the following has happend to me twice now in b-spec

in dreamcar championship, seemingly after the race has ended the game won't go on to the prize screens, doesn't respond to the DS-controller or anything, tried another one, no go either.
pushed the PS butten and the normal menu comes up, pushed it again and i'm back in the game with the same problems.
so I try to exit the game (pS button) the screen goes black, the PS 3 beeps and the I have to turn it off manually for it to respond.
No lights are shopwing at this point.

my PS is a Phat 60Gb, and it seemt to me the fault only occurs after running the championship a few times...(heat related?)

anubody her know what's up?
 
It's happened to me two times... i don't know what is it

No wait, it's a little different, in my case the ps3 turn off after the beep, and i see the red light.
 
I've had GT5 freeze a few times lately - mainly since update 1.06. I've not been able to do a thing other than Quit the game or sometimes even just turn off the PS3. It's getting worrying.
 
just happened again, after a right cooldown, couldn't get past the monza loading screen.
 
There is alot of reballing services offered on ebay and around the web u just have to do a lil research to find the reputable service shops. I suggest starting with the playstion forums i kno this guy offers a lifetime warranty and has alot of good feedback but his ad has expired i sent a question to him awaiting a response my friend just got it and was going to try this guy will let u know how it goes.

and good thing about getting a reball by a reputable source will be the leaded solder which will outlast the ps3...unleaded solder is why this is happening in the first place, a bad way for sony to save money tbh....if u send it back to sony they will just give u another board with the same cheap solder so it can happen again

I don´t think is the PS3. Probably the game just glitching. It has happend to me twice since I got the game on December, but ussually a reset fixes the problem. Too bad if you loose the progress, though... OUCH! I have a 40gig PS3, and works as great as a new slim that a friend of mine has. He has had that freezing as well, btw...
 
The OP has the almost identical issue I have seen once so far. Dream Championship, froze at the end when I should get my $400K. Phat 60GB PS3 also... Turned it off and has been fine for the last few days... (didn't get the $00K though...)

My ps3 YLOD on me last weekend. I was in the middle of a race and then it just shut off on me and would freeze/crash before the XMB even finished loading and eventually got the point where it would only power up long enough to go green light yellow light red light, maybe about 2 seconds worth. Previously it had full shutdown/crashed on me one time the week before, gues it was a sign of things to come. Gamestop gave me 130 for it -$25 for being broken and I picked up a 160 slim with a free copy of killzone 3 wewt! My 60 had been used regularly for the last 4 or so years and there was a good bit of dust in the case. I actually had to rip open the blueray drive to get my disc out.
 
The YLOD starts with a warning. You'll play and it will shut off on it's own. And will then flash red. If you get that keep it off. That's your warning it's too hot. If you continue to play BACKUP IMMEDIATELY, you should get one more warning. Hopefully giving you enough time to backup. The 3rd time it goes Yellow. I have 3 of these. Buy a slim the first chAnce you get!
 
so it seems to be tha game glitching then......phew...

Any good sites with cooling mods for the PS3
 
Just regular servicing will help. You will probably find a servicing schedule somewhere from Sony that will probably say every 12 months the case has to be opened and a dust out And renewing heat sink material is essential. The only problem I have had is a laser burning out on my first 40gb fat
 
Yes dust is a problem. NEVER use a can because you'll get dust stuck in the heatsinks and keep the dust in. ONLY use a vacuum to actually get the dust out
 
Yeah should probably vaccum out some of that dust, and keeping it as cool as possible is another surefire way to longevity. Though I haven't vaccumed out my PS3 since I bought it, I do keep it right under its own fan that blows in fresh air from outside. I keep my room pretty ****in cold by preference but its also benefitial for all my elecontronics.

BTW I have the 80gig PS3 that plays PS2 games. Had it for nearly 3 years now and still haven't had any problems. Solid machine. It tackles GT5 vallantly, I rarely even hear it kick on the fans.
 
All those 24-hour endurances have finally caught up to your system :indiff:
 
Just a warning, vacuums can create static. The best type to use would be a compressed air powered vacuum because it does not utilize an electric motor to create negative pressure. They are relatively cheap as well.
 
I had the same issue twice with a B-spec endurance race. I think it's related to a connection request to the servers when you leave a race. I started switching the network off before long races and it never happened again.

I got the YLOD on the weekend, was in a race and it just froze and shut off,, had a few freeze-ups a few weeks leading up to it.
My options were,
1.send it off to get fixed--$150~$200 and 2 weeks wait.

2.Buy a new machine(not sure if I could swap over HDD to save all data)$500

3.Buy a heat-gun $75 and some heat sink compound $15 and attempt a self fix.

I took option 3 and followed Gilksy`s tutorial on youtube and had it fixed and back from the dead the same day.

It`s worth giving it a shot even if it only last anther 6 months, I can now look at saving allmy data to an extenal HDD ready to transfer to a slimline when the time comes.

Edit:The heat sink compound applied by sony was rather second rate- full of air bubbles and hanging over the edges of the heat sinks,, a mess really.

Sounds more like a bug rather than YLOD. If you got YLOD you would notice.
 
I have 2 ps3's a 60gb (YLOD'ed/fixed) and the GT5 Bundle 320GB = the PS3 with the latest hardware revision + just 3 months old.
I play GT5 to the Slim PS3 and i have faced this problem more than 4-5 times from day 1.
Its a software issue, nothing to worry about.

btw...the YLOD is like a heavy stroke, one and you are out.
There's no symptoms before getting it, unless you haven't ever cleaned it and it sounds like a jet.
 
Sounds like just a general lockup, which happens. From the way I understand the YLOD, there is no leadup. It dies, and it happens instantly without warning. Happened to my old system, twice.

Since then, I haven't had any marathon gaming stretches. Overheating, or imbalanced heating, appears to be what killed mine.
 
I think it might be related to the bluray drive.

It happenend again yesterday while running GT academy, I was running for about 12 laps, wanted to exit the run, pushed the start button an the game paused, but no menu came up.
exited the game through the PS button, and the screen went black again.
rebooted the PS3 and it didn't recognize the disc, put another disc in, and it took a while to recognize that one, the put GT5 back in.
It started up normally, but when I went to GT mode it didn't want to load....:guilty:
 
I had this sort of problem a bit since the 1.07 patch but it is when i try to enter a race, I press the start race button and the menu of options disappears but nothing else happens and it just stays that way indefinately. Using the PS button to quit the game only causes a blank screen. I have no idea how to stop it and it worries me that it might keep happening.
 
that sounds exactly like what happens to me!

what type of PS3 do you have?
 
I have one of the 'fat' 80gb consoles but not compatible with PS2 games.
 
Same problem here ... yesterday was the first time a freezing bug happened , after playing only GT5 for the last three weeks without any hiccup. It happened when I finished the B-SPEC Japanese Championship event. Wanting to return to the home screen, the game stuck on the silver GT logo.

Quit the game via Home button on the controller back to the XMB. Restarted the game only to see it hanging this time on the GT opening logo. Almost freaked out since this is the only time I had any game freeze except for the infamous-for-freezing Heavy Rain. Quit again, backed up the game save immediately which funny enough had the money I just won added and restarted again.

This time I was patient with the loading screen which eventually showed me the message Connection error, ''a connection with the server could not be established'' but finally took me to the Selection screen, only this time with no pointer showing up. Back to XMB again, delete savegame thinking it might be corrupt .. starting new, got to GT Life homescreen this time without issues.

- Backup savegame, reload game again
- Everything fine this time, until I see the preview picture for half of my cars in the garage is gone this time. ... ?????

I read if you are connected to the PSN a lot of offline play is still affected by the connection to their server, but I thought this was fixed in already the first patch released? I might also continue playing with the Ethernet cable disconnected

Similar issues anyone? Even after patch 1.07 this game seems still quite buggy

This is exactly what has happened to my 40gb yesterday!

Finished an online race but my screen stayed on the track instead of going to the rewards page afterwards. I could still speak with everyone else and my xmb seemed to function so I exited the game and then it froze on a black screen.

I shut it off manually and restarted it but it wouldn't recognize my disk. I did a system reset and everything was fine again. Boot up the game, try to load gt life and it freezes again. :(

My PS3 had similar issues - it would get stuck at a point and I'd have to do a hard restart, decided it was an issue with the game data and reinstalled it, at which point the problem went away.
Then it came back shortly before my HDD died and as it was back when we couldn't back up the save game I had to start from the beginning again, on the plus side I now have a 500gb phat PS3 that runs quieter and cooler than it did before.

I'm not saying that your HDD is about to fail but it is a warning sign for a potential issue so backup all data you don't want to lose.
 
My ps3 freezes after pause in middle of Le Mans 24 hours. After more of 9 hours of play. grrrrr
