I think Audi shouldnt aim for winning, but doing things like setting the Record # of laps, Finishing all of their cars on the same lap, and getting a Front 2 Rows lockout of Qualifying, and the race. See just how many records they can break/make.

I would love for a surprise attack from the Delta wing but chances of them giving Audi even a hint of sweat? me thinks not great. still, one can wish

I kind of find it funny how people are discounting Toyota's challenge. Unlike last year, diesel cars have less fuel to carry compared to petrol. I think that was a major unannounced reason why the Pugs left the scene.

These guys almost stole Le mans 1999. If Audi is spending huge amounts, then they must know that the TS030 is no slouch.

Remember Toyota is the king of hybrid tech at the moment.

For me at least I think they will have the speed, but I don't think the reliability will be there. I feel the same way about Audi's quattro.

And in '98 they their only finishing car was 9th, although it was in contention until a gear box issue popped up. It is extremely difficult to be competitive at Le Mans, it's nearly impossible to do it in the first year.

They announced their hybrid before Peugeot pulled out. They also have never really laid down their guard, the R10 was made while they were still pretty much the only show in town.

On the road car front maybe, the throne is still open when it comes to race cars. Although Audi may have the upper hand because Porsche ran a hybrid 911 last year.

God I hope Audi don't win... don't get me wrong, it seems like a really ineresting car they've built - but I'm rooting for the Toyota, or a freak outright win by the Deltawing!

I'll give advantage to Toyota on the hybrid front. Remember the Supra HV-R?

The first hybrid race car converted from a gt500 supra? It was a few years after that Porsche decided to make one but by that time Toyota was leading the way. Audi lead the way for diesels, don't be surprised if Toyota does the same at Le mans for hybrids.

And Toyota was rumored to start on their hybrid car way before Audi did.

I'm just tired of seeing Audi taking it. I want upsets!

That won't be until 2015 according to Radio Le Mans.

I want anyone but Audi to win. I don't have anything against Audi but I've found it distasteful watching them beat a bunch of privateers over the years. That's why I liked it when Peugeot turned up.

Hopefully Toyota will be competitive.

Looks like I'll be waiting until 2019 then for a race featuring a factory run Audi team that doesn't win judging by their current record of only getting beat in the ninth year* of each decade.

Incredible record they've got there.

*1999 by BMW and 2009 by Peugeot

Is this a hybrid or full electric? The E-tronic name has been used with Audi before. And they had a electric car concept that was the R-tronic, I think. Just curious. Looks like a hybrid...but...still curious.

Yeah. I did a quick google search after I posted it and found out it was a hybrid. Should be an interesting race season with 2 hybrids going at it. Speaking of race season, Sebring is in a couple weeks.

Thats if they dont give up on no serious competition and turn to F1 by then...

Excluding the Bentley, between 2003-2005 the Audi R8's I believe were run by privateer teams so wouldn't be included in his list of factory team wins.

Oh yeah forgot.

Nice car. But no REAL Quattro. only the front wheels are moved by the electric system. Real Quattro on circuit racing would be ridicilous..

Except if you are talking P1, the reason is they'll be the only real competition this year with Peugeot pulling out. dont know why Audi is spending all this money to compete with themselves. they could win LeMans this year with a couple of 2008 spec R10s

If you're really asking why Audi is putting the effort and money into Le Mans racing then you don't really know what Le Mans racing is about. Audi is out there to prove new technology and new systems. Apple didn't have any real competition for the iPhone when it came out, so why did they keep making them better? Seems to fly in the face of your logic. Just saying.

No i understand that, and its why i love the sport (and Audi for that matter). what i was asking is why the chairmen of the investment board were willing to put forth this much money while other teams like peugeot had to pull out because they lost factory financial support.
