I got 2000 additional points once didnt show any ribbons for me after the match becauae there was too many then i counted them had 10 ribbons. Hope someone understands lol.

[Edit]: What is a good map for 2 stationary vehicle kills?

For the first part, it might just be a bonus for saying "Hey, way to do work, man." :)

And the second... my guess would be Tehran Highway on conquest. You might be able to get on the mounted rocket behind the B flag and catch an enemy vehicle napping on it's way down the hill. Unless they fixed it to where the mounted AA guns count towards this. In that case I suggest you go to Kharg Island Rush and when on offense use the ship's guns to shoot people at the beach. Trust me, I've had people do it to me before.

You can use the AA guns on maps like Caspian, op Firestorm, and Kharg. That's how I got mine. Kharg rush doesn't work.

I got mine on Caspian conquest by shooting a tank with a stationary rocket. It just happened to be damaged with two guys inside.

May have killed an enemy tank with two enemies in it last thing last night.

With a ruhpear torch.

Just did that a couple weeks ago. I can't remember the exact situation though. I was probably out of SMAWs and out in the open so it was my only chance. Had to stop and shoot the gunner when he popped out. After that took another ten seconds or so then it went boom.

For those of you trying to do the assignment, if you do every other part of it first, the Repair Tool kill will count for both assignments. Or at least it did for me.

I don't recommend hardcore servers to anyone.

Beginning of the round, you can bet that you'll be team killed by even looking in direction of nearby vehicles. If you are lucky enough to get into one (let's say little bird), you'll get C4'ed by your team mates during flight. On infantry based maps (seine , metro , bazaar) you'll get team killed by campers who are lurking in shadows of the buildings and are bit too trigger happy. No one is using health packs (even though there is no health regeneration) because it is so easy to spam grenades and get kills. Playing the objective just didn't exist in teams that I was in. I played 6 hardcore rounds where I got MVP ribbon 5 times and MVP2 once and my team lost all but 1 round. Did I mention team killing already?

:(

Is anybody else finding it difficult to et maintnence ribbons? In Bad Company 2 I would constantly be ruhpearing stuff but in this whenever you try the driver just drives away unless you get in a scout heli or find yourself in the middle of a tank battle.

I find it fairly easy to get repair ribbons, actually. Usually, I'm the driver of the tank and if I take damage will back out of the engagement, fix my tank, and drive back in. I get several repair ribbons a round, usually.

I just hop in the scout choppers, wait until everyone else gets bored.
With an adequate pilot (not too good, not too bad), you can rack up 10+ ribbons. Without shooting a single person.
When not repairing, I switch to the spotter's seat and hit select like a mad man.

I didn't have that bad an experience in my brief (2-3 rounds) of hardcore, it was Rush and was pretty tactical with no team killing I saw at all and my 870 suddenly became so much more usable compared to other guns.

On another note, I'm getting more and more in to Recon and I think I'm doing it right?

Most kills I've got in a game, only 1 didn't come from the mighty SKS which was a grenade, the SKS is the only rifle in the Recons arsenal that can put down such a crazy amount of firepower, there were moments where I racked up 3-4 kills firing at almost max speed at 50 metres or so on chokepoints just drilling holes through heads. It allows you to go for the objectives without necessitating your sidearm but allows you to support the objective with insane amounts of accurate suppressive fire with just the foregrip and a holo (I was silenced for this particular round as well so they had no idea where the pain was coming from). I may have racked up more deaths then usual for a Recon game, but it was usually on objectives.

I've pretty much got my Recon set ups sorted, SKS as described for CQB, Mk11 Silenced + bipod for mid range fire support (like hovering between B and C on Kharg CQ, this is my default set up) then I save the M40 for real long range engagements but I rarely bring it out because I'm far more interested in helping my team as much as I can and sitting a mile away spotting and picking off the odd straggler has nothing on getting a more central location where you can still spot everything important and put fast, real fast, suppressive and deadly fire. The only way a hilltop sniper from a mile away can really do damage, is with a SOFLAM put down for choppers and tanks.

Interesting about the SKS. My brief foray with it has not been successful, but using it as a heavy duty combat rifle is interesting. What damage does it do over short range? Two shot kill if no headshot? Might equip Recon with it; when I do play Recon (MAV) I don't really know what weapon to go with, so I might aim for your setup.

I usually don't stick around in scout helis when I'm on the side but I think when you ruhpear the helicopter it counts towards the scout helicopters if I'm not mistaken. So I could get repair ribbons and scout helicopter score. But usually when I'm in a tank if I'm the gunner the guy drives away or when I'm the driver the gunner gets out and hauls ass away. (That is while trying to ruhpear it I mean)

Stats and stuff

3 shot up close, 4 shot at distance so in principal it sounds pretty useless but I've just done my homework so I have the important figures that make the SKS do serious work at those mid range engagements. The vertical recoil per shot is nearly half that of the other semi-auto rifles (0.85 compared to 1.5) and it has the fastest fire rate at 375RPM compared to 260RPM on all the other semi-autos. The mag size is then double at 20+1 and you combine all those things and at distances around 50m the amount of rounds you can fire accurately is very impressive in practice. I get the feeling the suppression effect has something to do with it as well, you can do similar work with the other semi-autos but you need a bipod to be able to fire anywhere near as quickly and hit the target which limits the damage you can deal whilst remaining mobile.

In brief: SKS
Seine is the perfect map for such a weapon, where you can move in a way which means you're firing at that sweet spot range but you can still move around the map without fear. It's not the perfect gun by any means, you can't rely on it at longer ranges like you can it's siblings and similarly you can't rely on it to defeat automatics at close range but for mobile mid range fighting it's not only the best Recon gun, it makes a strong case for dominating almost anything if you have the precision of aim to use it. I suggest a red dot/holo (irons til you get them), a foregrip and then consider a flash suppressor or full suppressor or nothing.

Semi-automatic In General
The semi-auto rifles in general are really nice weapons, I've yet to use the chinese one but even when I accidentally have an SVD as it comes from the box instead of my Mk11 with all the add-ons I feel comfortable taking any infantry target down that isn't a bolt action sniper at super long range. They all fall down in counter-sniping, so your best bet is once compromised to a long range sniper to just back down but against other infantry you can kill much faster if you equip the bipod and once you're familiar with your rifle of choice dominate an area of the map. They work will with anything from holos to 8x in this role, then the SKS is the choice for maps where you don't need much above 100m if that.

Some Recon Tips
When not using the SKS though, the sign of a good Recon is when they can and do regularly bring out their pistol and get stuck in. I would say pick a semi-auto rifle that isn't the SKS, use that exclusively as your primary on most maps with a 7-8x and bipod then the SKS with a holo when you don't feel like the situation requires much long range engagements or you need to be constantly on the move (as in you can't post up for to long with your bipod, if you're going to you can consider another rifle). Your sniping remains untainted as the holo is nothing like the 8x, don't worry about headshots to much if your bipod is up as you can just pull the trigger twice and down most targets unless you're using a bolt action.

The key is time regardless of the rifle, including the bolt actions, stick with 1 for each type of map or playstyle (if you need 12x pick a bolt and stick with it, 8x-acog same again with semi-auto, acog-holo SKS ). Start off by using just 1 ranged set up of those and the SKS, don't change optics often on a single weapon or you'll throw your shot, if you get used to looking at one set of sights for one weapon you can better judge drop i.e. I'm looking through a 12x I know this M40 will drop roughly X amount, I'm looking through 8x I know my Mk11 will drop Y amount, rather than always one optics with many weapons where you have to work out which dots are now important or ever changing optics and trying to make 1 rifle fit all engagements by changing the optics is simply sub-optimal, 1 weapon 1 scope 1 playstyle 3 sets but even then try to stick to 1 rifle as much as you can until you need the SKS and keep your alternative ranged set up (i.e. if you mostly sit back with a bolty make sure you're not unfamiliar with a semi-auto and 8x in a mid-long range situation and vice versa). In battle there are superior weapons, but ultimately for the Recon role knowing your weapon is more important than having the best one but in order to find your favourite you have to suffer some frustrations as you work out how your new toy works.

Note: This is the sort of thing I'll harp on about if I make a guide for BF3, I've just pretty much written alot of my Recon section if I go ahead with it . Never in this much detail on any 1 weapon though, but on each class. If this is useful, I'll begin work right away, or if this is to long-winded I'll use bullets more then paragraphs if the information is good (though I intend to use bullets still). The latter 2 paragraphs are the ones I'm interested in feedback on, is the information useful or dribble? does it come across well or not?

Nice write up on the recon Drag 👍.
I'm another who never uses recon but your write up has pricked my interest to have a go.
Looking forward to any future installments.

Checked my stats last night and noticed I've been guilty of using the USAS way too much, around 1450 kills.
So I decided to change all my kits to some different weapons.
Firstly I thought I'd give the Famas a go to see what the fuss was about. Took me a fair while to get used to aiming again (no need with USAS) but the Famas is a killing machine, coupled with the M320 in the right hands some major damage could be dealt out.

On that topic can you guys recommend an assault rifle to use due to the pending patch. I enjoy assault at times but I'm sorry to say previously I've ran with the USAS almost exclusively for assault :guilty:.

Cheers Shaun.

^ I thoroughly enjoy using the M416 and I think it's not going to see many changes in the next patch... Has great stopping power imo.

I hear the G3 is getting buffed out of retirement... I used to love that rifle but they apparently nerfed it into redundancy by mistake whilst nerfing the SCAR. Hopefully, though, and I know this is likely to be wishful thinking, but hopefully this patch has been thoroughly thought through (lots of th in this sentence so far) so that the weapons are actually thbalanced so it won't make much thdifference what you pick, you'll thalways be effecthive and never outgunned. Thanks.

You've got nothing to feel guilty about mate; it's your game to play your way and although we joke around about the USAS, it is by no means invincible. In fact, since I changed away from it, I've increased my K: D ratio!

As for which AR to try, remember, they will all feel different as they are changing foregrip/ heavy barrel effects across the board. Blitz is right, they aren't altering the M416, other then the accessory tweaks ;)

-The FAMAS is a great weapon, get the first shot in and its a guaranteed kill due to its mad ROF. Penalty is the reload time which has caught me out plenty of times (4.5 secs). Nevertheless, it is my AR of choice. Doesn't seem to be getting a nerf in the patch

- M416 is my second choice. A bit punchier then the FAMAS as close range (less bullets needed to down an enemy) but it is traded off with a slower ROF and I felt more recoil. Still, a very good weapon.

- F2000 is kind of a cross between the two above. Small clip, high ROF, quite a bit of recoil. I haven't tried it much, but it seems pretty good.

I'd say stick with the FAMAS until you have unlocked a good few sights. I found Holo to be most effective, but each to their own.

Once you have gotten used to the M416, you can try on the IAR from support as they are share similar weapon characteristics. From that you might then migrate to belt fed LMGs which are recoil beasts but have their own virtues.

@ neema_t: Hope so too, although some weapon changes feel like changes for the sake of changes...

I'm going to put a word in for the L85 (and I think it's Drag's preferred AR), fantastic AR, good all rounder. I also have ~400 kills with the G3, but the L85 has a higher ROF and a clip of 30 rather than 20.

Blitz187, where are you mate, what is going on!?!?

Hey Dzidza! :) You miss me??

I'm on a little break... Things getting busy in daily life an such. Motivation was also gone the last couple of times I played and I wasn't into it like before... The best remedy is then to leave it for a couple weeks and start out fresh. So you'll be seeing me soon mate. No worries!

I was actually going to wait for the patch to come out before I picked it up again because it will have new things to learn again in regards to weapon accessories and such. But I think i'll be back before that because it could take a while before we actually get the patch of course. :D

Thanks for the advice guys. 👍
I'll try a few different weapons starting with your suggestions to see what suits me the best.
I only had a few rounds with the Famas so I'll give that a go until I unlock a sight that I like first and then take it from there.

Cheers Shaun.

FYI I run suppressor, foregrip and Holo with the FAMAS. Heavy barrel increased recoil and suppressor has the added benefit of keeping you hidden 👍

It is, the L85 provides controllability over range due to a lower ROF and low(est) vertical recoil so I run it with a 3.4x and grip (4x didn't feel right when I tried it first time and visual recoil is slightly reduced with the 3.4) and I generally don't get to close until needed. It doesn't provide the same sort of damage per second as the F2000, AEK and FAMAS which are all the weapons of choice for downing enemies fastest at closer range, but I choose weapons based on what I prefer in real life and the look of. It's actually one of the slowest ROF weapons in the class, you may be surprised to know all assault rifles deal the same damage per bullet, minimum and maximum, so only ROF affects damage dealing power but you get higher recoil for high ROF rifles and often poor reload times (though the L85 is actually quite slow as well).

It's a playstyle thing once again, I feel I personally don't need a super high ROF most of the time and I miss the controllability when it's gone. All of the assault rifles right now are decent (except the AN94 to my knowledge, the G3 is very unique by the looks to but I don't have it and haven't used it), so they're all worth a go to pick a favourite. The FAMAS deals most damage, but the AEK deals similar with less recoil, the F2000 is somewhere around the same mark, the M16 and M416 are middle grounds and most versatile with awesome reload times and the L85 provides the most accuracy. Yet to try the KH2002, seems to fit around the M16 and 416 with slower reload but the recoil may be slightly lower.

Nice to hear you're coming back. I am in the similar situation, except I am playing F4 now, and I needed a break from BF3. I just don't want to overplay it. Since I don't care about leveling, I want to enjoy it in the long run.

Hopefully, Dice will release the patch soon enough :-).

I have a small problem, each time I start playing online for the first time when i log in into PSN, I get disconnected from game server, and afterward it never happens again. Do you guys have a similar problem!?

^ Can't say I've run into that problem in my last matches... Is this recent? I know there was server maintenance in prep for the new patch.
