Backwards Compatible PS3 Question

So I have a PS2 game compatible PS3. I'm trying to find out how many were sold, as I have no idea :P

Does anyone know? Thanks.

The original 60 GB and 20 GB were sold for about 5/8 months in America, respectively, (and a year and a half in Japan); and combined sales over the markets they were sold in probably totaled a few million. The U.S. 80GB and PAL 60GB were on sale for about a year after that, so figure another couple. The most exact figure you would be able to get would be to look up to-date sales up to the time Sony introduced the 40GB, because they didn't keep separate figures when they sold the 40GB concurrently so its introduction would be the last hard number you could use.

Okay, here we go. There were officially 3 models of the Playstation three made with built in back up compatibility, the last one being released in August 2007. They are model numbers CECHB01 (20 GB), CECHA01 (60 GB), and CECHE01 (80 GB).(Source).

However, I cannot seem to find production numbers for each of the models.

There were four (since I assume he means total rather than just specific to his region). CECHA (60GB), CECHB (20GB), CECHC (PAL 60GB) and CECHE (4 USB 80GB).

I can give you a base to begin your investigation, but that's it. According to Wikipedia, bad source I know, 81,639 PS3s were sold in the first 24 hours it was available in Japan, and an estimated 600,000 units in the PAL territories and Africa in the first two days. Here in the US, however, Sony severely underestimated demand of the PS3, causing them to fail to meet demand for months. 2nd hand units were going on ebay for $2,000 that is how rare they have become.

Correct. I used to have the 60 GB backwards compatible PS3, but then I took an arrow to the knee it froze up and died. I have to say, I did love the backwards compatibility feature.

The Original Ps3 models (Fat) 20GB- 80GB Can play Ps2/Ps1 (and ps3) games. But the Newer Models (slim) 120-320GB can only play Ps1/Ps3 games.

But sadly my Fat model Ps3 (80 GB) 600$ Disk drive burnt out on me. But later bought playstaion plus.

I still have my launch 60 GB unit working. It YLOD on me, but after weeks and weeks of research, I manned up and fixed it myself. Of course, a DIY fix isn't permanent, so I had to buy a slim and transferred all my data. It's now sitting on its box.

My original launch-date PS3 fried its GPU on me earlier in the year, but I just replaced it with a slightly newer CECHA and sold the old one.

I tried to sell my original 60gig YLOD thinking it had some value because of the full BC but the shop offered $20. It's in my closet now.
