Lately I heard someone say that audi is just a bimmer want to be that's never going to turn out a car that we be worth what it cost.
So I want to know do you think that audi is a bimmer want to be that's nowheres as good as Bmw?
Personaly I think audi is better for a couple of reasons.
1)the R8
2)the quattro
3)the tt

The only hold BMW's got over Audi is that the 5-series is better than the A6. Otherwise, Audi takes every category. I'd even rather have an Allroad than an X5.

Could you include why it's better or worse in your post. The way m5power did.

well i think it comes down to what you want, even though i own an RS6 my previous M5 was a much sportier and well balanced handling machine yet the new RS6 is a more comfortable cruiser. as for the quattro yes an amazing car but BMW also had the original E30 M3 and as the TT is concerned it was never a match for the M Coupe and is still regarded as a dull and boring car to drive, once again though it is a very comfortable cruiser. just my opinion

In the past I think Bmw had the upper hand with the M3 and M5 outgunning the performance Audi's and the previous Gen. 5-series superior to the A6 in looks, performance and quality.

Now with the Banglator messing things up, Audi have surpasses Bimmer in looks and probably popularity.

So your saying that in the sedan world bmw rules, but everywhere else audi is better.

With the new 5 series coming out, the first part of your statement may not be true either in my opinion.

NOTE: 'Everywhere' is a bit of an all encompassing idea. BMW probably still rules the performance stakes on a whole, but not styling or user-friendliness.

Bangle owns all.

Seriously, the new 7/5 series are things of beauty.

For Performance i'd say that the M cars will have the edge over the S series. Mainly because Audi seem to use their AWD systemes to make the cars safer rather than for performance. Also on topgear the new V8 S4 did get a slower time than the current M3. Although Audi's do make great sleepers.

Although i'd have a hard time choosing between the original quattro and an E30 M3. Pah! what am I saying, i'd buy a sierra sapphire cosworth instead. :D

So I am I no doubts that I am undecided.

I find Audis to be more desirable. I think that their styling is awesome, and the way they're put together is magnificent. Their performance models are real aspirational vehicles for the rest of the range, and yet they do not cheapen the range. Compare, for example, A4 1.9Tdi, & 2.5Tdi with BMW 320d and 330d. There's no doubting that both of the six pot cars are superb, but where the A4 1.9Tdi feels just as good only slower, the 320d feels cheap and plasticky, and built down to a price.

Audi's adoption of the quattro drivetrain across the range is also a real bonus, especially if you live in an area of inclement weather. It's an option on all their cars, and is generally in the region of £1,500. If you live where I do, it's a no-brainer.

It's become very fashionable to bash the works of Chris Bangle. Personally I don't like his work, but - let's be realistic - someone is signing these cars off for production, so it's not like he's out on his own little planet. Also, I'm not sure that that should be taken as exclusive grounds for a competitive evalution.

I used to lust after an M5, but don't any more. Why? Erm, not sure really. And I'd still like to have a go in an M3.

But I don't want any BMWs any more, yet I'd happily pay my own money for any of Audi's cars, even the Allroad.

True, i've driven a E46 320i and a Lexus IS200. Both are about the same price and the IS200 has a far better interior. The BM's interior was really plasticy. Mind you I would choose the IS200 over a 320i anyday. I don't really like the current styling of the 3 series, if I was to buy a 3 series it would have to be an E30 or E36.

The only Audi I like is the S4, and I don't even like it that much.

First of all... Don't forget that Audi has S and RS. S is a bit below or pretty much the same as M but RS goes way over the M-top.

I'd pick audi because it has the best quality and attention to detail at this moment, the cars have style and class, quattro rules, not the "vulgairness" of BMW... there is this typical BMW-public I think... Audi has this certain class.

Oh and on top gear the S4 was almost a 1 second faster than the M3 ! not slower

Steve

I like the Audi S4 and Allroad models, but that's about it. For BMW I like the 330xi and in the right colors I can go for the Z4 3.0. Unfortunately they're all over priced. The rest of their cars I don't care for at all.

I don't like comparisons like this because inevitably, one brand is praised while another brand is bashed, when in fact, both brands make excellent automobiles, and neither deserve very strong critisicm.

Audi seems to be slightly stronger in certain catagories. Their styling is more agreeable; very classic and non-trendy. They tend to have nicer interiors... VAG has some of the best designers in the world when it comes to that. They tend to offer better value and come equiped with more standard features. Quattro is a serious boon to those living in the rust belt. Audi's ride/handling compromise is biased towards comfort in most models.

BMW has its strengths as well. They tend to be better balanced, with better weight distribution and neutral handling characteristics. In the same size catagory, BMWs are always lighter than their Audi rivals, making them lighter on their feet. The main controls in a BMW (steering, shifter and throttle) are more direct and positive feeling, offering more feedback. Driving purists prefer RWD to FWD or even AWD. BMW's ride/handling compromise is towards handling in the Sport package models.

I think my own feelings about which brand I'd choose is obvious, but Audi always gets a close look when I shop for new cars.

Incidently, I think this thread would be better off if we looked at models head to head:

330i ZHP vs. A4 3.0 Quattro
545i 6-Speed vs. A6 4.2 Quattro
745i vs. A8
Z4 3.0 vs. TT 3.2
M3 vs. S4
M5 vs. RS6

BMW also has excellent models in its line up that Audi has no direct competitor for. The 645Ci, 3-series coupes and M3 CSL.

The A4 takes the 3-series on every single thing except the price of heated seats. BMW knows their name is worth more, and they price their cars as such. For the price of a base 3-series I could have an A4 and $2600, surprising as the A4 is the better all-around car (more everything except power, negated by similar acceleration times). Again for the base price on a 3-series, I could have the infinitely better A4 1.8 Quattro, still $950 cheaper. For AWD on a 3-series, I have to pay $29600, a full $2700 over the AWD Audi with more spec. It doesn't make sense.

And yes, I understand your argument that RWD is better to 'purists.' Ninety percent of buyers aren't, even if you are.

745i vs. A8

Not even close. I've been studying.

M5 vs. RS6

They've cancelled the RS6, and finding a used one is impossible as only about 500 ever came here in the first place. That, and I know the M5 would get tossed.

BMW also has excellent models in its line up that Audi has no direct competitor for. The 645Ci, 3-series coupes and M3 CSL.

An A4 coupe is due soon. Where's the "Allroad 2.7 vs. X5 3.0" and "Allroad 4.2 vs. X5 4.4i" comparison?

well BMW has concentrated on road racing for the longest of times and Audi started on dirt with the Quattro. they are evenly matched, Not similiar in many ways but it all depends on what your looking for, I know i would be making a race car out an an Audi but i already have a few BMW racecars. Audi is nice but all depends what you want I like performance driving, So id go with BMW the lighter 2dr or coupe is faster than an S4, the S4 is fast but cant match the performance of the M3. but this is coming from someone thats has the BMW M stripes as part of thier signature

Lol, try to match your M3 gainst an RS4... see what happens...

M5Power, I dunno who's told you the 5 series is better than the A6... My dad has driven all, he's driven both for about a 100,000miles and he says the A6 is clearly better than the M5, not only in terms of traction, but also in terms of fuel consumption, handling and top speed (btw:traction=acceleration). As you can imagine I hold my dad as more thrustworthy source than you, my dad used to be professionally involved with the production of automobiles, and is graduated as an engineer, giving him a knowledge of engines and all the other stuff involved with making cars. Besides this theorertical knowledge he's driven many many cars (rental cars when hes on business trips) and he's driven a huge ammount of miles... I dunno, why would we believe you over him? Clearly someone must be mistaking... or is that just an opinion instead of a technological comparission you gave?

did you say the A6 is better than the M5???? if you meant it...you have got your facts mixed up big time!!!! the A6 maby produces 300hp tops, where as the M5 is pushin 400hp, the m5 is much faster, the M5's speed is governed at 150mph, but could do much faster!! what are you talking about?? I think your are the one who is mistaken!! if your dad trully belives that, I would not trust his opinion. maby you have it confused with the RS6??? because that is the only audi that is competiton for the M5........

Lol, Typo typo, I meant A6 is better than 5 series of course...

RS6 beats M5 though ;)

"RS6 beats M5 though "
not always true, i've owned an E39 M5 and currently do own an Rs6 Avant and even though the audi is apparently the faster car the M5 was definetly quicker from about 80mph upwards, it also handled a lot better and was more rewarding to drive. for comfort levels and long tern motorway cruises the Rs6 is better.

Oh, well if your dad has driven them...

Both the old and new 5-series soundly whip the A6's tail. Trust me - for the sake of my position in this thread, I'd like to say the A6 is better, but it simply isn't. The 5-series is a class leader (except for the 545, which gets tossed by the M45 - yum, Infiniti!).

why would we believe you over him?

Why has this turned into the third degree? :odd: You introduce your dad in the thread and then in the same post demand to know why I'm more trustworthy than he is. Compare the cars yourself.

RS6 beats M5 though

If there RS6 were a lot better than it is it would!

hmm, I'm a member at RS6.com forum and there have been quite some video's about that comparison(rs6-m5). RS6 simply is faster.

and remember... the RS6 is 8seconds faster than the current M5 around the nurburgring... that's gotta say somthing.

but hey, you've got one... be proud of it:) ... and what those M5 guys don't have is an estate!... and when the raindrops start to fall or the winter comes along.... that's when Quattro means bussiness;) !

Erm, well, I'd love to compare the cars, but I can't. Simple reason would be I don't have a driver's license.

The obvious reason for me starting to compare the credibility of the sources instead of the two cars is a consequence of me not being able to compare the cars myself. I'd love to test them both, give'm a good spin, but I can't, so I can only compare the sources I got the data from. And while he is my dad I don't want to be too subjective when it comes to comparing sources so I referred to him as 'he' later on. And then I summed up reasons why I think my dad is more credible than you.

You didn't answer my question btw :)

But I guess it's strongly opinion-linked...

<Z>

you can compare the cars on paper all you want. you wont get anywhere until you drive them both. and i believe that is when you will see bmw is superior.

my mom has an audi. i have a bmw.

I realise that, so then be quiet and let people with drivers' licences make driving experience comparisons. Believe your dad, I don't care - the BMW is simply the better driver's car, and a better purchase prospect. I'm not trying to convince everybody, especially because it's so obvious.

And then I summed up reasons why I think my dad is more credible than you.

No you didn't. You've no idea how many miles I drive, where I drive them, etc. You simply summed up reasons why he's credible. The truth is I don't care - believe what you wish. Not my problem.

You didn't answer my question btw

Check around these forums - I think you'll find I never make comparisons based on facts. It's always emotional knee-jerk reactions.

and i believe that is when you will see bmw is superior.

Agreed - same goes for the RS6. Yes it looks better on paper, but even with its price about $25000 more than an M5, it doesn't have the better drive. It's why I hate it when 12-year-olds make comments about how much they love the Saleen S7, when you know their opinions of that car are only derived from magazine pictures.

Bah. Only if you're reading a spec sheet. The difference is in the driver's seat.

I wish I were kidding, since it seems like such a faux pas, but I've made every single comparison you can make. On paper, the M45 takes every category easily, and for driving experience it's not far off. The 545 is the better car, but not better enough to justify its price, which is $15,300 (!!) more than an M45.

Bah. Only if you're reading a spec sheet. The difference is in the driver's seat.

But again, most drivers aren't driving purists who drive for pleasure, so why pay more for the BMW?

What's the deal with purists in quotes? Is this a sideways knock?

No, I'm just tired of everybody taking such offence when I say a 'non-drivers' car' is better than a supposed 'drivers' car'. Most people don't care about driving experience nearly as much as they care about price, style, size, reliability, etc.

I didn't know that. How come?

Audi wanted the car to be hugely limited, so they sent all 500 on the same boat and distributed them to the people who pre-ordered them last winter. They probably could've made another few thousand sales, but the point was exclusivity, not profit.

Because comparing SUVs is meaningless to me. I don't really care.

Right, I forgot - you only do the comparisons that affect you. :p
