There's one thing you have to know about .gif and .png. GIF uses binary transparancy and PNG uses alpha transparency. Binary? Alpha? What? Binary only has one form of transparency, and that's fully transparent. Alpha allows you to have a variable opacity, meaning you can have 20%, 32%, 77%, 92%, etc transparency. Also, I'm not getting Firefox, or whatever other programs people try to get me to use. Why don't you just make it .gif?
PNG > GIF, just like Firefox > IE.
