PS3 version that you've seen because all the demo videos I've seen for AC has been running on the 360. Whether it was an exclusive or not, maybe once Ubisoft found out what a pain in the ass it was to work on the PS3 hardware, they decided to develope the game on the 360 and do a port over to the PS3? Could very well be possible. Same thing is happening for GTA4 and the delay is due to developers having trouble working on the PS3 version.

Also, crappy as in me comparing NFS Pro Street side by side on my PS3 and 360 and the PS3 version looks like it was ported from the PS2 version. Same goes for Double Agent, Stranglehold, F.E.A.R., Emoman3 and I could go on and on about the other games that I've done side by side comparison with but I'll save the bandwidth.

Anything is possible, but do you have any proof that that is what’s going on? And can you explain in a technical way, not just generic gab, what exactly is involved in having to port a game to the PS3 versus developing for it, and how that would lower the image quality?

Same thing is happening for GTA4 and the delay is due to developers having trouble working on the PS3 version.
Same thing isn't happening with GTA4... unless you only read posts from xbots and assume everything they say is truthful. As a point of fact Rock Star has made official announcements that they are developing for both systems separately. Also, I'm fairly certain Ubisoft has never once made an announcment that the PS3 edition is a port of the 360 edition... but if you have a source that says otherwise that would be helpful.

Could you post pics of these comparisons with the game cases and a card with your user name on it... as there are a lot of people making some pretty wild claims, and it often turns out they were making some very drastic exaggerations of the truth.

Recently some people were also comparing a demo version of the PS3 edition to the full game of the 360.... which shouldn't be hard to point out how flawed such a comparison is.

If you visit GameTrailers, you'll find quite a few PS3-360 video comparisons, and in several cases, the PS3 edition actually looked better... but again, you never know if someone was "adjusting" the image quality for a particular edition, as that is very easy to do.

They didn't "port" anything. They've said several times that they have two separate and independant programming groups working on each version of the game. There is no "native" version and there is no "port".

And yes, we've seen the PS3 version.. the E3 demo was on PS3, and they recently did several shows in Europe demoing the PS3 version (yes, complete with the square/circle/triangle/X control scheme in the upper right corner, so yes, I'm certain it was the PS3 version). And yes, it looked identical to the X360 version. Just like the developer has said time and again.

On-hand reports from the European shows indicate the PS3 version has a slightly sharper image, offset by mild aliasing. Which would indicate that the X360 version seems to go a bit overboard in attempting to antialias the image, which may explain why a lot of the videos I've downloaded (most of which are the 360 version) always appear to be rather soft, almost blurry. But that could also be the result of crappy authoring for the online videos.

Either way, I have seen absolutely nothing to indicate that one version of the game will be significantly different than the other. As such, I've based my decision on other factors.. like controller preference for action/adventure games, and system noise, which has led me to purchase the PS3 version of this particular game. However, I don't expect the experience itself to be any different.

Of course, we won't know for sure until the game is actually out. Seeing as how most of us are only going to purchase a single version of the game, I don't think any of us are in a position to claim that one version is better than the other, unless we've played both. Personally, I'll be keeping an eye on the threads on Beyond3D, where they'll no doubt be picking apart both versions rather voraciously.

I don't know enough to answer this in a technical way so I'll leave this alone. From what I've heard, though. Porting is when they're using the codes that they did for the other system and just changing things to make it work for a new system. Am I correct on this or did someone lead me the wrong way? I would think that doing this wouldn't optimize the hardware of the system the game is being ported to. If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me because I'm always open to learn new things. :)

I never said anything about PORTING on GTA4. I know they're developing the game seperately for each system. Reason why the 360 version is being delayed is due to trouble with the PS3 version of the game. Rockstar signed an agreement with Sony that they would release both copies at the same time.

This is the link I got the information from. I don't know if it's an "xbot" that you're talking about or not because I have no idea what an xbot even look like. Never seen one before in real life.

I have both done these comparisons but I honestly do not feel like taking that much time out just to prove a point. I know better than to compare a Demo to a final release game, that's just mentally challenged (no offense to any mentally challenged people out there). I've done Demos with Demos comparison and have done final releases with final releases comparisons of some of the games that I've mentioned. Both on the same TV, same settings and everything. The 360 seems to have better details, lighting, shadows and and apparent AA while the Sony version lacks AA. I'm not saying it's night and day difference but enough to see.

Sony's system is capable of a lot, I know. I'm just basing this on the games that have been released. The NFS Pro Street comparison was both with the Demo version on both system and the graphical difference is very noticeable in these 2 demos. Of course, it would mean anything at this point like the 360 version had a more finished version of the Demo than the PS3 version? I'm not ruling anything out. Just stating what I'm seeing when I turn both my 360 and PS3 on and run both Demos.

I would also like to say that some comparisons has gone in Sony's favor with games like Fight Night R3, Oblivion and DiRT. This is proof that the PS3 is a very capable system, just that developers aren't optimizing the system like they should. I have Oblivion for the 360 and rented the PS3 version and the PS3 version does have a much sharper image, a lot less lag and framerate drop along with better details in the lush enviroment of Oblivion.

I'm not here to change anyone's mind or prove anything. Just voicing my thoughts and opinion and what I may or may not know. Like I said earlier, I'm always willing to learn so if you think you can educate me on anything, feel free to do so. You'll be doing me a favor.

I never said anything about PORTING on GTA4.
Well when someone says the following:

"...they decided to develope the game on the 360 and do a port over to the PS3? Could very well be possible. Same thing is happening for GTA4 and..."

Is it that hard to see why it appears that person didn't know GTA4 was being developed separately.. or at the very least it strongly implies they also thought Rock Star had decided to develop the game on the 360 and do a port over to the PS3... after all, when you say "same thing is happening for GTA4" immediately following your theory on a PS3 port, that's certainly what you are implying... but I guess it was just a very poorly worded comment, and not a lack of understanding that the PS3 edition of GTA4 isn't a port.

Reason why the 360 version is being delayed is due to trouble with the PS3 version of the game. Rockstar signed an agreement with Sony that they would release both copies at the same time.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=27326
I suggest you read that article a little more closely. Not only isn't it from anyone at Rock Star or Take Two, but the analyst, Michael Pachter, makes it clear that these are just his theories... which is why he is quoted in that article using words like "We think" and "It's likely". So when you take someone's theory and repeat it as if it was now a fact... as you have here, that's how rumors and theories are turned into false facts.

BTW: Pachter also believed that Take-Two delayed GTA4 in order to boost their 2008 sales figures, although I personally do not subscribe to that theory either. The only official word...

Strauss Zelnick
"I know there have been rumors in the marketplace about frame rate and some other issues. We don't think it's helpful or beneficial to go into exact details of what the technological issues are. We're pushing the envelope on both the platforms."

"This wasn't a decision we took lightly. This wasn't a decision [Rockstar] took lightly."
But let's not get sidetracked, just wanted to make sure that if we want to discus facts, then be sure you know them before spreading rumors and theories as facts.

I have both done these comparisons but I honestly do not feel like taking that much time out just to prove a point.

Glad to see that at least you recognize that some so-called ports look better on the PS3, as it appeared from your first post that perhaps you didn't feel that way.

Any way, going back to your first post.... so what we know right now is that yes, Assassin's Creed has been shown on the PS3, and yes, it started development first for the PS3, and yes, some people who have seen both thought the PS3 edition looked better, and no, there has never been even a hint from Ubisoft that the PS3 edition is some kind of port, and based on what we know, it would appear to confirm that the PS3 edition is not a port, and who knows, maybe the 360 edition is a port?
