Press Release Time: Kawasie signs up with Spyker, again
For at least the 3rd season will be driving a Midland (if not a rebadged one), as today agents reported a swift deal with the Spyker F1 team for the 10th anniversary of GTPF1.
Personnel with Spyker reported that although Kawasie's performance has been less than optimal in recent seasons, he has driven well and won multiple races for Midland/Spyker in the past. In addition, teammate David Smith is a consistent top finisher, and the two together finished at the top of the pack in a recent historic 1986 Formula 1 championship.
Kawasie was quoted that his decision was "mainly due to Smith's interest in working together," claiming that with his own performance Kawasie "could not be a cherry-picker, and would take any race drive."
"Smith is an excellent teammate and driver, and I hope to learn much from him in the upcoming season," Kawasie stated. He also publicly apologized to old teammate Herman Chang for not being able to work with him again. "I don't think I'll be allowed within 500 feet of a Williams next season," he mused. "Perhaps next season sounds good?"
Kawasie however has also been contemplating re-launching a private championship of him during GTPF1 Season 11, known in many circles as the Total Mayhem series. With the recent opening to the public of the Le Mans cars and courses, he claims that the large field of entrants and lengthy races would make an excellent combo for "complete destruction."
