What an interesting mid-point to the week! We had both the North American thread and the German thread end with very interesting results, the final German results still pending (if you haven't voted, VOTE NOW!). This thread and the Italian one will be the last two nomination/voting nations to get through before we start doing the car v car showdowns. However, this thread being a bit more "vague" than the others, let me make a few clarifications:

- The "world" title is just that... These cars the cars (or trucks) that come from those little corners of the globe that would otherwise not deserve a thread
- Obviously, the car has to be in production as a 2008 or 2009 model
- The following countries (obviously) are included:

  • Sweden
  • Netherlands
  • Spain
  • The Czech Republic
  • Russia
  • India
  • Malaysia
  • Australia
  • South Korea

...etc...

This is going to make for some interesting nominations that will likely have some very interesting results. If you think of a car outside of those countries, great! But, those are just the "big" ones there. We've got a couple of days worth of nominations, so, feel free to think about it if you need to.

==========

For 2008 Best "World" Car, YSSMAN Nominates:

The Saab 9-3 TurboX SportCombi

Okay, lets get this out first... This was a very hard choice to make, but GM things aside, I can't think of a better (and oddly more-quirky) car to bring to the fold. Yes, its expensive... Maybe a little too expensive. Yes, it only comes in black... But what other color would you want? Oh, and yes, it is a wagon... The sedan just isn't "cool" enough for me.

Lets consider the facts:

- 280 BHP Turbocharged V6
- Haldex 4.0 AWD system that Saab calls "Cross Wheel Drive" (or XWD) that does some fancy trickery to keep the car kicking-ass.
- Its hyper-rare (only 600 are coming to the US, I hear they are already sold out)

The look, the performance, and the rarity make it the choice for me.

I'm going to be patriotic and nominate the Holden Commodore Sportwagon. What can I say? It's a car which can go and you can fit a whole family in it.

The Volvo XC70 - the versatility of an estate, better offroad capabilities than the average SUV and powered either with a 3.2 litre petrol V6 or a 2.5 litre diesel inline 5. On top of that it still has the ride quality of the other big Volvos and looks equally good parked in front of a fine restaurant as it does in the woods half covered with mud. If I had the money to buy a brand new car of my choice that's what I would get.

Urgh, do you have to mentioned that?

Anyhow, if you insist then there is a car that would (probably) qualify for a nomination.

Proton Satria Neo R3

Well other than its just another hatchback, it is built 100% in Malaysia (although it was not the first car to be built) and could (theoretically) compete with the Golf, Mazda 2, etc. Also, it was really cheap for our marked and almost was a popular hatchback to buy here. :) Don't know what else to say about it though...... :guilty:

Edit: Okay, the CCXR wins this thread. The. End.

 I didn't expect to kill the thread

Hmm, gee, I wonder what car I think is the greatest in the rest of the world right now......

Duh, a 500hp hand built LS7 makes for one of the most super sedans in the world right now, and is even more rare than YSS's Saab as only 427 are being built (as a nod to the displacement, how cool!). The looks are kick ass too, that front end makes it look like the car won't even bother overtaking, it will eat you whole in one snarling snort of the V8 under the hood. Everything has been tweaked to make it better than the GTS, including better tyres, bigger brakes, more durable drivetrain, and yes, that lip spoiler is quite functional.

PS- Bonus points to someone who nominates the Genesis Coupé.

I'll go a different route, fairly sure this thing is coming out next year at the latest. Not fast, not glamorous, (probably) not safe, but it could, and probably will, open up the four wheeled world to a massive massive new group.

Seconded 👍

Whatever the reasonably priced Holden 4 door is right now... :sly:
Just can't beat RWD, power, and relatively cheap prices.
Someone else can pick out the details. :D

China has quickly become an automotive power with more than enough brands to make their country worthy of an entire thread. Considering that the Aussies really only have two brands, same with the Swedish... All while everyone else soldiers on with one here and there, that's why we have this one.

BTW: The Commodore variants will likely just use the "Commodore" name when we vote...

Part of me says to nominate the Dacia Sandero...However, then this thing came to my mind...

ktm-x-bow.jpg

KTM X-Bow

I mean seriously!! Just look at this thing! It's one of the best motorbike/car crossovers ever built and the best thing is, it's avaiable to buy now and being produced. This car is a pure track based machine, much like the Caterham Super 7 nominated in the British thread but perhaps more intresting and more innotive. Yes, it doesn't have a boot, or back seats or air conditioning or anything else you can think of. But at a bargain price of £37,189 for a track honed machine its brilliant. I hope others can see this, other than thinking it's a bike with four wheels...

A bargain price compared to a Caparo T1 perhaps, but an Atom is a better drive (so I've read) and alot cheaper.

Not by much, the Atom is only £30,000 in comparison. I've also read the KTM is a good drive, the only real way to tell is to have both on a track (Where they live) and do direct comparison. As both being people with the lack of a driving license I don't feel as though I can comment too much on how either of the cars feel or handle when in the driving seat.

Volvo C30, described as the adult's version of the MINI Cooper S.

SEAT Leon Cupra or the Cupra K1 as above(K1 top 3 pics).

240hp downrated audi S3 engined, golf GTI chassied car, with bigger brakes and better suspension. One remap takes it up to 305hp. One remap, nex exhaust system and upgraded fuel pump sees 355hp.

Available with a TV and satnav with phone integration into the screen.

All to be had for £18,000. Show me a vehicle where you get more car for your money.

Other than any Korean MPV?

And speaking of Korean, I'll go for the C'eed, unexpectedly put the frightners on class leaders and showed the thunderous rate at which the Koreans are advancing.
It's not a 1000+hp hypercar, but it's still a damn good buy.

who makes the i30? Thats a good car. Just realised the last pic of the leon I posted is a FR not a cupra lol.

Hyundai, but the i10 is even better still, another great Korean motor.👍

Bit of a shame they cover the steering wheel in sandpaper, really. The rest of it's a pretty reasonable car.

Sexy, just oh so sexy. The best thing ever to come out of Asia in terms of looks excluding Japan. (Sorry but I love my Japanese cars almost as much as Holden loves... well his Holdens :sly:)

n0w kan i haz doos tenn po1ntz?

I was patiently waiting for someone (other than Neanderthal, in another thread) to bring up the Genesis...

The coupe will be as a 2009 model, but the sedan is already available (I haven't seen one, yet...), and still pretty much up for nomination as well.

BTW: The Commodore variants will likely just use the "Commodore" name when we vote...

Really, will that include the HSVs and W427?
