Sting
Hmmm, I seem to always do well in practise and warmups, but where it counts the quali and races don't seem to go my way. lol

come one Jef its not as if you're as far down on points as i am!
you're 3rd in the season so far and you came first at sepang:tup:

Blake
Really? Oh well, mine’s good this race…

Anyway, I don’t think my teammate sets up his car at all.

If you do that will it screw your current setup?

Yeah it will overwrite it.

FoolKiller
I have to defend my practice times. I hoped I wouldn't but I suddenly look like the worse guy in the Touring Class.

Something screwed up and made me test 3 times at once. I haven't had a good chance to really do anything with my car that I can test. It even says I only ran three times but won't let me test anymore. My true times will show in the races....I hope.

If I screw up completely I will just call myself a noob and try again.
Hey, I told you so. I'm only .176 behind you Sting and my teammate is .010 behind you. Can you handle the pressure of two MGs bearing down on you? :sly:

Oh great, with 6 warmup laps remaining I crash leaving me only one! what the hell, this game is totally against Ferrari!
I bet that is what happened to me in practice and I just didn't realize it. :dunce:

...welll isn't that great....

i crash on my first lap of qualifying and don't set a time in the session, and Specialized has seemingly lost interest already and didnt set his car...

Yeah Williams didn't fair much better. Send an angry PM to Specialized. 👍

Bee.
Thank you for taking time to have an interview with us Appie, so, San Marino, high expectations?

If you see my times tru the weekend, then i dont think so. But i will try to make the best of it

Bee.
You've had some close encounters with your teammate Scott Woodwiss, what is he like as a teammate and as a person outside of Formula 1?

he is a really great guy. I never had problems with him and we always help eacht out. But its always like he si getting the problems in the race and me in the qualify

Bee.
Yes your Toyota has not been the most reliable car on track this season, is frustration starting to settle in?

we can't really do something about it, but i hope that Scott and me can get a good results for the team.

Bee.
Now you've made many friends up and down the paddock, who do you consider your rival in races?

I always try being the best. But as i can see is Lee a very fast and one of the rare drivers that makes mistakes. We will meet one time on the track

Bee.
Has any drivers surprised you at all in the races gone by so far?

As i saw, Brett Edwards really suprised me with his speed, but sometimes i saw Scott in the qualify and he always amazed me with his speed and his contribution for the team and Simon is really fast as well.

Bee.
There's talk about you possibly replacing Simon at Honda next year, your
thoughts?

I don't know, i'm working at a really great team and its quite early to say where im going. But we will have to see.

Bee.
And finally, your predictions for the race?

uhhmm.. I hope to get a podium
and finish the race

Bee.
Ok, well good luck Appie and thanks for spending some time with us.

sure no problem

MotorSport Express

Exclusive interview with Jef Beyens.

ME: Thanks for taking time to give us an interview Jef, so, hows life at Ferrari past the Schumacher era?

Beyens: It's not too bad.. Granted theres an expectation in the team to do well considering how strong Ferrari have been over the past decade, but I believe we're capable of living up to the Schumacher legacy

And your team mate, Amp Eightyeight finishes the all british line up, your thoughts on him?

He's got talent within him, he's just got to let the beast free. We're both getting used to the new 06 car and it's an eventful process so far.

So the season so far, the hightlight has to be your win at Sepang?

Most definitely after the no finish at Bahrain. The mechanics have been working their asses off on this car in pre-season testing and Bahrain just crept up too soon. Sepang saw the re-emergence of Ferrari as a major contender to the championship, we're not gonna back down so easily.

Yes the DNF at Bahrain, can you enlighten us as to what actually caused it?

A mystery to us all, the car seemed fine for the first half of the race, lapping quick and at one point was leading. Out of nowhere fuel pressure started to fluctuate and the car wasn't getting the fuel it needed to run, so I brought it into the pits. Disappointing, but hey, thats racing.

Yes it certainally is, so now we are at what is considered Ferrari home turf, high expectations?

Oh yeah we expect to do well. Eightyeight had a hiccup in practice and qualifying, but after some time in the garage he's come back to go fastest in warmup, just ahead of me, so yeah I reckon we got a good chance of doing well.

Can you confirm anything for next season as to where you will be driving?

As far as I know I'll be staying with Ferrari as my contract runs for next season with them, but things change. However, for right now, I'm sticking with the prancing horse!

And finally, any messages to the fans?

Sure, just want to thank them for their support during this start of my career and hope to see them at Imola.

Thanks for you time and good luck tomorrow in the race.

Cheers.

Renault Mechanics Blasted

Renault 2nd driver Duncan Hutchison has critisised his mechanics after they put used slicks on during the pit stop at Sepang,

"We had a great start to the season with a 2,3 finish but since then not so good, partly due to our pit crew not knowing their arse from their elbow, and putting on VERY worn soft tyres on my car when I am going for a 22 lap stint." He said in a talk with us.

He continued on to say that he believes Lee Davidson shouldn't be on the track and that Renault road cars are 'crap',

"I drive a Jazz you know and Renault dont like it but they make crap road cars.. Dont tell 'em I said that. And dont get me started on that Lee Davidson, I thought we were ok after Sato got relegated!"

It appears he is becoming quite a character within the paddock.

Motorsport Memory

On this issue of motorsport memory, we go back to 2002 where Sauber took home an amazing 1-2 at Melbourne, Australia. Ben Specialized took the win 2 seconds ahead of team mate Boundary Layer with current Toyota driver Abdeslam 'Appie' Charkaoui taking 3rd in the Ferrari.

Woodwiss: I'm not going anywhere!

Scott Woodwiss has indicated his desire to stay at Toyota for next season after having a chat with our reporter,

"Well, at the moment, I'm sticking with Toyota. They have a great car and the company has treated me nicely. And if I may say, Appie has revealed to me that he has no intentions of leaving Toyota next season"

If this is true it may end speculation of Abdeslam 'Appie' Charkaoui's move to Honda for the '07 season.

👍

My Honda seat  , i'm quite happy where I am, I'm joint first in the chamionship and Honda are first in the constructors, however these Renaults are becoming a bit of pain in my quest for the World dominati.... I mean World Championship

I'm so confused about whether you are talking about 2006 or 2002.

Iceman's gonna get kicked out if he doesn't get his arse in here.

I'm so confused about whether you are talking about 2006 or 2002.

Mainly 2006 but the Motorsport Memories section will be devoted for 2002. It will feature interviews from back in the day, stories, events and race results.

I'm really worried about this next race... infact I'm worried about my next race in every series I'm competing in. I've changed my (fairly) successful race strategy for every series and now I'm not sure if it was the right thing to do. I guess we just have to wait and see.

It's been a while since I posted in here (been doing my Interesting F1 Stats thread), but now I'm back and giving it some proper attention. As I discussed with my Ferrari team-mate, Beyens, I felt I had a bit of trouble in the first few races of the season in really pushing the car. I wasn't as comfortable as I felt I could have been, which led to a decrease in my overall pace relative to my team-mate. I've also had a little bit of trouble in really dialling in the set-up of the car. Thanks to Beyens, though, I've been getting a lot of help in that lately and I'm learning about the car. His settings don't always work for me, out driving styles are a bit different, but I think his settings are a bit step in the right direction for me 👍

Bahrain started off as an encouraging weekend. Qualifying 4th and 8th in the Ferraris we felt we had a strong package for the season. Beyens got off to a flier to end lap 1 in 6th, however, my gearbox didn't get the message and we had to pit on lap 2. I came out in 17th position, my good qualifying result a memory of the past. Then I had a bit of trouble getting past on of the STRs, putting Impulse out of the race and causing damage to my car. I then got passed by one of the Hondas and was out of the race on the next lap. The damage to my car caused a handling issue which threw me off in the middle of 11. An inspired race strategy from Beyens saw him in the lead for several laps, even setting the Fastest Lap in the middle of the race. Then, as Beyens has already mentioned in his earlier interview, he was out of the race with a fuel pick-up problem.

I think we learned a few lessons from the first race. We rushed the new car to be brutally honest, a double retirement wasn't what we wanted from the season opener. However, we did take away the fact that we were quick in qualifying and Beyens had serious race pace. We were all looking forward to Malaysia then, to try to improve our situation and hope for an improvement in reliability. Sadly we didn't have any time for testing between Bahrain and Malaysia, but our test drivers Luca Badoer and Marc Gene were hard at work back at the factory testing the car.

At Malaysia, Beyens put in an absolutely stunning lap to claim the first Pole Position for our new car. My performance wasn't anywhere near as good, I was having serious balance issues from the start of the weekend which stayed through qualifying. My race set-up was really bad, I was struggling with corner-entry understeer and corner-exit oversteer, causing my tyre temps to soar. There was a lot of action on the first lap but I made my way through the field to finish the first lap in 4th, with Beyens having kept his advantage from Pole off the line. A mistake in communications saw me coming into the pits at the end of lap 2 and being fitted with Soft tyres - exactly what I didn't need with such an ill-handling car. To top it all off, I stalled coming out of the pits and had to be started again. I ended lap 3 last-but-one. At least I was still in the race, though, unlike Bahrain. I steadily climbed up to 11th position by lap 23, but I stayed there or just behind there for several laps. I couldn't pass those in front. A late-race collision with one of the Midlands could have been disastrous, but thankfully my car stayed intact.

Beyens went on to take an excellent win, while I finished the race very disappointed more than 70 seconds bahind in 13th place. We came away from the weekend with a very positive outlook on things, a win and a double-finish was just what we needed for the boys back home at Maranello and the rest of the team. Then we moved on to the next race at Melbourne.

Our qualifying performance wasn't exactly stunning. My set-up problems were back and I was again soundly outqualified by Beyens. A great first lap, however, saw us both up several places and into 4th and 8th spots. Lap 2 was even better, we both improved again up to 3rd and 6th. By the end of lap 5 we had exceeded our expectations and were holding 2nd and 4th places, looking good compared to those around us. I took advantage of the Safety Car and came in to pit whilst Beyens stayed on track, taking over the lead of the race. I had trouble making my way through the back-markers, stuck behind a Super Aguri for several laps. Then we were struck with reliability issues again, Beyens having trouble with his fuel system again. The probem seemed temporary, however, and he was able to carry on at his earlier pace. We had another double-finish but after the joy of Bahrain it was back down to a single points for an 8th place finish for Beyens. We were dejected.

This weekend at Imola, however, I think our cars should have good race pace. I couldn't compete in the qualifying session due to problems with my car the team has told me not to discuss, but Beyens and I are currently leading the Warmup time list, so we're both very happy about that. I think it should be an interesting race coming through from the back, as long as I don't trip over any of the back-markers and I find enough space to pass them.

I have a quick question about the BTCC game coming up. The race starts soon and I want to make sure that if I choose slick tires after using one set for practices/qualifying my remainig set will be good enough for the race.

Or should I select a different type so that I have two full sets to use?

Sorry about the newbie question. It is my first game. I just don't know how it does the tires.
