Beam NG Drive

Outside of Gran Turismo, there is not much (carwise), that I'm looking forward to on PS5.

PMR and Rennsport failed to deliver. LMU ist still far away, as it seems and I'm more playing offline these days. ACE and ACR, if on console are even further away. Forza Horizon looks nice, but for me it's more a game I buy on sale in 2 years as it's huge but i find it a bit shallow and won't sink hundreds of hours into. So the only game on my mind until now was Wreckfest 2, as the first one was really fun for the single player "campaign".

beamNG.drive is something i know PC gamers into cars are fond of. I was really surprised today. This will definitely be a buy for me. I hope they include good controller settings.

Yeah, same.

It'll be interesting to how much content the console version has, as I know it's popular with modders. And I don't really know what the base game offers. Do wonder how good it'll be with a controller as well.

Definitely has my attention.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!

I have been looking forward to this for many years!!!!!! Didn't think it would actually happen!!!! LETS GOOO!!!!!
Guys so just to confirm will this be like a similar version to the original one on PC with all the physics, just with enhanced graphics??

Given the type of game it is which requires a lot of processing power and is heavily reliant on mods for a full experience of what makes it a great game I am not too confident that a console release will live up to the PC version. This is why I havent bought it for the SteamDeck.

Happy to be proven wrong though, hope they pull it off!

Impossible to know right now, as they have stated that a lot of CPU/GPU optimisation work was required. These are the current PC specs, note that the recommended specs are for 1080p! So a PS5 is (roughly) hitting the recommended specs for CPU and GPU, where it runs into potential problems is RAM, as the PS5's 16 GB is firmly in the minimum spec. In terms of the PS5 pro, it's CPU and RAM are roughly in the same ball-park, with the GPU's extra grunt most likely going to make it look prettier. However, the big challenge here is that BeamNG is a real CPU and RAM hog due to the complexity of the soft-body physics. I hope the optimisations are as they say; as those of us on PC are going to benefit from it as well.

Just to add some context to the above, my system exceeds the recommended in terms of CPU and GPU, and I'm running 32 GB RAM (12400F + 32GB + RTX 4070), at 2k this is what it looks like (so to be blunt it's over what a PS5 Pro is at).

I can get circa 60fps on a free-roam, but in traffic and with carnage, that will drop to 30-45fps! So that optimisation best be first rate for the base PS5 to have a hope.

I’ve played this on pc years ago and it’s a good sandbox crash simulator

I hope there will be some substance to it as getting a car and crashing it into a wall will soon get tiresome

See, now I have to go and throw my laptop on my rig. I have Beam on Steam, haven't gotten around to trying it since I've upgraded my gear.

I'm curious to see how it turns out on the Pro as well, though - I'm not holding my breath for PSVR2 support. I'm thinking I'm just going to have to go through the hoops to get that one in VR. 🤔

mef
Curious what mods are must have and how the developer will incorporate them. it doesn’t make sense without mod support, or a way to include a fixed list of best mods
Ye, I have the same question, according to Gemini AI, there will be an in game store where players from the PC community can post car designs and stuff (as long as it doesn't contain any logos or unlicensed branding) where PS players like us can download it, but this is just a theory. I recon it will be similar to like the showcase on Gran Turismo, or even more similar like the online store thing in Planet Zoo

Just did a bit of vr quest 3, driving up the huge ramp is scary..hehe

Damn!!! That is getting me even more excited to play it,feels like your on a rollercoaster with VR. So can you just place obstacles and ramps onto an empty world, is that how it works?

This is just the default handling, crash type level, yes you can place objects, theres a comprehesive editor, not sure how it would be on console.

Yep, and so much more. It's at its heart a sandbox with softbody physics and pretty solid FFB, but they have added (and continue to add) open worlds to explore, race tracks, mission style events, etc.

At present you have experiences and Free-roam, with a career due in the future.

The quickstart experiences have loads to do.

While free-roam has a good selection of locations, each with numerous areas to explore and mess about in.

Career mode is greyed out but you can still play it, hopefully it's ready for PS5 because it's pretty cool.

Start with a beater, do jobs to earn money on an open world map, buy more cars. Repairs and fuel cost you money.
