Bad Racing Habits

Ramming full throttle into the back of another car because I was busy watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Yeah, a real racing driver would probably wave his finger at that.

Being impatient entering a corner and smacking the AI in the rear (hate the freakin' WHUMP). I wind up unplugging my subwoofer because it rattles the windows and moves the picture frames on the wall (I love the engine noise loud though).

If any of you have seen Top Gear then you must have seen James May 'race'. I race exactly like him (captain slow). I literally can't race to save my life, I'd like to blame my wheel but the truth is I drive like a moron.
I can't hold a racing line to save my life, I tend to follow the person ahead and bump him/her. I get distracted very easily especially with my new wheel, messing about with setting on the fly. I look back for no reason even if I'm at the rear of the pack, however since finding out that the D pad has directional vision I look left and right get disorientated and veer of the track. I somehow manage to get oversteer with any car, I'm able to slide around with a Civic of all things.
My confidence is really low, if I somehow manage to get the lead I'll lose it by constantly looking behind. If I feel that the person behind me is faster than me I'll slow down to let them pass. Only problem is I move out of their way, which they obviously don't expect so the end result is unintentional blocking >_>
I'd like to use the excuse that I'm a long time (GT1) pad user, but to be honest I've been able to get similar lap times when playing alone with either, sometimes better with wheel.
My wheel does on occasion like to pull to the left.
I think that covers most of it.

 It's okay we've all been there at some point or another.

Answering my GF on the phone during an online race, then finding out I've dropped 10 places:ouch:

<----- Have to refer to my avatar each time:dunce:

I suffer from severe bouts of "look back syndrome" regardless of my position, and in endurance races I am prone to getting bored and driving like a fool to pass the time...

Using "weird" and "unusual" cars in open lounges, which may lead to some people seeing me as a cheater/fake/show off and get rid of me. Maybe it is just a matter of attitude.

I'm checking my back way too often and not bothering to change drift settings to grip race settings.

Just trying to do some Police style takeout maneuvers on random drivers to get an advantage.. It's pretty fun when you're in a car heavier than the ones you're racing with, but it's pretty bad :P

Being demolished by two wheels touching grass :scared:
But mostly power sliding just for fun, cant seem to stop that though :sly:

I focus on the track right in front of the car unless I really concentrate of keeping my focus out where it belongs.

I keep checking the track map to see where the car ahead or behind me is.

I enter corners too fast, even if I hit my braking point perfect I don't slow down enough and push out.

Cutting the last chicane at La Sarthe and using a Honda LIFE STEP VAN at those stupid HONDA BOYZ lounges (this is actually fun).

Has to be that I floor it round corners , 70% of the time it's good, The other times. I loose control and swerve everywhere, Try to recover but spin out :(

ALWAYS oversteering at the end of a corner
Braking too early
Braking too LATE when im in an intense online race
Blocking people inadvertantly ( REALLY sorry :/)

Using the shift indicator (flashing number) as a brake point indicator.

I've been using the Citroen GT Concept Car (electric, and thus no indicator) more often to try and break this habit.

Same here. I wish there was an option to turn off the flashing indicator as I sometimes have no idea which gear I'm in with the speedometer turned off, specially in rolling start races.

I don't mind doing the shorter endurance races in A-spec. But after awhile I get ornery and start wrecking the AI for giggles.

Many have said they look back for no reason and I do this too. Whenever there's a straight (on the ring for instance there are several) I try to tap the left button on my g25 wheel in some sort of rhythm because the noise the engine makes changes slightly when you look back and sometimes this results in me tapping the button like a mad man.

I rarely crash or lose concentration because of this but I've broken the button slightly :ouch:.

I always give abit of arse out action on the exit to every turn just cause its fun and to hell with understeer, Eat my tyre smoke sir :D

I create smoke whenever possible, and use the rear view to enjoy the spectacle. This isn't always productive, especially on Cape Ring South. Not happy with the pit lane here.

When the AI bumps me I tend to go for revenge, using PIT maneuvers and whatnot. The resulting carnage isn't helpful for lap times or tire wear, but the AI clearly needs to learn who is in charge.

Also there's the 360s across the finishing line or flying at an angle across the line on Trial Mountain. Or pushing cars into the pit lane on Eiger.

I think most of my racing habits are bad, tbh.

on the nurburg getting a wheel or one side of the car onto the grass turning to get off it then hitting the tarmac and spinning

While on a long straightway, I usually move the right stick to my left and/or right and looking around the cockpit to visualize the surrounding area. I don't pay much attention to the road ahead and instead am fixated by the speed I'm achieving.

"OH MAN CHECK THIS OUT I'M DOING LIKING 230+ MPH! OH YEAH!"

Before I smash my car into the wall of the next corner or end up slowly veering into the grass/dirt and spinning out in failure trying to correct myself.

I don't do it often, but when I do, 🤬 me. That's what I get for enjoying cockpit view so much. It's just so distractingly awesome.

I've lost count at the number of time I've done this

Ah... i have just had a pretty major one pointed out to me. In a championship ive made hard for myself to just Win, i sometimes start targeting the ai drivers in the lead on points. And ramming them off track. Then protecting the slowest drivers to get them further up the leaderboard... it has lost me countless championships and even more races.
