Well I know I'll get flamed but meh whatever...
I don't like any of the gothic metal, shock rock, whatever you call it. It's not my style of music and I personally see the band memebers as freaks. Doesn't mean they are but image is quite a bit in the world. Yes I am refering to bands like Slipknot and MM (well he isn't a band, I don't know the name of his band).
The reason I dislike the music is because I just can't get into the dark twisted stuff, not my style what so ever.
I also can't stand punk rock and emo, not my style what so ever.
But argueing about opinion is stupid. Some people like certian kinds of music others don't, you can't force someone to like something. Just like me, I like quite a bit of country music but I know many people can't stand it. And before someone asks, my favorite type of music is classic rock.
I totally agree.
I'm one of those guys who doesn't normally like country (mainly just the cornball lyrics and overdone sentimentality - I like a lot of country guitar players though, and rock guitar that sounds a bit 'country' like The Eagles or Lynkrd Skynrd (spelling?)). When Mark Knopfler does a country type song I really like it because of the songwriting. I love Bob Dylan and he can sound super country. Also JJ Cale I love, and he was influenced by country a lot. Even Hendrix borrowed a lot of licks from country guitar players and incorporated it into his rhythm playing, which I absolutely LOVE. I don't like straight country music, but whether I like it or not I'm still influenced by it through other non-traditional country artists, if that makes any sense. Its not the instrumentation I hate, or the sound of it I've found, its just the usual kinda lyrics that goes along with it.
To be honest, how can I really connect with American country music if I grew up in Australia? The same goes with rap, I'm not a fan, but hey I'm not a black guy from the "hood", so you can't expect me to connect with it either. But I do respect it as evolving kinda like a modern type of blues from dudes in the ghetto... I like a lot of music that has been influenced by rap and hip-hop however - stuff like the chili peppers and RATM, thats where it can better talk to me ...
Also with techno - I always absolutely despised techno of any kind, until I played WipEout2097 on the PlayStation back in the day. I loved all the techno on that game (it was in the right context), it changed my opinion that techno could have its place as a valid style of music. Because I realised no other music would fit that game so amazingly well. I then discovered that I liked The Prodigy from that game, and then I heard Jeff Beck's new stuff that has similar backing to prodigy style beats, with awesome guitar over the top - its was a revelation for me. It connected the techno thing and the guitar thing that I had thought sooo far apart. Good music is good music and thats all there is to it - its beyond genre definition.
The lesson here guys? Your favorite bands/artists have probably been infuenced in some way by music that you think you hate. My advice: all genres have something to offer, maybe one day an artist will surprise you and bring out (in your mind) what you never knew you liked.
If a genre is in the right context to communicate with
you, you'll probably enjoy it
Now think about
that before bashing whole genres of music...💡
P.S.
You can staple my tongue to the floor with a croquet hoop before I'd listen to SJR of my own accord.

They're in a whole vomit bag of mediocrity all by themsleves.
P.P.S.
I'd just like to acknowledge that while I defended HATEKORE earlier in the thread (because of what PS said), that does not make his opinions any less narrowminded or cookoo in my book. But of course, thats just my opinion...
P.P.P.S.
I can't understand anyone "hating" Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Black Sabbath... dislike maybe, but hate? They are all classic bands!
I can't say I hate punk entirely (although most of it I do) because The Living End (awesome aussie band) play guitar better than most bands these days, quite complex musically, and its half jazzy, kinda rockabilly anyway. i hate the sex pistols, but "God Save the Queen" was fun for its sheer stupidity.
Don't like grunge except for some of Nirvana I can enjoy if I'm drunk at a party.
There is one genre of music that I can say that I do HATE in all its entirety: diva pop. Stuff like Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Beyonce, etc etc all of them. Terrible, just terrible.
