ROAR two consecutive GTPF1 podiums.

My return to the top of the GTP pile is imminent... muahahah. :D

I'm stunned by the amount of suck I have lately. I'm excellent in qualifying, but the crap I get during races is just stunning.

Hey, I swear to your God: I was not aiming for you. You just ... got in the way a little bit.

I don't blame you, I later had another guy crash into me. At least you retired - the other guy got off scot-free! :p
That's my one hate within the game. The number of times I've been run off the road and out of the race by someone who didn't even get a few of my paint chips in his fender was enough to make me want to stop playing altogether at one stage. I especially hate it when that happens and you barely get any damage at all.

F1 Pack Released!
In a first for BATracer, we have released 3 new carsets at once - all based on past modern F1 seasons - each with their own features that make them different from the rest.

Smallprint: Because not everybody loves F1, we've not made them permanently available this time so you'll have to wait if you didn't get to join any of the initial games - they'll rotate around again real soon we promise! We will be revising game creation soon. For more information about these carsets please see this forum post. Enjoy!

You know, the new F1 car sets don't really do that much for me. I'm sure Michael put a ton of effort into them, but I can't see myself playing them tht often. I might have a go at the 1999 carset every now and again, but the 2005 one just doesn't do anything for me and I'm indifferent towards 1997 (I have no idea why they included Lola, the team was a joke; they'd be worse than the 2008 Super Aguri and Force India combined).

They are. Jules said the Lola is the slowest car in the entire game. ;)
Oh, God. Hope he didn't say it too loudly because if people know that, F1-'97 games are going to take even longer to fill up than their '86 cousins. Should be good for lose-to-win championships, though.

Actually, I'm kind of glad that I've still got seventeen days before a public game slot opens up for me. I can imagine that getting a good drive in the new carsets is going to be a race to see who can click the fastest ... I took a loot at a 1999 game that opened up, and at least eight teams were occupied, all of them with passwords on them.

Anyway, hopefully the carset builder means we can get more carsets sooner; I'm hoping DTM and SuperGT come around soon because I can't wait to get my hands on them.

Also, does anyone have a car comparison for the three new carsets? I'd like to see the performance stats just to see how things weigh up ... largely because I'm sick of having to be in a decent car to be competitive, so I'm sure there's a few hidden gems in amongst them that people won't automatically go for ... they certainly exist in other carsets.

Plenty of good-looking stuff in there: Jordan, Prost and Sauber all look like decent drives that most people won't go for straight away.

Likewise this one; I'm liking the look of the Stewart, Prost and Sauber. Even Minardi ... maybe.

Not so much the 2005 set though, it looks quite unbalanced. Renault is the obvious drive to take, but at least the other Big Three teams have virtually no reliability ...

Agreed, Jules said that 97 has a very competitive midfield and that you're likely to have more fun in a mid-grid car battling with the other midfield cars (ie anything that isn't Ferrari, Williams, McLaren, Lola, Minardi or Tyrrell) than in the cherries/tailenders.

Do you race?

I'd say of all F1 sets in the game, 99 is the most even - by the looks of it, the Minardi and Arrows aren't that far off front-running pace.

Also agreed; if Renault had a black bar half as long as it currently is, then I reckon it (the set) would be a lot better. Grab the Renault, and you have the most reliable and second-fastest car.

Race strategy looks fun though - you have to set your strategy before qualy and you run with your first stint fuel load for qualy. Tyre choice is also locked during the race - change dry compounds and you end up with extremely worn tyres that burst in 15 laps

From a competitiveness perspective: 99 by the looks of it
From an entertainment perspective: 97, based on what Jules said about the set (but I hate the points system. Just like 1986)
From a strategy perspective: 05, hands down

That Lola is way too good, in a private game Ed williams and I got 5th and 11th in qualifying for Melbourne. In real life, Lola were over 10 seconds off pole..

I hate cherrypickers. Hate 'em with a passion. I shuddered yesterday when I saw the new #1 player is a notorious cherrypicker, who used to nab McLaren and Ferrari drives with his four accounts ..

Yeah, I think there's going to be a few surprises ... at least initially. Everyone is going to dive fo the Ferraris and McLarens, and leave the Minardis and Arrows machines given their reputations.

What are the chances of that happening? *cought*leonandgraham!*cough*

I suppose if the five-season rule is used, it would make things better; I know it's recently been introduced into F1-2002. I'm currently running a Ferrari there and it's so good that my team mate does his runs and we have a perfect setup before I do my practice runs (because the game carries over in the middle of the night for me).

Now that's more interesting. Might have to look into an '05 game once I get some slots emptied. I swear, this MR2 game I have against Metar and Duncan is one of the most frustrating I've played.

I'll second that. Now, fingers crossed that we get DTMs and SuperGT soon ...

I suspect that's very deliverate, Bee. Can you imagine how long the games would take to fill if people knew they'd be ten seconds per lap behind the leaders? I saw one of the proposed car comparison pages when I was trawling the forums one time and the original plan was to have all four bars that represent Lola being about half as long as the '99 BAR's reliability scale.

EDIT: Yep, Jules confirmed it:
Another way to look at it is that they were forced to enter early and their own engine wasn't early, so in a sense they're due some HUGE upgrades.

As it happens, by not starting 13 seconds off the pace in BATracer, they've already had their huge upgrade.

Haha yeah I know, I was just hoping the Lola would be a significant challenge, much like say, the AGS in '86.

I scored a third-place finish first time out in the 99 Stewart.... even after taking 50% damage on lap 41 (of 57 - Melbourne) :p

I also managed sixth at Brazil in the 97 Benetton. Not bad considering my teammate's as useful as a wet sock.

I thought an wet sock keeps u wet. So maybe its useful:idea:

sorry...

Just reigstered, and am now in the BTCC Academy class in an Alfa 156, with Mike as my teammate. I couldnt understand how often the races were and why but Bee explained :)

I should be fine setting up cars after countless times doing it on GTR2 and now starting to do it for real on Formula renaults etc. :sly:

See you guys around I guess

Fresh meat for GTPlanet F1 S22

Jules is going to be releasing an update to the Champcar set any time now... ;)
