I've never used them sice the 1st day i got it (auto trans) they just weren't that good to me. Just wondering if anybody acutally uses it on a regular bases?

I use both. It depends on how I feel. If Im not feeling very good or If I have a headache I use auto. Or if its going to be a very long race (like the 2 hour enduro's).

Some of the fastest online competitors around use auto trans, so don't let anyone tell you it's a lot slower.

That being said, I drive manual - always have and always will. I'd rather have the extra control over the car, and not have to second guess what it's planning to do.

I use auto most of the time. I run pretty fast. I ain't the fastest by any means, but I run pretty quickly.
I have learned how to use partial throttle, and trail braking which makes a lot of difference.

I went from Auto to Manual way back in GT1 and haven't touched Auto since. I'm sure in certain cases auto would be faster since the computer will always shift at the optimal point, but manual is... it's just the right thing to do.

Same thing with TCS and ASM.

The first time I played GT3 was at a friend's place. I ended up hating the game, and went away thinking they did absolutely nothing with the "understeer only" physics of GT1 & 2. I was very very very disappointed. :irked: It was a while later before I learned of TCS and ASM and even longer before I figured out how to turn that **** off. Glad I figured it out before buying my own copy, else it would've been thrown out the window.

So I've never used TCS and ASM. It's just not right having the computer holding your hand through a turn. Computer shifting the car is one thing (my rl car is auto....) but TCS and ASM is going too far.... :irked:

a little OT.... oops.

In GT2 you have to BUY TCS and ASM and it's none too cheap at 50K a pop. On GT3 I have that particular option turned off in the options menu. I haven't used it since I figured out how to turn it off.
In fact if you run with and without it you will find your times to be faster without it in most cases.

Not really. I use them in my FF's. Plus I use Auto alot. Came pretty close to coming in second place in the GT3:SCC. I used auto most of the time. Actually had some of my fastest times in auto...

I use Manual now, but never have used it in the F1 for pure stress reasons! ;)

TCS and ASM are worthless hands down...
Well TCS isn't worthless, since corner exit oversteer in a powerful FR can be a real b!tch... but nevertheless, trying to handle the excess power, (or lack of grip, or both) and trying to drive cleanly is the whole fun of playing GT3 imo.

So yeah, despite that, TCS still sucks and I'll never use it.... :p

does Palm's last post have anything to do with the topic of this thread? I didn't think so. Well, it kinda sux that Palm enjoys arguing with people and ruining the thread. Oh well.

No offense, but RR, you did start this by saying that he wasn't good at manual. I wasn't that good until a few days of practice, and i only made my switch because my friend told me it was better, and it was. Although if someone prefers to drive an automatic i have nothing against it.

And look what your doing.

Anyway back on topic. I think auto is great, you just need to tune the gears right for it. I am faster with Manual most of the time. www.games.norcalit.com/gt3/scc/ Here is the season I did, some with auto. Rome I didnt have alot of time to practice. Plus the season is very hard because you have to worry about going to fast (RR wont need to worry about that) or going to slow since the times are based on an average of all the times. Really fun. The Spring Madness is coming up, cant wait.

i agree. we shouldn't have a dispute about it because some people don't know how to shift like i did when i started *realizing im dissing myself* but people learn different ways :)

Yep, that's true Thio :)

FP, so i'm guessing you have a gameshark/Xport?

Where do you change from auto to manual? By the way, I run auto because since I just got the game for christmas I dont want the hassle being new... but I think I'll try it today... if ya'll tell me how to switch auto to manual. I thought you had to decide when you bought the car... guess I'm wrong.

Well.... its actually easy..?
manual you actually DO have more control over your car, but then again, some people just find it "hard" to press a button when the engine starts to rev like crazy :p

Drifting with manual isn't that hard... treat it like an auto tranny first, then slowly try to drift with manual, its trial and error after that.
least for me.... ><
