... i need to learn to look more carefully, sorry for asking a stupid question, thanks for pointing it out haha

Caz you said you play during the midnight shift at a motel, right?
Because there was a guy (I'm in New York too) playing BF3 at the Days Inn I'm at.

Morale of the story: do what VEXD said. Empirical data > flashy graphs.

I'm a firm believer in this, which is why I avoid making judgements based on too much data. On that note here's my very vague draft for my guide, specifically the assault class. Formatting isn't sorted out properly, but I want to know if the info is useful and written well enough or would people prefer as brief as I can make it.

GTP BF3 Handbook
Assault

General Info:

Assault is your infantry combat specialist, armed with formidable assault rifles which is the most versatile weapon class of any kit and the ability to keep their team on maximum health and pick them up when they’re down the Assault kit can be and often is a game changer on infantry based map. Assault players should gravitate towards objectives and groups of players to make best use of their medical equipment, but also to break through or defend against infantry making use of the wide array of abilities which assault rifles can provide. They also have the capability to provide accurate cover fire from medium range. The key to remember is infantry specialist, so use it on the maps where there’s not too many vehicles, consider swapping to engineer if you are.

Playstyles In Short:
The Medic:

This is often the best way to play assault, stick close to team-mates and keep everyone healthy whilst killing what you can as well. Particularly effective on small close quarter maps and can rack up ALOT of points for you. You’re always a medic regardless even if you are playing another role as well, remember that, but you can turn healing and reviving in to your primary use and do a great deal for your team and be rewarded heavily for it.

The Slayer:
Kill kill kill, make your primary role to be a nuisance to enemy infantry either from afar or close with the correct rifle for the job you can cause alot of trouble for the enemy. You can be effective at extremely long ranges with the right set up but you should not become a pseudo sniper, use your versatility to adapt to the way a round is going. Remember to heal those you can though.

The Spearhead:
Similar to a slayer but more proactive, lead the assault using the M26 shotgun or M320 launcher to sweep buildings or remove entrenched enemies. Lead the fight, die often trying to break a defence but above all else never give in, try different routes if one isn’t working and keep the pressure on defending enemies or hold the frontline of your own defence to allow a push forward or flank by another squad. Oh and guess what, you’re still a medic as well.

Equipment:
Primary Weapon – High rate of fire V controllability over range is the name of the game here. Weapons like the F2000, FAMAS and AEK are all high fire rate weapons which can deal massive damage but aren’t as accurate as the lower RoF weapons like the L85, M16, M416 and AK74M. The former group are great for close quarter battles and are best used with a holo or red dot sight, grip and almost any third attachment. The latter group accept up to a 4x zoom scope happily for more range accuracy, the grip is usually favoured again and you can use a flashlight or laser sight to improve the close quarter capabilities if necessary but a heavy barrel is also an excellent option for some very long range capability due to reduced bullet drop. Most of the normal Assault weapons are all useful in their roles, so you can pretty much pick a favourite but if in doubt the M16A3 (full auto version) is very versatile as is the M416 which is unlocked for both kits early. Remember to change firing mode with down on the d-pad for consoles, semi automatic is extremely useful at long range especially on a ranged assault rifle with a heavy barrel and zoom scope set up. The third attachment is often not an easy decision, if in doubt the flash suppressor is currently an excellent option. A quick note on the only really unique weapon, the G3A3 is a weapon I’ve not personally used but is to my knowledge a decent mid-range rifle due to higher power then other ARs bullet for bullet but sacrifices RoF to an extent and close range usability.

Personal Favourite Weapons:
Ranged AR: L85 + 3.4x scope + heavy barrel – Bipod or foregrip is optional here, bipod allows extreme ranged accuracy and the foregrip helps in closer quarters I use neither as I don’t need the foregrip and the bipod can deploy annoyingly.
Versatility: M16A3 + Holo + foregrip/rail with M26/smoke launcher + depends, often swapping this slot – Super fast reload time, excellent all-rounder.
CQB AR: AEK971 + Holo + foregrip/rail with M26 + flash suppressor/full suppressor – Not to crazy RoF, awesome reload animation.

Defibrillator – Can’t be swapped out for good reason, a staple of the class. Make use of your defibs as much as possible but be smart. Don’t bother getting yourself killed to revive someone, do a quick check of the area if you’re worried and don’t let your team-mates body be bait. At the same time, don’t be too slow as you don’t have much time and on infantry heavy maps you can make a tonne of points and help your team by simply constantly reviving on a flag.

M26/M320/Medkit – Medkit is almost always the choice gadget here, it’s universally useful in all game types and situations. Don’t underestimate the M320s smoke grenade on Rush however, it can be used to great effect to allow you to move more safely on to an objective. Medkit should usually be your default though as other equipment here is more circumstantial. Remember you can also drop a medkit on yourself if you plan on sitting tight for a few seconds, it’s essentially like having extra health and you can easily duck for a second or 2 and gain health. The M26 is great for sweeping buildings though and the M320 for blowing away a covered enemy, but the medkit is always useful where those are more situational. If there’s already alot of medkits around though feel free to have another weapon in your arsenal. Currently the M26 DART is bugged as many of you know, use the MASS if you don’t want to look like a jerk/get kicked from servers and also get used to what it will be like once the Dart is fixed.

Key Tips:
- Being a medic is often your primary role, don’t forget that.
- No seriously, be a good medic there’s nothing more annoying in BF3 then a medic who could easily revive you but doesn’t. I’ll keep on saying it to hit this point home.
- When using M320 smoke, hit the enemy with it so they can’t see you coming whilst you can see them, try not to blodk your own vision of where you’re going unless neccessary.
- PTFO, as an Assault player you should not shy away from objectives. Note however that you do not need to be on the objective to be doing your job, sitting behind the front line reviving or giving mid range support is also useful but a good assault player should not be afraid to dive on a flag or for an MCOM.
- Avoid using vehicles unless backed up by an engineer with a repair tool an assault player in a vehicle is sometimes a waste unless the vehicle will go completely unused otherwise.
- Avoid enemy vehicles even more, there’s nothing you can do against them effectively unless you are near a rocket turret so just run away and stay alive. Sit near stationary turrets if you can if you’re on a tank heavy map like Caspian Border Conquest, but you should probably not bother with Assault on such a map unless you have plenty of engineers on your team.
- Use your teammates as bait, let them run in to a room first get killed so you can run in and finish the enemy off then revive your downed buddy and carry on. You shouldn’t be the first guy in a room if you’re talking to a friend, but with random players often you’ll have to lead by example and go in first.
- This can be the most powerful class on small maps, and the most pointless on large vehicular ones so choose wisely.

@Dragonistic
Good info, its nice to have someone confirm that what I am doing is not entirely stupid.
I come into a medic/spearhead category depending on the situation, and fully agree with "die often trying to break a defence".

Thanks for the feedback, if anyone has anything they wish to add by all means go ahead 👍. I was worried it would be to long, but then again people only need to look where they want for the particular pieces they need and for the classes they want.

I plan my general contents to be as follows (a post for each):
Introduction, abstract on how I've came to my conclusions and how information will be presented + contents.
General Gameplay and Game Mode Tips (Including a brief mention on PDWs)
Assault
Engineer
Support
Recon
Air Vehicles
Ground Vehicles
Squad loadouts + General tricks for teamplay.

Lol yeah I do. I'm in Boston tho ;)

Looking good drag. If you haven't already, you should post it on the group page here so it is always easily accessable.
I didn't read the weapons section, but the rest is enjoyable and imformative.

Last night was pretty good fun, hadn't played in a week or so. One very tough round at Metro (it was a 200% ticket server), got 50 kills with the SKS. We'd pinned them back to A, they then pinned us back to base and VEXD managed to break though, as he always does, for C. I threw down a spawn beacon and we held on for a good win.

That Gazoz who was frustrating you last night, VEXD, looked him up on Battlelog and his stats are pretty good. There was ab it of lag at times last night, but overalll good fun once I got the game to load after 2-3 crashes on firing up.

I thought they were going to spawn and watch their teammates drive/fly away, leaving them behind. And then for good measure the pilots would crash.

Plan to make an entire thread for it, I did one for MCLA as well with Turbo Lag in a similar manner which proceeded to go mostly unused .

I've realised a really annoying feature of GB of late, especially in big ticket matches that has to do with Flag B, and specifically dealing with the room overlooking B (that has two doors ways leading down onto steps/ flag) and the room between A and B. It is the one that campers love to sit in and fire down the side passage leading from A to B.

The issue I have been finding is the spawn points for flag B; there are only two. First at the back of the room by Flag B and the second is at the back of the second 'campers' room.

The issue comes when one team holds B, but doesnt possess it. This occurs either when your team is trapped in the Flag B room, but there are so many enemies in the second room/ side passage by A or in the side rooms on 'C' side that they actually hold the flag. What happens then is that your team can still defend that room from frontal attacks, even though its an enemy held flag. The issue is enemies simply spawn in behind you in the Flag B room and pick up the easiest of kills.

The same applies if the enemy holds B (and the Flag B room) but your team is pushing up from A and holds the side rooms on that side of the flag. What happens is the enemy can spawn in to the side room you all hold and wide out a squad.

I've lost count how many times my team is pushing up from A, attacking B and I am in that side room supplying ammo/ whatever. There are usually 3/4/5 of us lobbing grenades and firing at B when I get knifed from behind, from an enemy who spawned into that room behind our backs.

In such a case, it is almost worth suiciding and purposely spawning behind the enemy to wipe out their attack from behind their backs. It really ruins what is otherwise a great map. 👎

Yup those were great matches... Good teamwork with you, VEXD and theewar that night. :)👍

My skull is forming a dent shape where my headphones sit.

I got off BF3 at about 2am, and I got up to take the avatar out for a thrash today, but it's raining again.....

Just sitting here thinking about going back on BF3.....

But my skull is forming a dent shape where my headphones sit.

Play too much?

:irked:👍

I'll probably be on tonight (various snooker events this week) 9ish or so, I'd play now but I've got some work to do. :(

Hmmm. \

So PKP + suppressor + foregrip = can't hit the side of a barn door.

PKP + suppressor + no grip (undeployed bipod) = much better accuracy, probably the best out of all the accessory load outs.

Counter intuitive, but there you go.

Had a couple eof good rounds withvex xthewar and sureshot. Couldn't stay on your team round to round tho.

I noticed most everyone else was running around with shotguns so I wouldn't call him a total noob.
Yes but that guy abused the Dart glitch from the beginning until the end, I would expect something better from a lvl 100 player.

Don't.
I have yet to experience anyone ranked less than a colonel abuse the glitch. It means nothing. :grumpy:

How do u think they got to 100, skill is once answer but maybe not here....

You don't get to be level 100 without abusing the DART glitch, and the FAMAS, and the USAS with frag rounds... and the MAV...

Ok game or two Caz. We were on a real noob server though and our team couldnt PTO for crap.

In the last 12 hrs I have had 19 claymore kills. Just got the claymore medal! :D
