This looks like a great game and all but something about its racing atmosphere seems so...lifeless. I can watch PCars videos all day long but I can barely watch a few videos of this game without quickly losing interest.

When I first loaded it up I felt the same but this game is really all about the driving as far as I can tell. After a decade of Gran Turismo, AC is in a different league in that regard. It's pretty impressive. If anything, pick it up in the Steam sale while you wait for PCars ;)

PCars does look more alive I'll give you that, but I can't compare the two because I'm not a PCars member:banghead:. As @GregTheStig points out above, AC is about the driving experience and that doesn't show up on videos. If you compare it to the GT series for example, AC is in a whole other league. Visually GT still has a better lighting engine and even some visual elements are better, but there is simply no comparison in the FFB/driving experience. In AC the cars are alive:bowdown:. The feeling of control, of being on the edge, of being able to manipulate what the car does through the combinations of braking, steering input, throttle etc. just feels right. What you see on the screen, and hear through your ears, and feel through the wheel is all coordinated perfectly to make you feel like you're really driving that car. The cars do what you expect them to do, the tracks feel like they should feel. You feel and see and hear all the little bumps and undulations, the curbs, the rumble strips, the grass, the dirt, the gravel traps:indiff:. When you drive Snoopy's version of the 'Ring, it's like a roller coaster sometimes the way the car just flies over the bumps and undulations in the track.

And every car feels different. The Lotus 49 has nowhere near the grip of a modern race car, and can slip the back end out in a controlled fashion in second and third gear with a good slip angle, just like the real car. A big sedan feels like a big sedan. A little Elise feels light and nimble with just the right amount of oversteer. The KTM feels like a purpose built track car which is pretty much what it is. All the cars feel planted and connected to the road.

The game is far from perfect, there is still a ton that could be done to enhance it, but I am extremely happy with it so far. And it only cost me $23 on a Steam Sale:cheers:

A good summary @Johnnypenso. 👍

The key things for me are the tyre and suspension model. You can "feel" that there is rubber rolling along and scrubbing against tarmac, you can "feel" when the rubber is too hot or wearing down, you can "feel" the weight of a car's metal chassis bobbing up and down, back and forth and side to side on the suspension springs, you can "feel" the undertray hitting the ground on sharp elevation changes etc, with all the sounds applied for these too.

It's a captivating experience.

It is a very dull environment. I spend a lot of time in R3E where the atmosphere is very alive and you really feel like you're at a racing event, it's very exciting and intoxicating. When I play AC there is none of that, no sense of occasion, no sense of excitement, very few "people" in the stands, and very little sense of speed even. It really feels like you've snuck onto an abandoned race track. I've not really experienced anything in AC like the above two posts describe so I find it to be a rather dull experience overall. I'm hoping when my T300RS arrives tomorrow I'll be able to enjoy the game as you guys do.

As pCARS member, owner of AC, RREE and countless other sims, IMHO from a cosmetic point of view pCARS or RREE is better at depicting a race environment while AC is better at depicting a trackday. IMHO none is the best in this area because i like to see the track full of people like in the GT Nordschleife when i race, but when i just drive alone i prefer a more empty track like AC current tracks.

The solution for today super advanced games (ALL OF THEM) is to do something like what GTR2, GT legends did, the spectators are more or less depending at what session of the race you are: practice has few spectators, qualy more and the race is full of spectators.

The best representation of a race from a artistic pow is not in pCARS or RREE, but in a mod track in GT legends: Le Mans 79-86 by virtual LM, IMO is even better than GT Nordschleife.

^ Something I don't believe I've ever seen mentioned is that GT6 has variable crowds depending on time of day. I'm not positive it's like this on all time-change tracks but at the Nurburgring at least if you're driving in the early morning or late evening the crowds are small (the Mercedes arena is virtually empty) but in the afternoon the stands are packed with people. So if you want the track day environment you set the time for early morning, if you want a race day environment you set it for mid-afternoon.

I agree that AC could use some environment overhauls, very few spectators around, or anything else you would see at a live circuit. It's strange to hear cheering and airhorns when nobodies there.

To be honest one of the first games that come to mind that has decent grandstand activity is actually F1 2013.

Enjoy, sim racing turns into an obsession real quick. It is as deep and engrossing as you want it to be. It can be as shallow as a wade pool but it can be as deep as the Marianis Trench if you delve into it. There's a lot to it and part of the challenge is learning about racing car dynamics, physics and setup.

Dear AC followers,
this has been a really great year, and we want to finish at the best possible way. We are proud to announce the official license of Lamborghini Automobili in Assetto Corsa, with a selection of the most beautiful, powerful and iconic models of the prestigious Italian Car Manufacturer. With the addition of Lamborghini, Audi, Toyota, Nissan, Alfa Romeo, Ford and many other contents, Assetto Corsa will bring you the best selection of GT, sportcars and prototypes ever seen in a racing simulation.

Reproducing the cars of an iconic brand like Lamborghini Automobili is a huge honour for us, as well as a very important message to our fans: the decision to make such a huge investment after Assetto Corsa has been released, is the result of our strong believe in this project and in this community. It also means that in the mid future you can expect developments for Assetto Corsa that go well beyond the generic "additional contents".

As said before, the version 1.0 of Assetto Corsa signifies not just the long-term achievement but also a new start.
Our team is already working on contents and features that are scheduled for release during 2015. Some of those have yet to be unveiled, but we are excited about them and confident that we will amaze you once again. Finally, with the inclusion of the Lamborghini license, about fifty additional cars officially licensed will be included in Assetto Corsa during 2015!

You probably already know all about the first additional package as it is the most anticipated by the community, and we bet you want to know more about it: the Dream pack, featuring the Nordschleife official circuit, for the first time fully based on Laserscan technology, will be a total blast! Your racing experience will be elevated to a brand new level. The production and testing of this package has required a huge work, resources and manpower, but we are sure you will appreciate it, turn by turn, curb by curb. Starting next week, we'll share with all our fans the work in progress and the news about the state of completion of the track and the ten awesome cars included in the package, namely the Alfa Romeo's 4c, 155 DTM and GTA, the McLaren's P1 and F1 GTR, the Nissan GT-R Nismo 2014 GT3, the GM Corvette C7R GTE, the Mercedes 190 DTM and Sauber-C9 and the BMW M235iRacing VLN. We will also inform you about pre-order, price and release date.

Someone says that good things need time. Thank you for your patience and your support, as always all our efforts are focused to improve your Assetto Corsa experience even more.

Welcome, Lamborghini. Welcome, 2015!

With the Lamborghinis they have announced and the others, that is 19 cars. So we will be getting an additional THIRTY-ONE cars this year.

So they have both of the Huracan race cars, but not the road car? Something isn't quite right here..

I agree!

I wonder if there is a 1 year exclusivity license for Forza Horizon 2 on the road car? I could have sworn there was another car like that, possibly the P1 with Forza 5.

I'm so glad that I purchased this game in Early Access, if everything stays on the high quality it did so far, then this is going to be an even more phenomenal game!
