Just had a look. The car I built up was the 2009 5.2 FSi Quattro. The in-game description implies that the car has a 4.8 V8 but it actually has the 5.2 V10.

No it doesn't. I'm reading the descriptions of both '09 R8's right now and nowhere does it say anything about a 4.8L V8. There is the '07 R8 4.2L FSI V8 (petrol) which has 414hp, the '09 R8 5.2L FSI V10 (petrol) which has 518hp, or the '09 R8 LMS which was given a 493hp DIESEL V10 (in reality it's 512hp in menu).

Please research first before you type.

I think he's talking about the motor showing in the engine bay it's shows only the V8 not the 5.2 V10

While I admit I mis-typed 4.8 when I meant 4.2 (I'd built about 10 cars that evening for various purposes). However, before criticising my research you should read the description of the 5.2 FSi 2009.

It clearly includes a paragraph about the 4.2 V8... it's almost as if that's the engine that's in the car.

It then goes on to talk about the 5.2 engine - the one which the name of the car implies is actually fitted. However, when you look through the rear window it says "V8" on the engine meaning that the engine is (visually at least) the 4.2 V8 which is mentioned in the description.

Yes, I get the Audi R8 LMS version from the UCD and so all my standaard cars too.
You have to patience, it will takes weeks for they came along, but one day the will.
I usually do 5 races (grinding) and then check the UCD (all cars are refreshed), then another 5 races and so on.

Very true, I have a photomode pic of the engine bay as my profile pic and have complained previously that my V10 was stolen. What makes it even more funny is that the R8 5.2 FSI has V10 badges slapped on the side still.

Consistency has NEVER been a strong point at PD. :dunce:

The '09 R8 LMS does not have a diesel. It has a similar 5.2L V10 to what the road car uses and is gas powered.

It popped up in my UCD last night, in a sort of dark grey colour, for 5.6 million.

I didn't buy it because it looks like a TT with a rear wing on it.... I'm waiting for the Sauber.

Go and read the description then come back to me because that's exactly what it says is in there, a diesel V10, so know your role and back away from the keyboard because you obviously didn't research. Atleast TenEightyOne admitted his was a typo. 👍

Nope. Taken from the description, verbatim, from the Audi R8 LMS car in GT5:
" And though the R8 was rolled out with a V8 initially, there were rumors from the start that it would see a larger engine made available someday, since the engine compartment had plenty of room to spare.
This theory bore itself out when a concept car powered by a 12-cylinder diesel appeared at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, then again in 2009 when a 5.2-liter V10 model, the 5.2 FSi Quattro, entered production."

Cliffs notes:
When the R8 was released with a V8, people thought, 'hmmn, I bet they'll put a bigger engine in it'
2008 revealed a concept V12 Diesel at a car show.
2009 revealed a production model 5.2 V10, non diesel.

Enter the 2009 R8 LMS GT3, a gas powered 5.2 V10, which is the car in the game.

Just do the 4hr nurburgring with an x1. Drive 27 laps and wait for the 4hrs to end. Cross the finish line and the LMS is yours.

Thanks for the tipp, you just made up my mind that i'm going to do this endurance race.

I decided against putting this much time into this game just to win one race... but doing it your way has a nice "minimal effort - maximal outcome" touch to it :)

I love that people only use PART of the description. This is the FULL description, word for word, and note the bold bit.

Based on the Le Mans quattro concept car unveiled at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show, the production version of the Audi R8 supercar debuted at the Paris Motor Show in 2006.

Though the R8 was only given a V8 engine at first, there were rumours that it may receive a bigger engine someday, since the engine compartment had plenty of room to spare. The rumours turned out to be true as a 12 cylinder diesel concept car was shown in the 2008 Detroit Motor Show, and in the following year of 2009, a 5.2L V10 model, the 5.2 FSI quattro was introduced.

With the V10 engine, the specifications were raised to 518BHP/8000rpm power and 54.0kgfm/6500rpm torque. The transmission was the same sequential 6 speed Rtronic, but either a specially designed selector or paddle could be used to shift. Maximum speed was 316km/h with a 0-100km/h time of 3.9 seconds. This greatly exceeds the performance of the previous 301km/h, 4.6 second 4.2 FSI quattro.

The R8 Project did not end here. In the autumn of 2008, Audi announced a GT3 version of the R8. This was the R8 LMS.

The LMS was a competition model for private teams that want to race in the R8. It was given a 493 BHP V10 direct injection diesel engine, and were modified to meet the GT3 category. The wider front and rear wheelarches as well as the large rear wing identifies this car immediately as a pure racing machine.

Before it's release in fall of 2009, Audi introduced four LMS cars into the 24 hours of Nurburgring. They came through with flying colours, with all cars of course successfully completing the race, and winning the GT3 class, ranking 2nd overall.

So, are we going to continue this?? It clearly says it, so stop arguing the point and if you don't believe me, stick that copy of GT5 back in your PS3 and see for yourself.

This is exactly what I have, verbatim, and will post a video so you can see for yourself if need be: note bold indicates differences from 'your so called description' here

And I quote:

"Based on the sultry-looking Le Mans quattro concept car presented at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show, the road-going version of this sleek prototype, the Audi R8, made it's debut at the Paris Auto Show in 2006.

And though the R8 was rolled out with a V8 initially, there were rumors from the start that it would see a larger engine made available someday, since the engine compartment had plenty of room to spare.

The new V10 engine produced 518 HP at 8000rpm and 390.5 ft-lb of torque , and was capable of running from 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds, versus a time of 4.6 seconds for the V8- powered 4.2 FSI Quattro.

But Audi wasn't finished with the R8 yet: In the fall of 2008, the company announced that it would make available a GT3-class competition version, bubbed the R8 LMS, available to privateer racing teams. The new car was successful from the start - Audi entered four cars in the difficult 24 hours of Nürburgring; not only did all four finish but one car won the GT3 class and finished second overall.
Look for more success by the sleek sports car, both on and off the track, in the future
."

It seems our ideas of verbatim vary by quite a bit.
Your description is the equivalent of the NIV compared to the KJV 1611. Full of twisted words and lies.

Directly from the GT5 screen, typed word for word. I still have it on screen.

As for being patronizing I haven't even started. Here's some examples of me being patronizing to you:

Thanks for just calling me a liar considering that is what is on GT5, and I will video it aswell just to show you. Maybe I should just call you a liar with every comment you make?? 💡

But for a final word I will say this which might make things a bit more clearer or confusing, maybe it's a difference in region that's causing the differences in the descriptions, meaning we are BOTH correct.

^Both of you take a photograph and post it on here.

There isn't much info about whether it has a diesel engine or not, but this quote from Auto Express points to a Petrol engine. '
It’s under the bonnet where this car really shines though. Gone is the 420bhp V8 from the road-going machine, and in its place is a high-revving 500bhp 5.2-litre V10 mated to a six-speed sequential box, operated via wheel-mounted paddles.'

This is going a bit too far...

Here's some examples of me being patronizing to you
... and this too...

Clearly, there must be some difference in the versions you are looking at... either that or someone is way better at reading/copy-writing than the other. But is it really worth getting into a protracted argument about it? Not really. Pics and/or confirmation of the different descriptions would be handy, but in the meantime, please keep the discussion civil and please try a little harder to respect each other's comments 👍

The description in mine matches Rayzah's exactly.

Be interesting to see if mafia_boy has a different version.

I've just watched Rayzah's video and it IS different to my one!! The other thing that is confusing the hell out of me is that other people from Australia have the same description as him, which throws my thoughts of different regions having different descriptions out the window!! Expect vid from me in the next little bit, damn camera died cause I forgot to charge the batteries so it's charging right this minute and I'll have my video as soon as it charges enough to film a 30 second clip to show the different descriptions. 👍 Give it an hour or two tops I'd say.

I apologise for getting a bit hostile at you (as TM has pointed out) but I do not like being called a liar and will respond as such, even if it means I cross the AUP line. It's well known that I can walk along the AUP line like a tightrope with some of the things I do say to people when I'm in my moods. :trouble:

Not to mention May is normally a bad month for me on GTP......don't know why, just is, my infractions and warning have all come in May. Maybe it's because I miss the Easter Bunny or something??

*Added Bit #1* - Video has been shot, uploading on YouTube as I type at 60% already done. Give it 10 more minutes.

*Added Bit #2* - Video is uploaded.

Stupid question... but can we confirm that both argu-ees are looking at descriptions for the same car - not the LMS versus the road car?

maybe it says in the GT5 description that the R8 LMS has a diesel, but as a sports car racing fan, I can tell you with 100% confidence that it is gas powered. The only Audi race cars that have been diesel are the R10, R15, R15+, and now the R18, all of which are LMP1 cars

I'd say that MafiaBoys description is wrong but is legitimately in the game. The only Volkswagen-Audi diesel engine that is a V10 is the one fitted to the Volkswagen Phaeton/Touraeg. It'll be interesting to see if anyone elses description is the same.

mafia_boy, no hard feelings. I've been known to be quite the prick from time to time, and this has been one of those times.
It's quite apparent our descriptions vary, leaving behind some frustrating questions. After some serious research, I still can't find any info on a production diesel engine in an LMS R8, but it must be in your description for a reason. Back to the books I suppose.

Try looking at the beginning of my video, and the end of mafia_boy's :sly:

The one pictured in the Autoexpress link has coilpacks fitted which means its a petrol engined version.

Yet the description in my version of the game indicates its a diesel.

Whereas in reality the R8 LMS GT3 racer is a petrol engine car....Audi would've slapped TDI on them if they were diesels.

And yes it is the Audi R16 internally.

Guys, I realise it might seem in my comments that the LMS came with a diesel engine in real life, and I never said such....when I'm talking about things like this, I'm talking from a GT5 perspective (since we're in the GT5 forum). If it was in real life, I'd be in the automotive sub-forums of the site and I'd be talking about it's petrol powered goodness. :)

Now, I had a good night sleep and I'm looking at this from a different perspective so I just went to it's stats and dyno sheet and peak power is 8000rpm, peak torque at 6500rpm & rev limit is 9000rpm which would indicate that it IS a petrol powered car in GT5 and that PD once again have failed in their work in the descriptions. 👎

Either that, or it's the world's highest revving diesel.

Try looking at the beginning of my video, and the end of mafia_boy's :sly:

YouTube doesn't work here - try something more authorities-friendly like Vimeo or TinyPic :D

Checked the description of my Audi LMS Playstation last night (I don't have any 'vanilla' LMS R8s), it definitely states that it has a diesel engine. Which it doesn't in real-life as this thread has definitely established.
