hey guys

ok, i think i'm getting a psp for my birthday, which is the following thursday, and i just wanted to know what racing games could you guys recommend?

thanks :)👍

Yeah, I got tricked into buying NFSU: Rivals thinking it would be just NFS, but portable. Lamest piece of PSP crap, ever.

I recommend Ridge Racer as well. I keep coming back to it. Listening to the classic Ridge Racer songs is worth the price.

I also have Wipeout Pure. Recommended if you like the Wipeout style. I have heard Burnout: Legends is also very good.

I'd recommend Ridge Racer and Wipeout Pure.

I did have Ridge Racer, but I returned the game to the shop because I hate its arcade-ness physics, but I can see why people like it, maybe you will.

Wipeout Pure is great. Again, it has to be your type of game (it is mine). What makes it even better is you can download tracks/ships for it to make it even bigger than it is.

Wipeout is by far the best, its a real breath of fresh air for the series, very classy game indeed.
Ridge is very good too, not quite as nice graphics as Wipeout, but when you get to the faster classes of racing you get to see why the physics are sooo crazy... it too is the best Ridge yet. The new boost system works surprisingly well for it and finally gives a point to drifting all over the shop. Not as overall fulfilling as Wipeout however (which packs far more value and challenge).

Burnout is supposed to be extremely good, but I haven't got it because it doesn't offer anything substantial the big console versions don't. Its supposed to be VERY impressive however.

You don't need a genius to tell you to stay away from Need For Greed by EA, and stay away from Midnight Club also, its dire. TOCA (or Race Driver 2 or V8 Supercars 2 as its known in Aus) is supposed to be o-kay... but nothing to write home about. Not the best choice for realistic racing given GT4 Mobile is carreering round the bend in the not too distant...

Hope that helps.

PS - I damn hope PD'll pump out Tourist Trophy for PSP as well as PS2... Maybe they really need the dual stick thing to get the leaning going... dunno.

Only other game worth getting is GTA LCS. Lumines if you like puzzle crap (surely not the point of having PS2 power in a handheld IMO)...

But Wipeout is definately my first choice, and Ridge or Burnout second.

Burnout Legends - By far the best racing game.

I was disapointed with Wipeout Pure after reading reviews and hearing other peoples opinions. The graphics are excellent (the best on PSP) and the framerate remains constant throughout, but this comes at a price. At no point in the game do you feel like you are going the speed it says you are. 800km/h feels more like 80km/h. Burnout is the complete opposite, it feels really fast (maybe too fast). You really have to concentrate hard. The framerate drops are bearly noticeable. It is also a big game with many cars and tracks to unlock, it will keep you occupied for a long time.

Maybe Wipeout is not my kind of game, but I think it is the weakest PSP game I own. My other games are THUG2, GTA:LCS and Burnout.

I wouldn't say it's that bad. The first slower races are SLOW, but get to the fastest and you're glad it doesn't get any faster (its a GREAT difference in speed to the slower races). It REALLY does test you.

toca race driver 2 and colin mcrae are quite good, on toca race driver 2 there is all sorts of racing like V8 super cars, DTM, rallying and much more. there is also real tracks like A1 ring (the old F1 circuit) and donnington. i have F1 but the top speed isn't like F1 cars and when the cars handle better than the real F1 cars. Also when you have finished the game there's nothing else to do (and to have a greater top speed, you have to turn!)

You're simply bad at playing Wipeout. Its really one of those games where you get out what you put in. Phantom class is damn quick, esp a perfect lap at such speed. :) Whether you think the speed on the display is accurate or not is trivial, you shouldn't have time to look at the speedo if you're 'in the zone'... Not a reason to bash the game considering its indeed very fast on the faster speed classes.

Play burnout instead by all means, but saying 'pure' is weaker than tony hawk is really wrong & just plain silly. Get good at wipeout, put some time into it & then say it doesn't feel fast... or have a much greater sense of accomplishment and reward. A lot of people don't like wipeout because they never put the time in needed to change their minds. In that way its a real love it or hate it thing. Its good, a nice old fashioned slightly unforgiving game, where you actually feel good after winning instead of grinding round the wall every corner & still winning in burnout...
Most people that put the time in... well we were still playing Wipeout 2097 on PS1 until pure came out...

www.wipeoutzone.com - this thriving wipeout community support my case.

THIS is how wipeout is supposed to be played. Take note and realise that "crap, thats fast"!

Burnout provides the better instant gratification for the adrenalin junkie, but its ultimately a shallower game by a long shot. Fun still.

Just another case of someone giving up before experiencing the game. I like Ridge Racer and I've always been a fan. It runs at 60fps and that alone is amazing for a handheld 3d racer with that much detail.

I'm not bashing the game, I think it is very good. It's just not my sort of game and that is why I don't enjoy it as much as my other games. nitro_2005 asked for our opinions and I think I am entitled to give mine.

I haven't unlocked Phantom class yet (I'm currently at Rapier class) so maybe my opinions will change when I unlock it (I haven't played any other games since I got GTA:LCS last week).

I've got Midnight Club 3 and really enjoyed it. I say enjoyed it because it got pretty repetitive, but it's much better than Ridge Racer which is possible the most boring, thoughtless POS i've ever played.

Need For Speed Most Wanted is cracking on the PC, i've heard it's not bad on the PSP either. Was considering buying it.
