Cool 👍, how about you sign up for GTP Season 3 once sign ups are open? It's a 2006 based season with only drivers from this forum. :)

Heyo all, just got addicted to BATRacer also - great stuff! My first F1 06 race I had a great setup, wrecked in qualifying, and went from 20th to 4th in the race ^^ It's pretty simple but quite in-depth - I love it!

Can't wait to, uh, barge in on the GTP Season 3...but I'm not sure if I have room ! I have 2 public and 1 private game going already. Still, even if I can't join, will be excitedly watching from the sidelines...

Well, if we have new players, there are a total of 22 slots, so you might have to get in quick, or sign for Super Aguri. ;)

Red Day At Montreal

Qualifying took place today for the Canadian Grand Prix and the action was thick and fast from the first session till the last.

Torro Rosso driver Ashley Butler was first out on the track as the session started, with a fast practice pace the team was in a bullish mood and Butler set a decent pace for the rest of the pack to follow. Both Renaults managed get ahead but it was Australian Brad Horton in the Midland that took the fastest time. This was partly due to the fact the session was red flagged in the final minute after Honda driver Lee Davidson lost his car going into the final chicane, the infamous 'Champions Wall' took in another victim. This is the second time in a row that Davidson will be starting from the last row, a severe dent in the young brit's asperations for the title. Also dropped was both Toyota's, Smith in the BMW and Travis in the floundering McLaren.

2nd Session saw Ferrari driver Jef Beyens take the fastest lap securing Ferrari's challenge for the weekend, just ahead of Canadian Carl Audet in the Renault, with Simon Trendell in the lone Honda in 3rd. Further down, Marc Pianelli in the Williams was lucky to get through as he only competed in 10 minutes of the session before he had a tyre failure causing alot of cosmetic damage to his car. He finished in 10th, dropping out in session 2 were Groper in the second BMW, Ramos in his McLaren, West had a poor session not keeping up with his team mate Butler dropped out in 13th, Blow and Lewis rounded out the drop outs.

The final session was sure to be spectacular with the top 3 teams, Honda, Renault and Ferrari all competitive. The laps didnt get competitive untill there was 6 minutes left when Duncan Hutchison clocked in a 1'12.889, he was quickly followed by his team mate Audet who went 2 tenths faster, Torro Rosso's Ashley Butler suggested he was light fueled when he set his fastest lap of a 1'12.473, it was however going to be Ferrari's day ultimately and they did it in some style, with 40 seconds left on the clock Jef Beyens took his Ferrari onto provisional pole with a 1'12 flat but little did he know that the quiet man fo the day, Blake Haswell, was rocketing down the back straight setting a blistering pace, a slight lock up going into the chicane appeared to do nothing to his nerves and he crossed the line in a fantastic 1'11.758, 7 tenths faster than the first non-Ferrari, Blake was back in business!

SPOILERS!!

Montreal Goes Red

Today saw a impressive display by Ferrari at the Canadian Grand Prix, with Blake Haswell leading his teammate Jef Beyens over the line. The start of the race was, as usual at Canada, filled with incident. Brad Horton in the Midland closed the door on Williams driver Marc Pianelli too forcefully resulting in contact between the two cars, Horton was able to drive away as Pianelli climbed out of his car, furious with the Australian. Horton however would run out of luck when again he tried to defend his position, this time from Smith in the BMW, the 2 collided and forced Horton off the track, into the tyre wall and out of the race. Smith pitted at the end of the lap to check for damage. Further up the field, after surviving a tyre clash with Bond in the Red Bull, Renault driver Duncan Hutchison collided with Groper in the second BMW, the collision pushed Groper into Champions Wall whilst Hutchison managed to get away from it all cleanly.

Brad Horton Was The Centre Of Controversy.

The resulting Safety Car period finished on lap 6 with Soyfu in the Midland overtaking Butler for 3rd on the very next lap, Adam Bond managed to cleanly pass Hutchison on the same lap notibly showing his anger as he went past the Renault. The weather took a change around lap 14 when the heavens opened and a light drizzle came down to the track, no-one opted to dive in for intermediates in hope that the drizzle would fly past the track. Lap 17 saw West in the Toro Rosso collide with Lee Davidson in the Honda, both seemed to be struggling for grip as they went into the hairpin and a collision was inevitable, Davidson kept going, West finished up in the tyre wall and out of the race. The first tyre changes took place on lap 18 with Beyens and Machiels in to strap on intermediate tyres, they were followed in by Haswell, Davidson and Travis on lap 19.

Travis Leaving The Pits.

Blow in the Williams led part of the race whilst pit stops took place, he set a good pace and Haswell at one point was struggling to keep up with him before Joe pitted on lap 35. Come lap 50 and the drizzle turned into rain but Soyfu was the only driver on actual full wets. It was Haswell in front of Beyens for the rest of the race in what was Ferrari's most dominent display in the season so far, Blow came home a great 3rd or be it 20 seconds behind Beyens, with Toro Rosso driver Ashley Butler a strong 4th. Simon Trendell protected his slender championship lead with a 5th place finish with Duncan Hutchison surviving what seemed like a war to take home 3 points in 6th. Nathan Soyfu took 7th in the Midland with Machiels in the Toyota scoring his first point of his Forumla 1 career in 8th. Hometown hero Carl Audet could only managed 9th whilst Lee Davidson finished last of the classified drivers in 16th, 2 laps down.

Carl Audet Finished Outside The Points.

The result put Haswell back in contention for the driver's championship, only 2 points behind leader Simon Trendell. In the constructors, Honda still have a 7 point lead at the top ahead of Ferrari, Renault only scored 3 points and are now starting to be caught by Williams in 4th. The next race takes place at the Indianapolis Speedway in America where Steve Travis, Marc Pianelli, Joe Blow and Nathan Soyfu will be looking for inspiration from their home crowds.

Haswell Raises His Fist In Victory.

Horton can suck it. You made two people's races bad. I swear, man, these Midland moving chicanes...

I don't see why. Because I'm ultimately going to finish ahead of your anyway.

Why fight the inevitable Midland win? :sly:

Get out of the way next time, fathead. You cost me a very plausible podium position.

Whatever. I'll just let the practice times so far do the talking.

Okay, asshead. You're just lucky that the stupid website decided it would screw me in warmups.

Umm, of course it did... You have 100% settings, whereas I don't due to practice. PLUS you were on softs.

Red, White and Black At Indy

Qualifying for the American Grand Prix took place today and threw up a number of suprises.

The first came in session 1 as Canadian GP winner Blake Haswell stopped halfway around the circuit with a mechanical problem on his out lap, Blake would no longer take any action, the same fortune struck Renault driver Duncan Hutchison who's Renault never left the garage after the mechanics fround a crack in a piston after Friday's practice. So 2 high profile names went out in a matter of minutes, this gave some rookies a chance to shine and make it into session 2. One of these was Bob Smith in the BMW Sauber, who took the final advancing position of 15th. At the top end of the leaderboard, it was Renault's Carl Audet fastest with Midland's Nathan Soyfu second and Lee Davidson in the Honda 3rd. Dropping out along with Haswell and Hutchison was Machiels, Travis who's pace continued to lack infront of his home crowd and Steve West in the Toro Rosso.

The second session saw Midland continue their impressive pace with Soyfu taking the fastest time, now breaking into the 1'09's. Pianelli took a suprising second in the Williams with Audet still hanging on in 3rd, the session was red flagged with 2 minutes to go however when Joe Blow lost his Williams at the final corner with the side of the car taking the most impact, Joe suffered a slight concussion, he has yet to be confirmed for the race. 2 big names from last week's GP, Simon Trendell and Ashley Butler were suprisingly knocked out in 13th and 14th respectively, also dropping was Smith (15th), Groper (12th) and of course the unfortunate Blow (11th).

The final session was full of uncertainty with both Midlands on the pace aswell as Audet, Davidson, Pianelli and Beyens all setting respectable times. As the times started to get towards competitive figures, Beyens took his Ferrari super wide at the final turn of what was a very fast lap and was lucky to not follow Blow into the wall, he finished the lap and it would eventually give him 4th place on the grid. Elsewhere Honda driver Lee Davidson, making it into the final session for the first time since Monaco, had a huge moment at the first corner with a minute left on the clock, his chance had gone and he netted a dissapointing 8th place. Audet in the Renault didn't fair much better, it was a clean lap but also a slow one compared to earlier times, it could be due to fuel or tyres, either way he took home 6th place on the grid. Surpassing expectations were Red Bull Racing who got both cars into the top ten, with Lewis in a spectacular 5th place and Bond in 7th, wether they are light fueled is yet to be seen. So it was down to Marc Pianelli and the 2 Midlands of Horton and Soyfu, Pianelli, obviously still annoyed of his exit in the last gp thanks to Horton gave it his all and set a personal best of 1'09.899. The challenged was layed. Horton was first to cross the line and he obliterated the American's lap with his own personal best of a 1'09.551, 3 tenths faster than the Williams. It appeared as that would be the pole time before Nathan Soyfu, after the time had finished, went into the final corner, he carried so much pace int othe corner that the back end wiggled out a bit, however it wouldn't stop the American and to the delight of the home crowd he beat his Australian team mate by 8 thousandths of a second. The delight of Nathan was obvious as he lept out of his car, he will be starting on the all Midland front row, in first, at Indy.
