That was cool. There's nothing like those 4 radial engines in the big bomber, but there's no mistaking that P-51 sound, either! That thing is sexy!

But why the smack can't CNN, one of the largest TV production companies in the Universe, get the damn aspect ratio correct on their web videos?!!??!? If it was shot in 16:9, then show it in 16:9. If it was shot in 4:3, then damn it, show it in 4:3.

I remember a few summers ago in Michigan I saw an old WWII bomber fly overhead. It was so slow and loud. It was really awkward seeing it just lingering there overhead compared to contemporary crafts while still making so much noise. Definitely a cool thing to witness, especially considering I don't like anything war-related or aircraft in general.

we get what looks like mitchels (b-25's) flying over all the time. other than a couple biplanes (Stearman kadets, I think) we don't get much else otherwise.

wfooshee: i think you know that anyone over a certian age thinks half the pic is missing in a 16:9. full screen is the only thing a lot of people know.

We had what appeared to be a B17 or a B29 fly over my school last year about this time and I'm still in awe of the beauty and sound of that machine as it flew overhead. I can't imagine how AWESOME it would have been to see groups of those flying overhead during the war, and how much fear it would have struck into the enemy having them come in on a routine basis.

Compared to the B2 and B1 (which I've seen several times), these "vintage" aircraft just have so much more soul to them.

Agreed. The only props we see now in Toronto are modern Bombardiers and de Havillands.

Actually, for a while, it looked as if we had either B-25 Mitchells or Avro Shackletons flying over. They just looked so intimidating, even if they were lumbering on and not speeding. They were loud, but it was definitely more pleasing than the volume of today's jets.

A CF-18 going supersonic passed my school once, when several RCAF fighters were scrambled to intercept two Tu-95 Bear bombers operating off the coast of Newfoundland.

I've seen F-16's or 22's fly over our house, one of them had a failing engine, it sounded awesome though. I've also seen Black Hawk Helicopters, and a Chinook(Looked like a rescue one) fly over aswell.

It's always cool to see an older airplane or a really odd one flying. I Lived close to Johnson County Executive Airport in Overland Park, KS from 1998-2006. There was a Beechcraft Starship that was based out of that airport. It was one cool aircraft. It was really loud, too. Our neighborhood was right underneath the approach for the runway. The Starship would take off (or land, depending on the wind) on that runway and things in our house would shake. Granted, all the twin-turboprop planes they had were loud, but the Starship was something else.

I don't think they're flying anymore. Is that correct?

A few weeks ago, the Fargo Air Museum had their A6M5 Zero out. I was walking to my dorm hall, and heard an engine note that was much deeper than the average Cessna that left Hector International. I found the noise coming from a white colored plane with a black cowl. A huge red rising sun was on the side, and that plane was hauling.
