NASCAR is weird then!

Historically in all other motorsports, a yellow flag is displayed to denote an accident in the area and pass with caution. Extreme caution if the yellow is waved.

A blue flag is usually shown to slower cars to indicate a faster car is about to pass them (typically done for backmarkers when they're being lapped)

I grew up close to Oulton Park circuit in England and spent many many weekends watching the racing there. This was always the flag code they use. :)

hey, smallhorses - where were you from then? Oulton is less than ten miles from where I live

I always found the first turn(s) on Apricot hill to be a bad one for the AI too - lots of tyre smoke and cars off into the sand, or not being able to stop and slamming me wide and off, halfway round the corner

This is the way NASCAR runs their flagging system as well - though I bet a number of users here will still say NASCAR is weird anyway. In NASCAR they do have a higher tendency to pull out a full-course Yellow (except maybe on the road courses) rather than letting individual marshalls put out a local Yellow. This stems from most of the tracks being ovals, of course.

Passing for position is prohibited under Yellow, though it is possible to get back on the lead lap if you don't alter your track position. Also, there are rules about when pits are opened and closed during Yellow.

Leading into turn one on special stage route 11 and all the AI just come attacking me like i'm the minnow and they are the shark. I sure got mulched.

My best is when I chose the RX7 LM with tweaked gears to the test course. It's always a terrific fight to the finish. I usually win by about .01-.05 of a second, with the occasional .00x. Makes for some exciting racing and great replays.

Well, I don't really highly regard NASCAR as out of preference i'd find watching paint dry more interesting. Consequently i dont know much about it other than its many many miles of going round in circles. I suppose the super speedway enduro is a nascar race... Explains my boredom exactly!!

I know it well, one of my mates is from Sandiway. I live in Warrington (also right on the A49) - so how come the transAtlantic jaunt, what you doing over there now?

Playing GT3 of course!
Small world isn't it?
Read my profile, and this PD CUP in a 300ZX TwinTurbo 2by2 as there's a few things I mentioned to Famine about the pond-hopping in there. :p

very small...... I see. I would love to move to California, but until such time as my band is a platinum-selling act and I can move in next door to Mr Osbourne, it ain't gonna happen, unfortunately. How's it working out for you, are you liking the lifestyle? Apart from the guaranteed birthday day off, of course!!

i was racing the enduro Super Speedway circuit with the Oreca Viper. While approaching the pit lane all I could see was one of my opponents driving into the wall dividing the pit lane and straight. This went on for about five laps so I lost my patience and ramed him out of his
predicament. How bad can the A.I. get?

Worse than that. It sometimes happens more than once and a blockade forms.  I pray the AI are finally sorted out in GT4, as that's what has been causing the delays apparently.

From the vids I saw, I don't expect GT4 AI to be more clever than GT3's.:(

That's depressing, I was hoping they would drive more realistically. At least in GT4 you can go online and drive against other 'real' drivers, mind you there I might be worse than the 'AI'!!!:banghead:

I join you in that prayer.

Look, bud. What we have to remember here is that the previous shown versions of GT4 (Prologue, E3 etc.) DO NOT feature the upgraded AI that will ship with the new game, as it is THIS SOLE FEATURE that has been most prolonging the game's release, and even now is still not finished. So how can you tell?

When I had my Gameshark and had the no tire wear code, one or two of the cars would just zoom into outer space at (in the replay) a couple billion MPH

P001, one more reason: liscensing rights (again) :grumpy:

I know this is the GT 3 forum but i must say that GT 4 rocks. I was most fortunate to play the New York, Grand canion and some old French style circuits. I can't wait for autumn
BRING IT ON !!!

Geez, the Laguna Seca "AI" is atrocious. I remember, I was on the last lap at the Laguna Seca Enduro, at the last corner, and one of the cars rams me just right, spinning me into the sand trap, while another rocketed ahead to the finish line, leaving me in 2nd.And that mistake isn't just on that corner, or even that course. It always seems that when I try to brake in time for the corner, someone will ram me in the side or back.
Naturally, I get my revenge. I use "bumper cars". When my opponent goes to turn, I brake slightly, and slam into the side of him, planting him into the wall, and giving me the upper hand. :)
Back on topic, hasn't the Laguna Seca's AI always been moronic? I remember in GT2, I was racing at LS and by the Corkscrew I'm about 3 and 1/2 seconds down. And, just my luck, the other five cars managed to screw up, and they all spun at the corkscrew. It happened every lap........ You'd think they'd learn after about 15 minutes of racing.

I know that a computer cannot learn. I'm just stating that it is pretty dumb for all of the drivers to mess up......at the same place.....every lap........they should at least be programmed to take a slightly different path each time, not mess up every time. Although, seeing as it is "Artificial Intelligence", they should learn. Having intelligence means to learn from your mistakes, among other things.

by applying itself and trying hard! *joking*

Anyway, just now, I was running the BL Audi TT race thing and on Cote D'Azur after the long tunnel on the back side where it empties out with a 90 degree turn, the next lil turn right after that (like a 35 degree or so) one of the AI's got stuck in that corner, even though it doesn't seem deep enough to catch someone, til another AI knocked him out.

One time back on GT (the original!) I was racing on the "Deep Forest" track and in that BIG curve, you know the one with all the yellow line paterns and etc, and I was mad and was being beaten by this car (can't remember what now) cuz it kept outdoing me in the curves but I could outdo them in the straight. Anyway, I got mad and used that straight to ram him as he took the curve and he got stuck up there, like in the wall. He was still racing the right way, but never could move. Not really the AI, but just an interesting occurance

I was running Test Course in the middle of one of the Championship races (sorry, can't remember which one now) and I was loosing to the Viper due to poor gear selection. Saw the "Viper pitting" sign come up and I thought my chance had come. Next lap...."Viper pitting" came up again. Eh? I thought - I don't remember there being two Vipers in the race. Won the race and checked the replay. After five laps the Viper came in with bright red tyres.....and drove straight through the pits (on the limiter) and back out again!!! Next lap he came in again but this time stopped. He did the same thing on Laps 10 and 11 as well. Talk about bizzare AI!! On second thoughts - perhaps he got a couple of "drive through" penalties for ramming me up the a**e trying to get past me :)

one of the best AI moments i've had was on the trial mountain enduro w/ the stock cars. I was in a r32 and my tires were a lil worn, and i was bored so i drifted into the turn and the r34 i'd lapped was ahead of me on the striaght and on the next turn i got on the breaks a lil late and passed him and went to the outside a little to soon and he repassed me but spun out at the exit of the turn and i barely missed him. I dunno, it was pretty funny to me. to me it seems the AI just doesnt push hard enough, but it is interesting to see them oversteering once in a while and even rarer spinning out

also.. has anyone else noticed the AI cant drive w/ sim tires worth a dam unless the car is 4wd.

Racing at Lagune Seca, on the Corkscrew, Beginner League, Stars and Stripes Cup, and I had a great AI moment, rather than a bad AI moment.

Me and another car, I think it was Viper, touched, and it span out in front of me. Anyway, it looked really cool, it span acorss the road in front of me, banged into the barrier and rolled back across the road, again in front of me, and it just loooked so realistic - really cool.

With the tyre smoke effects in GT3 and eveything, it was just a really classy AI moment.

I haven't seen any cars getting stuck or anything yet, but the AI is bad in terms of just driving into you rather than passing.

At Laguna Seca for Amature Leauge, the Shelby Cobra always spins out in the second turn and finally gets it on the last laps. :dunce:

Heh, speaking of Laguna Seca, in Amaetur American Challenge, the Cobra almost reliably overshoots turn 1 and spins out on the corkscrew. The F-4's and C4 do it a lot too

yeah I think the Cobra in beginner league is stock everything, settings and parts, and plus the AI is "easier" so its kinda like a brick... I'm still lookin forward to gettin the Cobra.

I had a person (can't remember what) spin out in front of me on the AL Stars and Stripes Laguna Seca race in the corkscrew and I just like speared them cuz I was like .5 behind him... I didn't seem him again for the rest of the race, and that was like the 1st or 2nd lap

I think it's very amusing to watch the game try to contol a hybrid car you make. Using MK's i have the Acura 3.2 CL type S hybrid car, i think by epic, and when i go into the race with the yellow buttons before you start you see the screen where the car is driving by the CPU. It spins the car so much!!

P001, one more reason: liscensing rights (again)

I thought they'd finished with acquiring licenses? Apparently, almost all the cars are done already. All 620 or so of them.

Does anyone here seriously race using simulation tyres????

Well, if they could 'learn', don't forget that's one more task to pile on top of the slow PS2 chip.

But seriously, though Jalpa, the AI aren't any less intelligent at any particular course, they are just not very good, and when they get to a difficult corner, regardless of the track, they will fall foul.

There, all those quotes without a double post!! <winks at mod>
