from LEGOs?!
Must... resist... fanboyism...

Too much time in his hands? Not at all.

Impressive? Yes and no. Yes, because there's lots and lots of details. And how its built to a large scale. And the moving main-gun.

No, because he's mostly used the basic techniques when building it. But that's just a minor technicality. There's still plenty of skill and patience involved in this, and he's got reason to be proud of what he created. Most AFOLs, like me, would give up after a year and a half.

Not saying this piece isn't amazing, but I'm forever more impressed with LEGO models of things that use the true function and shape of each brick rather than just the bricks as small bits of a larger sculpture. I don't know if that's the best way to phrase it, but it could have been made of anything, each brick's function contributes nothing more than the volume it occupies. It's the same for those Volvo VX90 and Honda Element builds.

It's hard for me to decide which Yamato is cooler. I would've been awesome if they played the Uchuu Senkan Yamato theme when they introduced it.
