Let's see what GTP thinks is the best car shape.

You can base it on anything you like, eg. Coupe just because it looks good, or Wagon just because it can carry alot, ect.

But when I consider a shape it has to do, both of those things well, basically everything else well too, even if not the best.

I'll leave my opinions on various types of cars out of it for now, except I'll cast my vote on my favourite - should be interesting to see what others say.

If I missed a vital shape, please list it, I nearly forgot SUV (not that I expect it to get many votes), I don't know if I can ammend the poll with more options?

It's not about the shape itself. It's how the car company makes the shape itself.

I like the look of a Coupé, I dunno why, it just looks right. Though I agree with C-ZETA, I usually hate estates, but I really like the RS6 Avant, it's just how the company uses the shape.

Yeah appreciate the contribution there...........................................

Well, actually it isn't, that's a different thread, probably something called 'Best car manufacturer', so, for this thread, if you people could vote for their favourite shape across 'every' manufacturer, then we could get some conversation going.

Again, different thread.

Also, bump, hopefully we'll get someone actually using this thread for why I made it, instead of voting 'other' than not suggesting anything tangible.

Station wagon/estate all the way. :sly: By the way, if people who think I like it because of it's practicality...wrong!

Tell me the 159 Sportwagon isn't pretty. I dare you... :trouble:

Unfortunately, these days, coupes are all too common. Always ending up to be just a sedan with the rear seats chopped off... (Focus, Civic, etc.) The U.S. obsession with coupes have been killing me for a long time. We need to bring back the hatchbacks! (Which is happening, but slowly) I do agree with Celicaas, crossovers need to die off.

All types of car bodies are good. Maybe except crossovers and some useless SUVs. But if I would have to choose only one, it would probably be a wagon. They're both practical and as MedigoFlame said, they can look dangly awesome.

You forgot fastback. I'm torn between truck and fastback. Since fastback isn't in there I'm going with truck.

This, but not in coupe form... or at least not by the door count.
Fastback "sedan" is my pick; the CLS and the A7 are the best looking body style in my opinion.

Saloon cars (or sedans), or 2 door sedan-esque coupes, such as the BMW 3 series (although the E9x generation coupes were a bigger step from the 4 door than ever before)

Generally speaking: I don't like estates that much, I dislike convertibles and I despise Hatchbacks.

How do you not like this..?

Technically that's an estate/tourer isn't it?

But since you ask, the A3 sportback looks like a badly and thoughtlessy thrown together version of the normal A3 which doesn't compliment it's massive ass.. it's also one of Audi's worst designs upfront, ignoring for a moment the massively dull and played out Audi fat-kid gaping guppy mouth and the silly christmas tree lookin' angry and tired head lamps. Also the silly silver bits on the RS version look silly.

... I should also point out I hate Audi more than hatchbacks...

In the interests of appearing less irrational, I'm going to try and come up with a hatchback I do like....

umm...

Jesus.. How about a GTI? Gotta love those yes?

The 04 Sportback looked superb, the facelifted version with big S-Line/S/RS bumpers, LED head- and tail lights etc not so much.. Worst facelift ever..

On subject I gotta say I love two-door sedans/notchbacks. Some will wrongly call 'em coupes.. For instance old Corollas, Jettas, Type Threes, old Opels etc, they look amazing.. And a two-door Nissan S13 compared to a three-door coupe version, I know what I would drive.

Not especially, I'm sure - as with the RS3 - it performs very well, and some people may need the practicality, but the shape of a hatchback doesn't work for me at all. I've had a hatchback, a fastback, a tourer, two coupes, and three saloons... and although more loadspace is 'handy' sometimes, I've never been caught short (unless you count renting vans to shift beds and wardrobes).

Also, I'm massively underwhelmed by my friends Mk2 GTi.

Ah well. I won't list any more examples, pretty obvious you don't like em lol. I could care less about the practicaliy, they actually look good to me so I like them. To each their own then huh 👍

The best shape of automotive history isn'trepresented in the poll: The teardrop.

Bar the cab and the last one, I think they all look like ****..

Then again it's just personal opinion..

Hmm, as far as I can tell, fastback is just a particular type of coupe?

Each to their own, it is a strange thing to 'despise' them though, I could list countless examples, but it sounds like you take issue with the general shape...

Nope thats a classic hatchback. The equivilent Golf GTI (MkV/MkVI) looks brilliant I believe, especially the Golf R as well. Alfa 147, Fiat 500, Mini Cooper S (original, pre-germany), Peugeot 205 GTI, just to name a few ones you might like, Scirroco and Megan 250 don't count as they are really Coupe FFs. My car for example (306 Phase III) to me looks like a 406 Coupe, but in hatch form (my father owned a 406 coupe, so I do have some background on that claim). Anyway.

Notchbacks... I know they come in Coupe and Sedan format, the only one I really like, that I can think of, is the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA *checks* does it count?

Also, to the guy who did a million teardrop picutres, I think one was enough, and also, most of them seemed to be coupes to me anyway, excuding the non-roofed one.

Everyone likes coupes because their sporty, buy wagons have to be the coolest looking cars, especially performance variants of them. They just scream fast.

I still tend to work off a definition as follows: If a 5 door hatch-back has a c & d pillar - each with a distinct top/bottom/start/end, then it's an estate. Which the Audi A3 sportback falls into.

You'll need to seriously re-address that as your simply wrong. A3 is a hatchback, end of story. Volkswagen Golf make an 'estate' version, go research that to get a bit of an education, hatchbacks and estates aren't the same, and furthermore, they are EASILY identifiable as separate types of cars, not to be confused by the well informed.
