I can't seem to get my avatar to show up, I've resized it down to 120x120 (from 250x250 like the upload window says), and it still doesn't show... what gives?

Also what is the actual maximum size?

For non-premo members like yourself it's 100x100 or 20Kb (file size) whichever comes first.

EDIT: And your only a new member so you can't have custom avatars yet.

Says so right above the Save Changes button, right there on the screen, under the field for browsing from your PC for the picture.

I just found the thread... 100 posts to have an avatar... ???

Seems a bit excessive.

Well I think it is to ease storage load so you don't get loads of new members uploading new avatars then quitting after a few posts and never returning. It's a waste of space really.

I can sort of see that point but with a 1TB HDD costing less than $50, granted consumer grade and not server grade, storage is cheap.

It'd be nice to have a little if you've been a member for X amount of months...

I lurked here long before I posted, and having to post spam for an avatar is a bit much :x

It's not about post whoring, it's about being an active contributing member. Perks for usefulness, if you want.

It actually went down, though; used to be 40k, I think. When I changed my avatar for Christmas it wouldn't let me change back. Like my "large" file wasn't kicked off, but I couldn't reuse it later.

Well this forum has something for just about everyone. I got nearly 1000 posts before my first 90 days were up and I don't think any were spam. If all you want is a quick avatar just look around abit more.

You could always go to the signup screen and find out what the advantages are....

Or you could keep relying on others to do everything for you.

Bigger Avatars

Make your posts stand out even more with a larger avatar size! Premium members can use images as large as 120x120 pixels, and can consume 25 KB in space. It's a great way to show off your artistic and creative personality in your posts!

I'm pretty sure it also allows you to use your own image right away since you're a contributing member and don't plan on ditching anytime soon.

Starting about halfway down the page:

That would be the section with the heading Bigger Avatars, which comes after 100 posts per page, which comes after 2,000 private message, which comes after red, bold username, which comes after no ads.

Right, I read that... now please tell me how that answers my question?

In case you forgot, my questions was:

If I become a premium member does the silly restriction go away?

I didn't ask about bigger avatars... And I'm trying to verify that the restriction goes away if I become a premium member. Again, the thing you pasted (which I had already read twice) did not answer the question.

You can use custom avatars immediately once you become Premium...

Furthermore, you can keep your 120x120 pixel avatar once your Premium subscription expires, although you will only be able to replace it with a standard sized avatar unless you renewed your Premium.

What restriction are we talking about, then? I though you asked about the size. Going back to Post#1, you were complaining about reducing it and it didn't show.

If you're asking about custom avatars after number of posts, then I misunderstood. Premium gets an avatar immediately.

Tree'd by TM.

I assume you somehow missed the sticky Read This! thread right at the top of this forum that says:

Custom Avatar & Title Requirements
As long as it is appropriate, you can use any image you want for your avatar. However, you must have at least 100 posts.

Keep in mind that your avatar can be no larger than 20 KB in size or 100x100 pixels in dimension!

Exactly. Fail, indeed.

I think you fail at reading... 🤬

Um, the guy that runs this list is not the guy to be calling names.

Suggest you rethink attitude quickly.

Not the smartest thing I've ever seen...

Also, might be time to edit the swear filter, me thinks.

Not the smartest thing I've read in here either, you may be walking on thin ice, tread lightly.

Really no biggy, just a double standard is all. Its fine for you to criticize me however I'm not allowed to return the favor... Guess I wont be becoming a premium member anytime soon.

Nobody called you names on a public forum. No double standard.

There's a difference, and personal conflicts against members are specifically prohibited in the AUP.

Well if you read the thread again, the whole situation was done with, I had the answer I needed and even talked about joining as premium (which I was doing today), then this morning there is a new reply after the fact that, although it didn't use tradition insult words, was an insult.

Apparently responding to an insult is against the terms... unless of corse you are an administrator on a power trip.

Good times... I think I'll keep my $50. Thx.
