I've got a wheel with hand paddles on the side and I'm starting to notice the difference a few aspects of driving then if I had one with foot pedals and a gear shift using manual transmission.

1. Times are going to be better with an MT because you can use the gears to maintain RPMs during a turn.

2. Coming out of a turn I'm sure you can get faster acceleration.

3. Can also use it to help slow the vehicle. Using AT transmission you have to rely 100% on your brakes which also increases tire wear. During a long race with pitting you're at a disadvantage due to the increased tire wear. You'll have to pit sooner.

Any thoughts? You can select two choices in the poll

Hmmm. Modern automatics shift faster than any human can, IRL. In the game, the MT has advantages of holding a gear thru an RPM band. Try to do the slalom challenges with an AT! Yikes.

Doesn't the AT downshifting use engine braking for stopping power?

Modern dual-clutch SMG Transmissions can shift faster than any conventional (torque converter) automatic can.

Hence why they let us buy the racing tranny clutch. Good point!

I just use manual transmission because it's more fun. Without it, the driving feels empty on my opinion.

the SLR is supposed to be auto, right? cars that are auto only stock should be the same ingame, along w/ abs etc... real driving simulator... sure...

i only use auto, it's easier, don't have to worry about it, and it makes me feel happy to not have to press extra buttons

From what I read on here the Mustang is auto only in the game just like IRL.

Edit: Manual only

It's a handicap, but I love using the H-shifter so much on my G25 that I've re-purposed the paddles on it for E-brake and rear view. Who cares about being in first place?! :dopey:

I use 99% AT

I want to do MT as I can and enjoy it in real life, however, my DFGT doesn't really provide the feel of real shifting.

The paddles are ok, but nothing spectacular

I have a ds3 and I just started using manual transmission. My lap times are 3-4 seconds faster and the game is a lot more enjoyable with the extra challenge. Never going back to automatic now. :)

Hats off to you! Something I wouldn't even try.

Auto FTW!
But sometimes I wish there was Racing CVT because I want cars to have 100% of power all the time.

I always thought auto was for 6years old kid that can't synchronize properly...
Even with a controller if you can't handle manual you should just switch to Mario kart.

I use auto for any short races where I can't be bothered/ don't have enough time to get into a rhythm.

If the race is more than 5 laps I'll use manual because it's so much more fun and adds to the immersion factor. Plus I feel it allows for more control over the car.

I always use manual. Doesn't matter if it's my DS3 or wheel.

Automatic just feels so empty.

I wonder how many people on here that use Auto complain about the game not being realistic enough..

Haha I would love to see that statistic.

I started out with Auto and gradually changed to manual. Then I drove the Peugoet 908 HDI FAP with manual and WOW, the game changed for me. I can't drive with auto now, it's too boring :yuck:

I use a DS3 btw

I don' think there are many. My guess is most who use auto use a DS3. Remember not everyone has $150-$500 to drop on a full-fledged wheel. My "paddle" wheel was cheap at $50, but it's also been discontinued.

It's not that big of a handicap. I always use the h-shifter but rarely do I feel at a disadvantage (as long as I don't miss any gears)

You dont need a wheel to use manual, X and Square are ideal for changing gears
