are xbox games playable on 360?
it may sound like a stupid question but i wanna know before i waste
$300 on a 360 and not be able to play star wars kotor 1&2

Not all games and they require the HDD. In fact not many games at all are. Core 360 is a money trap.

I give the backward compatibilty a 5/10...... games are upscaled and not in true HD.

...You have to be connected to the Internet before you can do anything. I don't know how you would go about getting the patches offline, but apparently they are working on it. That said, not every game is playable on the 360 from the origional XBOX, but there are also plenty of "surprising" games on that list.

Do what I did: Keep your XBOX and play games that way. I've been playing a lot of my old titles on the old system on and off since I bought my 360, mostly for the saved titles I have on the old system, etc.

Backwards compatability wasn't a deciding factor for me when I bought mine, as a matter of fact I don't think it is a huge deal for very many 360 owners, as many of us have kept our origional systems.

It was a big deal to me, becuase I only had a ps2 and wanted to be able to play the good xbox games I couldn't play without an xbox. I'm happy with it even though I can't play all games I was hoping for.

Yeah that's something that dissapointed me about the XB360, there was a few XB games I was hoping to try but can't because they arn't all backwards compatible. Kind of sucks really for anyone that doesn't already have an XBox.

Does anyone know why only some games are compatible? The PS2 is compatible with every PS1 game and supposedly the PS3 will be the same.

It's software emulated, so when you put a game into the XB360 is has to download software to make that game work, and this is for each and every game. But not all XB gaems have the software for it, a fact I didn't know at first until I bought an XB game that didn't :dunce:.

The PS2 emulates PS1 games through hardware, so it's the actual console doing the emulation not software.

why are there ads on my post?

Because you are not a Premium member of GT Planet, go premium to get rid of the ads.

Also could you please not double post in future, should you need to add a comment and no one has posted you can simply use the 'Edit' button to add to your last post.

Thanks (and welcome to GT Planet)

As mentioned above, if you want BC, you'll need the hard drive. Which pretty much means getting the Premium console.. I'm not even a huge fan of the system, but when I got one (all of yesterday), I got a Premium.

The explanation I recieved was that when you are playing games on an XBOX 360, they are designed to run with the ATI graphics card while it's predecessor ran on a nVidia chip. Apparently the two are not compatable, so "patches" must be downloaded over XBOX Live or burned to a disc and loaded onto the 360 in order for games like Halo 2, et al to be played on the 360.

Yeah, and I doubt MS has the time to make ALL games compatible with it, so they make the more popular ones work rather than wasting time on the older, less popular ones.
