http://www.goodcans.com/HeadphoneReviews/recommendations.htm awesome site for headphone reviews. I own a pair of koss portapros and their awesome. Spend $50, they do look like their from the 80's(which I think they are). But that doesn't bother me. Even has little switches to make it more firm or soft or something like that. But I think they even said the sr60's are the best bargain out there. Yes they don't look the greatest, but your not gonna look all that good either way with headphones on.

Stinky Chicken
Good idea. 👍

And why "zoxxy"? What's a zoxxy?
Haha, I would like to ask the same to you! (Altough, I know what a stinky chicken is).
To make a long story short, it's two names chopped and glued together.

By the way, thanks to everyone who posted prices along with the choice of headphones :)

I'm using Sony Fontopia Earbud headphones. MDR-EX71. They are awesome with MiniDisc, and really eliminate all the iPod shortcomings in the sound quality department. Of course, coming as they do with a black cable, they also don't advertise to the local scrotes that you have an iPod. ;)

I've got the same pair 👍. I'm currently saving to upgrade to the Shure e3c plugs.

Sorry I ignored this thread for so long guys, I started it and then went on vacation to Mexico....as stated earlier the Grado SR-60's cost $69 on audioadvisor.com. I will say that they leak sound like a siv because they are open-air headphones, but that also allows them to respond to a great range of frequencies. I used these headphones on the plane to and from mexico and I don't think anyone minded even when they were on at full volume - at least nobody complained to me about them. I don't think I can play them that loud when I am studying at the library, but I will be using them for GT4 for sure!

I have used a lot of headphones before, and I have never been able to tell that eric clapton is tapping his foot in the song "motherless child" untill I listened to the song with my grados. One day when I have $700 to burn I will buy a pair of RS-1's from grado and I will be in heaven.

P.S. I like the old-school look of the grados (THEY COULD HAVE USED A BETTER MODEL):

I plan on picking up some of those on tuesday. emad suggested them. I bought some Sennheiser HD-457s today and I am not impressed by the flimsy construction. They're very comfortable and sound better than my computer speakers, but they just feel cheap. I'm a bit nervous with stuffing those things in my ear canal, though! :scared: These'll be much more discrete, though. :sly: Also, I can be more mobile with them, I hear.

I'm gonna be getting some Bose Triports tomorrow, I will post my review of them then.

those headphones are way overrated. you can get better sound out of senns or others for less money.

i love my hd457s. the sound advice over here has a pair of HD600's. those are just wicked.

Sennheiser Hd535's 👍 Well i think that is the model name :indiff: Superb sound quality and velvet ear covers make em :)

Just remember: when you get the bass, it's time to stop pushing!

2 reasons for that
1) you can go deaf if you push it too hard. My iriver can turn them into frickin speakers because of how loud they can get
2) rediculously high bass and sealed headphones = earache

Not necessarily. The Triports offer superior bass compared to many other headphones that are priced similarily (Sennheiser, Sony, and others). Yes, other headphones do offer more crisp sound, but the Triports work great for me.

Although, the main reason I like the Triports is because they are very comfortable. The padding has a near perfect fit, and really helps block outside noise. They are also extremely light, although that is partly due to their flimsy construction, which makes me weary of taking them outside of the house. But of course, lightweight means more comfort, so it's a tradeoff.

I gots me a pair of SR80s and they're fantastic. I need to get an amp to really make 'em great. Still, there are much better headphones out there, but for 80 bucks they're the best I've heard. Reviewers tend to agree.

I got a pair of MDR-EX51s for Christmas and they're very good. I'd rather have gotten the 71s that Giles has, though.

I'd love to get a pair of these, but sadly I don't have a grand to spend on headphones.

oh really?

i tried them at the bose outlet store at sawgrass mills, and they had next to no bass. this could've (probably was) the rio cd player's fault. they are better than the sonys i have tried though...only problem is that they are way expensive.

i'll have to go back and test them with my own cd player (if that is possible)

It is definitley you CD player's fault. I tried the Triports directly against other headphones (hooked up to a good sound system I should add) and it was by far the best in terms of bass, unless you wanted to climb into nearly double the price range. I'm very satisfied with my headphones. Van Halen never sounded so good!

I didn't want to revive an old thread, but I thought I should as this has a lot of good info already.

Anyway, I wanted to announce that I just purchased a pair of HD650's. It's my birthday on the 30th, and all the money I get will be for filling the hole in my pocket. I'll let everyone know how much they rock once they get here....plus plenty of pics.

edit: forgot to mention i got them 203 bucks off MSRP price. 👍 that's even cheaper than headphone.com.

Okay, I got them now. edit with pics when I get back from birthday dinner. :D

BEHOLD! (56k warning. lol.)

I remember I used to have a pair of headphones that had a little slider inline with the cord that would adjust the volume. I didnt care much for the slider but what I really loved was the bass they had. Unfortunately those were stolen from me but I recently picked up a pair of Sony MDR-V150 headphones and man these things are great. Their frequency response puts my stereo to shame, 16-22,000 Hz. Thats crazy. :dopey:

updated. The sound is really incredible.

however, when I first put them on, they were REALLY bright. I was almost turned off by them. 40 hours of break-in is the damn truth.
