Best/Most Realistic Sound Settings

Well, I've got a 5.1 surround sound system...but it's my dad's so I can't use it...bummer.


Anyway, I've got 2 options. I can either output through HDMI into my TV, then run a set of PC speakers out of the headphone jack (TV speakers suck), or run an analog signal out the back of my PS3 to two video game amplifiers (TAC Thunderbox 28R, Polk Hitmaster). Right now I've set it to my amps, a total of 130 watts of power and my settings set to Small Theater, as that seemed to work the best as far as quality and loudness.


I know most of the car sounds in GT5 are off from the real thing, but what is the best settings for my setup? Is it what I have as of now? I think so. But I was wondering if there was an alternate route. I have no money at the moment so buying anything else isn't an option.

I set my settings to automatic when I set up my analog signal when I switched my audio settings. Last I knew it was running some Linear stuff.



Also, Is it just me or do the cars idle sounds seem extremely quiet? I can barely hear them, but if I turn my amps up and rev, my house shakes. Any way to fix this so that they are both even? The amps are both 2 channel.

I don't know squat about sound systems and settings so I can't suggest an alternate route but the second choice that you talked about seems to be what i'd choose to go with.

The car sounds are a bit soft in GT5 but that's beside the point because they're not even good to begin with unfortunately. 👎
 
As I stated. Because I'm running 2 channel analog I don't think there is any other option anyway, that I can think of.
 
I have a good quality surround system with a good subwoofer. What I did was lower the db level of the centre channel and the left and right fronts. I raised the rears to the max, +12 db if I remember correctly. I use the hood cam most of the time, and the engine sound is to the rear. With this setup, the voices in the room are lower if I'm not using a mic(they are too high in my opinion), and the engine sound, both from the sub and the rears, is predominant. Makes you feel like you're in a real car if you have good speakers.

The key for me was the rear bias in the speakers as that's where the exhaust sound comes from, for the most part. That's what you want to work toward for the best results. Until I did this I thought the sounds were a bit muted myself, but this brings the cars to life. I find there is still too much tranny whine and some of the cars sound like crap, but at least I can hear the exhaust now above all else. I've had it loud enough that my neighbours on the street come knocking sometimes to watch the action...lol.

I can't use my surround....


I also have 2 speakers...no way to adjust bias.

Try using the Living Room audio setting instead of Small Theater as that will reduce the audio dynamic range and even out sound levels. However it will be less realistic.

I tried that, and my sound levels dropped dramatically. I noticed no difference when using large or small theater. When I switched over, there was a dramatic drop in volume.

This is strange as with my configuration (PS3 analog stereo out->headphone amplifier->AKG k240s headphones) with the Living Room setting I have a quite much evened out, flat sound dynamic range, with the Large Theatre setting a low sound level and quite a lot of difference between idle and full throttle especially on race cars (overall a fatiguing sound experience), while with the Small Theather I think I have a good compromise between the two settings.
