And you will have to wait because that corner isn't coming up very fast, even with a heaps of revs on the gauge...

. Going fast in a straight line usually isn't as much fun as going fast around a corner though.

Put a hardtop on, tune the engine, put some monster body kits and wheels, and you get one ferocious street car. :D

Wheels, suspension and maybe some engine mods and then it would be an awesome track car. The car doesn't need a lot to be fast. It's designed to handle well, so it doesn't necessarily need to be fast in a straight line. That and when you start slapping stuff on the car, you are going to need to beef up the powertrain which will only add weight and take away the lightness that makes it so fun in corners.

Azure if you like keeping things clean and detailed like me your going to love this:

You dont need a body kit on a Miata. People call it a womens car but most people are ignorant when it comes to the real mechanics, physics, and function. There many fast and furious fans on this site that only think about driving in a straight line, or having rediculous amounts of horse power. Power to weight ratio never comes to the mind these experienced seasoned drivers (sarcasm). It being a girl car is someones irrelevant opinion. But it being one of the best handling, street legal road racing cars ever made is a fact. The MRS is the new best thing in my opinion. The mid-engine platform and almost 50-50 balance for under $15k is more than I can ask for. If you dont like these cars your truly not an enthusiast, and I really dont know why you would be in this thread.

You're incorrect about one of your generalizations. Not all of us that think its a girls car are clueless on how to drive or how to drive quickly whether its straight or around a corner or clueless about physics/mechanics. I would take as insult if I thought your comment wasn't so rediculous. So before you group everyone all into that catagory just take a minute and lighten up. Its still a girls car regardless of what you do to it, girls buy/drive these more than men FROM MY OWN OBSERVATIONS. This doesn't mean it isn't a fun car to drive for those of you who can fit comfortably inside. The MX5 is NOT designed for the AVERAGE man to fit in--not designed on purpose that way but to say that it is designed with a small cabin. I don't fit and I'm not a FAT or TALL person by American standards (I'm German anyway) (6ft 207lbs). I sat in one 2 weeks ago when considering cheap used cars for a daily driver--*edit*And this is AFTER I lost 3 belt sizes. I STILL can't fit in one comfortably. The MR2 is the guy's car, anybody can fit in it, its a whole bunch more comfy, it handles just as good as the MX5 (or better in my opinion for my preference), and its probably more reliable than the Mazda--or at least equal to. This is not to say girls don't drive them--but the majority of MR2's I've ever seen are driven by guys.

The same goes for V6 Mustangs, V6 Camaro/Firebirds, Celicas, and VW Beetles. They are predominantly driven/owned by women--so they are deemed a girls car by society. Its just a fact. Do I laugh at a guy driving one? No. Would I own one? Probably not. Referring to the MX5 not the aformentioned list.

I see nothing factual in your comment. Is this supposed to register relevant to me? You dont seem to be a true enthusiast which makes my point even more credible.
Need I remind you that the Miata originates from Japan. The Japanese average height/size is considerably less than an average American. Lol.., I find it typical for an American to say "its a girls car" because they cant fit in it or the engines is not big enough (point proven again). You are the incorrect one by the way. It is designed to fit the average man.., The average Asian man that is. Your weight problem seems to be a personal issue. Neither the Miata or MR2 are flawed, you are 👍

And so when people question our sexuality and continually refer to the MX5 as a "girls car" that isn't an insult at all? I guess I'm not sure how you're negating that as well...

Fact of the matter is, they're both excellent cars. PERIOD. They both have appealed more to women (in general) than most other sports cars. PERIOD. Dislike either one for whatever reason, thats fine, but they're both damn-good "girlie" cars... I'd just rather have the popper layout in the MX5.

Is it the fit of the car that makes it a girly car? I always though it was the folding roof (seeing that girls tend to like convertibles more than guys), economy and a more or less "cute" exterior.

As for the fit of the car I quite like it. I am quite tall at 6'4" and always love sitting in the MX-5 because it's tight enough that it feels like I'm wearing the car but not so tight that I'm cramped. But then again, I haven't tried it on a long journey. It's no bigger than an MR-2 either.

I don't have a weight problem, and I take that as a personal insult so sod off. I can debate YSS and everyone else with no problem, but you take it too far by insulting me personally--THAT shows your lack of decency. You DO NOT know me personally so you CAN NOT JUDGE me as a non-enthusiast. Wow, I would of never guessed that the MX5 was Japanese. And lastly, I'm not American and you insinuated that I was--again sod off. Its people like you that I hate...and yes I said hate and not dislike.

And so when people question our sexuality and continually refer to the MX5 as a "girls car" that isn't an insult at all? I guess I'm not sure how you're negating that as well...

For starters if you can't take a joke about not having testicles for driving a girls car then you are more uptite than I realized. This is why I'm hating this PC culture--no one can take a freaking joke. Fine, no sarcasm or humor directed to you anymore.

They are both excellent cars yes, I was mearly pointing out WHY I called it a girls car in my opinion. And again, I've stated on several occasions that its a reliable car that can be fun. But I feel it isn't fast enough for ME to enjoy on an everyday basis. Because what the idiot above won't get is everyone doesn't autocross to and from work--so what some people...err MOST people enjoy on the daily grind is infact accleration along with handling. Everyday driving enjoyment is an almost equal part between acceleration and cornering. Don't bug out on me, if you can't take a joke then you really don't need to get a Miata because the sarcasm and jokes will never end from your peers and people in general. And this is regardless of just your friends "messing with you" or someone being derogatory. If you can't take a joke in text on a computer screen then you won't be able to take it in person. I'm not condoning derogatory behavior--I'm just letting you know what you already must know.

Ok people lighten up!

Wow im was really moved by that comment JCE (sarcasm). Anyways Philly how was your head room in the MX5 with the top up? It gets pretty cold in the winter nights of AZ.

JCE its not about freaking out, I just get rather tired even when enthusiasts who should otherwise note and respect the car retract back into that mindset. You're certainly welcome to have your own opinion, as I know at one time that I did share it, however, upon driving a late-model NA, it changed my opinion of the car completely.

No worries mate, I don't like having this conversation any more than you do!

It's a damn nice car to drive, and I'd own one. I think it was just a little friendly chiding on his part. Only people completely insecure with their sexuality couldn't respect the MX-5 as a true, pure drivers car in the uppermost echelon of driver-cardom. So hopefully everyone here is mature enough to be mature enough to appreciate the car.

Uhh.., No I havent bro, you got me confused. Ive been a member since 06 kid. Dont state what you dont know. It may get you in trouble. And it seems all your attentions been focused on me for the last few hours, do you not have anything else to do.

Update if the suck type: Rod-knock. So I get to visit the mechanic soon and pay out the ass probably. It was low on oil, I was an idiot for not checking it often buying the car, and the idiot light didn't bother turning on at all. Go figure.

On the Miata and MR-S talks - the Miata is just as respectable as the MR-S. They both put down similar figures, though the MR-S was a slight bit faster all around. It lost in the storing things department though. Similar prices as well, and a similar style of small drop top car. I've seen a Miata kick ass often enough and driven one to know its a true driver's car. Going with the Spyder was entirely me loving MR layouts and Toyota; Miata would be right up there with it in my book.

You seem very similar to a previous member. I don't know why.

Also, maybe you should practice what you preach? You've been a member since January 07; myself since August '06.

Also, you seem to go to a school related to automobiles... Wouldn't you have realized the benefits/detractions of an LS2 more easily than the rest of us?

EDIT: Cody, I read your post and I winced. hopefully it'll be the last maintenance you'll have to do for a long time.

Um January 07 can be like one day away from 06.
Your really embarassing yourself with this off topic
Bickering broe, your totally a champ.

Azure: sorry for the off topic, your still the man!
Nice Audi in the back ground by the way.

Not my Audi, previous owners :p I drive a beat to death 99 Corolla with dents galore.

I'll hopefully be able to get a quote tomorrow and have work started this week. What sucks is there goes my TRD aero kit and possibly some nicer rims for this year. The plus side is I can "afford" to fix it. The down side is going to be waiting to get it fixed. Considering I haven't even had the car for a week. I'll hopefully have it back together, running, and broken in before the next event.

Um, January '07 can be like, one day away from '06.

Yes, because the middle of January is 1 day. :irked:
I think that you, my good man, are the one embarrassing yourself.

Complete with an appeal of friendship to the creator of the thread. 👍

It's not his Audi BTW. Those are pictures of when it was in the dealers possession. The snowy pictures are his.

EDIT: Tree'd. D:

Dude.....just......stop.

You aren't making yourself look any better either, in fact I'd say you've embarrased yourself a lot more. In 3 threads off the top of my head, you've attempted to end an argument with statements very similar to this.

Maybe this doesn't apply as much to this thread, but in my eyes the person who looks more stupid is the one who resorts to crap like this instead of actually providing some real information or intelligent replies when confronted.

For example, you haven't been a member since 06. It doesn't matter how close to 06 it was, but you weren't.

Admit that you can be wrong sometimes. It happens.

Ok im totally wrong guy ok. Anyways. LMAO@ dent galore. If your aiming for autox events im thinking wheels, tires, and coil overs pay for it self over and over again. If I had it id probably would be happy with the factory layout for a few events lol.

Just like the other thread.

The obvious sarcasm doesn't help. You're being blinding by ignorance, you still think you're 100% correct.

It's annoying frankly.

Ding Ding Ding. 👍

You dodged a bullet to the forehead, but you took it in the eye, Soprano. Truth is, you're not better than myself, or anyone else for that matter, and neither am I. So stop acting like you've got a brain the size of Menlo Park, and post in a way that doesn't want to make me break my thumbs.

Im not being sarcastic. I dont know what you want me to do. Im not understanding how this is bothering you so much. Im talking to a single person on a particular subject here why so much commotion. Ive been the center of attention for like 10 hours straight now. It seems like im Brittney Spears or running for president. Ive only responded to those who comment on me and you act like I killed a puppy or something. Not that im bothered with what someone says over the internet, I mean im a fully grown man but if ive heart someones feelings let me know.

If you got a problem with me PM me.

It's more the attitude you have more than anything, like you cannot stand the thought of being wrong. You come into any thread and act like everyone is a complete idiot. When they provide you with facts supporting their views (which are usually somewhere in the thread already), you ignore them or say they aren't relevant, digging yourself into a deeper hole, and once you can't go any further, you come back with a "stop embarrassing yourself bro, you're a champ" and then change the subject.

I don't have a problem with you, just don't call people out unless you can provide facts to back up your statements, otherwise you come out looking like a complete tool.

I'm sorry for ruining your thread Azuremen, I'll stop now, including the other threads too.

If you are a grown man, I expect you to act like one. Do you think it's a coincidence every thread you enter ends in comotion? You poke fun at everyone around you, and then act like it's their fault when they're bothered by it. You are treading on very thin ice, as it is. Keep it up and see what happens. You have been warned before, and you will be docked points now. If you actually enjoy posting on this forum, I suggest you cool your jets.

;)

This is an interesting discussion (the MX-5 vs. MR-S one).

As far as the girly car thing is concerned, I couldn't care less what other people thought of me or my car, so that throws that portion of the discussion out of the window. I don't have any experience of being around the Toyota, as they didn't market it here at all. The Miata was originally a total clone of the Elan ethos, so I've always appreciated that aspect of the Mazda. It's not hard at all to make a Mazda competitive outside of the factory setup, not to mention it being a sweet performer as it is. You can't forget the SCCA support you have either; Spec Miata is one of the most popular racing groups in the USA, and many people use SM times as a basis for driver comparison. It's good to be lumped into a larger group where you have the support of a such a strong motorsport following.

And if you're really so tied up about what others think of your car, it takes nothing more than some new wheels and a half cage behind the seats to make your Miater look certifiably badass.

I think his avatar describes his attitude pretty accurately.

edit:
This is an interesting discussion (the MX-5 vs. MR-S one).

I think it's pretty cool that there still is someone out there making a lightweight, low-powered RWD car. It's too bad that Toyota wrapped the MR-S up.

Yea, exactly they way I feel about it. The point is: Looks never won a race.

If you want to bring branding into it, I would say Mazda wins hands down. The Mazda will have that more sporty image because of the rest of the cars it makes and I would say has one of the best brand images in the business IMO. And then there is Toyota whose brand image is as good as gone.

I'd much rather have a 2 seat, RWD convertible 3 than an MR Camry.

Yea I can understand why you feel that way. Both brands have hella credability though. Toyota being uber rich and Mazdas essential involvement in motorsports, they maybe pushing each other to do better lol. If your product has no competition, theres really no reason to upgrade.

Philly... guh, I don't know where to start on what you just posted. Refer to my avatar.

Toyota's recent image is lacking. There old one is quite good. To me, Mazda doesn't seem that sporting. Yes, they have more sportier models available, but they still make, mostly, family cars.

MR Camry though? You mean Corolla? With a chassis that is on par with an equivalent Miata (I've driven both sideways, they are very composed cars) and more of a Lotus ethos than the Miata. 2200 pounds versus 2400 pounds. Looking at raw numbers, Toyota one against the 2000 Miata, and driving feel is superb as well. The steering is weighted and you feel the road through it, unlike in the Corolla. I deliver pizza in a Corolla, so I can compare the two readily - the Spyder is no MR Corolla.

Maybe I should get involved in the Pizza delivery industry, because I cant get an MRS with my current 9-5 LOL! j/k
