I only ever use the DL when on a track that I am unfamiliar with until I get familiar with it. It is basically only a guide for brake points so I ignore the line otherwise. After that, I ditch the line completely & only run ABS 1.

This also applies to people who do use driving aids. It is a game, and point of them is fun. Why not let people have fun? Last time I checked, nobody ever died from letting others have fun on video games. In fact, here's a little story. Whenever I see a room with driving aids banned, I either bite my arm really hard I sometimes bleed or I pound my head really hard a couple times. Just think of that fact when making public rooms, that you could be causing serious harm to others.

I really hope your story of self harm is just that - A story.

GT5 is a computer game but it is advertised as "The real driving simulator". Some treat it as a game, others adapt a more serious approach - Either way they have paid their money for it and it is up to them how they play the game.

That's the great thing about GT5 - You can treat it as an ultra serious simulator and have fantastic, enjoyable close racing or you can simply treat it like an arcade racing game and have fantastic, enjoyable close racing. Or any of a million subtle differences inbetween. There's no right way and no wrong way. The game caters for everyone and playing online you can find a room to suit you. Some only want drag racing, some are dirty shuffle racing, some are outright pure F1, but there's always something for everyone.

It's also quite good fun to experiment - After a few hard races, we sometimes switch off ABS, set the rule that you must left-foot brake (for those with wheels) and then sit and laugh at ourselves as we try to get round the track in a semi-respectable time.

If you really do feel strongly about always allowing all driving aids then I really hope you contacted PD about the Academy as very few driving aids were allowed during that, and it's certain that very few will be allowed on the cars that the finalists drive.

Unfortunately, it is not a story. I really wish it was one though. Concerning the Academy, however, I know that they are becoming real life race drivers, so I can't do anything about it. They are gonna not be able to use them in real racing.

I used to use all of the aids until I got my wheel.it took me a lot of practice to get used to driving my cars with my wheel.then I was using no aids except for abs.then I have to be more careful with the throttle when I was driving very powerful cars.but now,I'm a little bit of a pro driver because there is a lot of drivers thats faster then me.but still,I'm a really good driver

I say live and let live.If you want to use them then have at it.Just enjoy the game. But if you turn SRF off. You'l probably want to get a good tune for the car your using. And that's where Gt5 comes to life.A good tune will eliminate a lot of the issues with no SRF.

The game is much more fun without the assists.
Also, most of the time you are slower with them.
No point of using them if you want to play GT5 for a long time.

The part you fixed is right [for you], but the second sentence is also very much correct ;) :)

Additionally; If you want to see the overall interest for drive aids on, start a room and see how long it takes to either fill up with knobheads who cannot drive through a corner or people who outdrive you by selecting to turn the aid/s off ;)

P.S: You forgot the green font :p

Nor if you want any of the skill you develop in GT5 to transfer to your road car.

That said, driving aids are grand as you find your feet in GT5, but if you want to view GT5 as a simulation then the aids, especially SRF, should be abandoned. It's like taking the training wheels off a bike or gettings rid of the bumper rails at the bowling alley. I still use driving line when I'm unfamiliar with the track or if I'm driving a very powerful car (I tend to stick to the mid to low range).

If you want to treat the game like Ridge Racer or Outrun, then by all means keep the aids on, but you will find it hard to find people to race with. And trying to force your opinion on others will simply turn them away from you even faster. PD made a game for everyone and made it so you could set many different parameters for your racing. If GT5 was meant to be played with driving aids on, PD wouldn't allow you to switch them off.

That there is a bit of a stretch.

EDIT: re. GT5 = road car

:guilty: It is a bit, but I was thinking of unrealistic views of grip levels and car handling, especially if your real-life car is in GT5.

Well, I can't really do that because whenever I do make a room, nobody ever joins. I'm lucky to even have 2 people join. Also, this assuming that everyone who uses aids really needs to stop because I personally know how to drive clean and I'm very respectful.

PS: Thanks for letting me know, I was still half asleep when I posted it.

@ otakukid96 ... and anybody really.

Sometimes it pays to compromise a bit.

I've had to compromise and give in a bit to popular interests to find racing pals. I won't do racing I don't like, obviously. But while there's things that don't matter to me, or things I'd prefer... Sometimes it's better to know what battles to pick or when to stand firm, and when to be a bit flexible, in order to have fun with other humans. ;)

I fear that on the internet in general... and certainly applying to this forum, or any other... Too many times people have a mindset of "you're either with me or against me", with no middle ground to be seen. As if any differing of opinion, preference, or way about things, is seen and treated as a threat.

It doesn't have to be that way.

While I think that some people might take things in gt5 more than a tad too seriously. I mean the people who think they're the only ones who should play, with the top equipment, and believing that they're just like a real racer because they're not using aids or they're really fast... and everyone else is somehow the weird ones. When clearly, that's NOT the norm. It's rather lopsided in the balance department, because the fact is that most people don't devote bundles of money, bundles of time, and bundles of space, to playing gt5.

OTOH... to begrudge people who may have the resources, time, and/or inclination to become good enough with gt5 to want to turn the aids off, and get the fullest version of "real" that the game has to offer...
Well that's not reasonable either to deny others their pleasure, which the game offers.

But I think I can explain the connection between aids off and fair play...
It's NOT that there are not fair racing clean players who race with driving aids.
There are, and probably many.
But there's 2 issues:
1) They're usually people who don't play all that often, and therefore probably can't get together with like minded people as often... so they have a harder time finding each other.
and
2) It's harder to police it and get to know who's like minded without wasting a lot of time with those who are NOT like minded.

The reason for #2, sadly, is because the driving aids and assists are too vulnerable to exploitation by savvy gamers who are not interested in a casual but proper & fair racing experience.
You put on SRF, and there's the yahoo that uses it to drive recklessly & still get ahead.
Boost is the biggest tragedy... in theory it should allow players of different ability & experience to have close fun races together... But then there's always the turkey who will exploit it, get a boost on to go bang bang! :boggled:

And what's more is that even casual racers, if they give it a chance... will often find that if they stick to certain genres of cars... don't really need the aids to maintain control of their cars & have a fun gt5 experience.

That's why I do "Lo PP Shuffle". Aids off (except ABS & driving line).
LOTS of people can be competitive as well as CLEAN AND FAIR... in the lower power cars. No, they don't handle as well as a GT300, and they don't go as fast for sure. But it's a way that those of us who are NOT alien fast, and don't have gobs of time or patience to be practicing & practicing or tuning & tuning... can have fun, competitive, and clean fair races without aids, and a "handicap" system that's pretty fun, not really exploitable, and doesn't punish you for being cautious (like boost  :boggled:)... and yet drive some very interesting road cars with a lot of character.
Not everyone's cup of tea, and it doesn't have to be.

But I'm not plugging my races (as they're usually full and I have no need to advertise). I'm just using this as an example. I'm not the only game in town. There are plenty of good hosts & organizers out there with a wide variety of aids or no aids, or the kind of cars you like to drive and can do well in...

The bottom line is - when you meet those other racers... Don't pooh-pooh one thing about their races you're skeptical about. Don't look for what they're doing that you don't like. Figure out if you like MOST of what they're doing, and consider compromising, & give it a chance.
Like maybe they ban SRF, but allow the other aids?
Or maybe they allow just TC, but they race nicely handling performance cars...
You might find out eventually that you like all the settings they propose in the end!
But you'll never find out if you aren't willing to step out of the comfort zone and compromise a bit.
