McGill Racing Far Out Front After Hockenheim Practice
ZZpHAZp.jpg

DB5Zd9P.png
McGill Racing's Valterri Bottas was by far the class of the field in Hockenheim practice, finishing with a lap 1.5 seconds clear of the competition. Team Pezzarinho was again second, but right there in 3rd was Amber Sebringson. Tsukuyomi Racing Project appears to really have a strong package for Hockenheim, but its just practice. Surely the other teams will improve and the order will no doubt change.

As feared the Hondas seem to be struggling with the quickest of the group Sebastien Ogier only able to finish the session 9th. Jordan Taylor was 11th and last week's Monaco Winner Takuma Sato was 13th. TRB Motorsport is establishing themselves as the premier Ford team.

Daniel Ricciardo no doubt used the Mercedes engine to power his way into 4th place, his best session result of the season. All three Mercedes powered cars finished in the top 7. After finishing a surprise 5th in Monaco Daniel Suarez again struggled finishing almost 6 seconds off the pace.

McGill Racing on Pole but the Field Closes the Gap

Valterri Bottas claimed pole position for the German Grand Prix after something of an awkward qualifying session. Yellow flags (random PC freezes due to Windows installing updates in the background) cost some cars time, most notably Alonso's slow sector 2 time on his fastest lap. Timing showed he had completed sector 2 on the previous lap over a second faster but on his fastest lap he was caught out by yellow flags. Alonso wasnt the only driver affected, but most teams managed to get in a good lap.

Takuma Sato initially qualified 6th but was dropped to 11th as a result of the 5 grid spot penalty. Jordan Taylor claimed the spot as fastest Honda driver, qualifying 4th. STARtec DEVELOPMENTS continued to struggle in Germany and finished qualifying decidedly mid-pack.

The great surprise was Sara Hockenheim going all out to qualify 2nd in her home Grand Prix. Allstar Racing has been the bridesmaid so many times, can the team finally get it done in Germany?

With teams making big games from practice to qualifying its sure to make the results of the race one of the least predictable of the season.

German Grand Prix Results

McGill Racing Wins Again In Germany

The German Grand Prix got off to a rough start as a number of cars went off in the first corner then came back on track and collected others (1:45 in the video). It wasnt clear if there was oil on the track or not, but 2nd place Sara Hockenheim, 3rd place Fernando Alonso and 4th place Jordan Taylor all followed eachother off course in the first first corner. When they rejoined chaos ensued.

Sebastien Loeb was collected and lost his front wing, as did Sebastien Buemi. Jordan Taylor got spun around and ended up stuck against a barrier for some time before finally finding reverse and escaping the predicament. Sara Hockenheim was tagged from behind and lost her rear wing. But somehow Fernando Alonso managed to escape the fracas losing nothing more then track position.

The first lap disturbance changed the running order dramatically with Amber Sebringson running as high as second.

As the race progressed Bottas set sail up front while Alonso quickly picked off those ahead of him in a very methodical manner. Amber Sebringson eventually dropped down the running order to finish 6th, earning her team it's first point of the season.

Takuma Sato battled from 11th starting position after his Monaco grid penalty to run as high as 3rd. However a hard charging Sara Hockenheim who had to recover from an early unscheduled pitstop to fix a rear wing had caught him with just over a lap to go. They battled wheel to wheel (1:20.20 in the video) even through a tight chicane - nothing separated them. But Hockenheim was braver with the brakes entering the stadium section and went on to claim 3rd position.

3 laps from the end Katherine Legge's Gearbox gave out and on the cooldown lap after the race Sebastien Loeb's car was unable to make it back to the pits as it rolled to a stop in the Ayrton Senna curve.

A great result for us this weekend which was just what we needed to keep chasing down Team Pezzarinho Alonso in the points. We now need to keep up this pace and win the next few races. Yes it can be said we benefited from the carnage at turn one, but you have to capitalise on mistakes and make the most of the situation.

Team Pezzarinho Germany Press Statements

Perry Brown:
"When you consider we were down in 11th after the dust settled on turn 1, 2nd today is a great result. The way that Alonso rolled up his sleeves and set about recovering positions was extremely professional and a joy to watch from the garage. Looking back further though, we have to investigate why we lost over a second in qualifying to our rivals which cost us pole position. I think that was the difference today as there was little to choose between Alonso's pace and Bottas'. We have to move on now and hope that these kind of errors fall in our rivals hands rather than our own."

Fernando Alonso:
"The start was good but there was no room. Then when I turned the wheel nothing happened and the front moved forward. I am sorry to those behind. After this it was a fun first stint racing against our competitors but Valterri was gone."

Tsuchigami no Kyojin x RHGP Press Statements
after German Grand Prix

Haruna Tsuchigami, team principal:
"Despite being hit with a grid penalty, Takuma-kun made an excellent recovery throughout the race! I can only imagine we might have done even better had we not been penalized. But I feel awful for Sara Hockenheim. She may as well have been named after this track and yet she fell short even here. I even went to go comfort Sara-chan after the race..."

Stefano di Fiorano, head of Engineering:
"I'm not particularly happy with our result, even when I consider our weaknesses relative to our rivals. We didn't earn a clean win at Monaco so we're still banking on Suzuka or Spa to give us hope for a properly won race, since our chances for a championship win are nil now. I want the team to defeat Team Pezzarinho on merit and ability, not by punting our way through the field."

Takuma Sato, driver of TnK x RHGP:
"That was pretty fun; I haven't driven this track at these speeds for a while! 320+ km/h speeds are quite normal for Indy Cars, but it's a different feeling on a circuit."

Return to Turbo Powered Engines for Future FBS Season

FBS will use turbo engines for the first time since season 1 in a future season.

"We had the chance to sample the car and engines at the Orchard Lake Roval and we were very happy with the sound. Its very different from the way the cars sound now. The new engines rev several thousand RPM lower but they have alot more 'bite' to them. It's cool.

There was also a big bump in top speed. They have more power, maybe 20, 30kph higher top speeds then today's cars.

Advanced engineering will be a big part of any future MTP events. We've noticed that setup customization plays too big of a part in who is successful and who is not. Setups will always be a part of the challenge, but as it stands they're a too big of a percentage of the challenge. Ideally setups will be 50% of the car's speed, and Advanced Engineering the other 50%. But like setups if you get advanced engineering wrong the results can be very detrimental to the pace of your team's cars.

But something had to be done to freshen things up, the same 2 guys have won 2/3 of all FBS events. They've earned those wins of course but the formula needs to keep changing to keep them on their toes so they cant just rely on what they learned in the past too much."

According to a source that was in the paddock before practice on Thursday, the crew from Okuma Motorsports showed up late to practice after getting stuck in traffic that had backed up for miles. The traffic was caused by a tractor trailer full of beer tipping over on the road, which resulted in the beer spilling everywhere. The crew disclosed if they had gotten out of the team cars to pick some up off of the road.

EDIT: A source has come forward and announced that the beer truck was actually headed to Allstar Racing's pit garage.

Allstar Racing Devastated as Beer Truck tips over!
It was a sad day for the Allstar Racing crew, as the beer truck bound for the team's Silverstone garage failed to make it to the track after a catastrophic traffic accident. The beer was meant to console the team after getting screwed by race control at Hockenheim, but it seems the long faces will be here for a while longer. Team principal Jim Mills spoke to BBC news:
"It's devastating, I'm trying not to break into tears. Sara got robbed of a chance to win by a terrible call from race control to not restart the race after leaving fluids on track in turn 1. She's so cute! How could they do that to her?! And now this! What did we do to deserve this punishment?! I... I just don't know, man. *Wipes a tear from his eye* Screw this I need a hug. I'm out."
Truly a tragic day. Will the team be able to bounce back from this monumental setback? Find out tomorrow when the FBS cars take to the track for qualifying!

Team Pezzarinho Britain Press Statements

Perry Brown:
"Very disappointed to lose our home race this weekend, and all it came down to was 14 thousandths of a second on 1 lap. Everything else we did here worked so it is definitely a case of 4 points lost rather than 6 points gained. We'll just have to take the positives from being fastest all weekend to Belgium."

Fernando Alonso:
"Pole position is really most important as we have seen in the last 2 races. I was gaining, gaining all the time, every lap. We were just never close enough to attack."

Well, time to make an effort..a useless one but whateves.
