I can afford either of these.
What is the best sounding, and still louder than stock mufflers for a V8 Fox Mustang?

Who here knows which is louder and sounds better, some Flowmaster mufflers, or Cherry Bombs of some sort.

Cherry Bombs sound cheap and are often seen on old Cavilers and Neons around here. Do yourself a favour and get the Flowmaster one that suits you. 40 series are supposed to sound the best.

Cherry bombs are the staple snack food of Appalachian Americans.

Flowmaster mufflers tend to sound good on Mustangs of any sort. As does a straight X-pipe with no catalytic converters and race-tuned headers.

How about a beautifully bent stainless system that was designed specifically for the application?

And that begs another question, what is the difference between an H-pipe and an X-pipe.

Besides the shape:sly:

I don't really see any performance benefit to either, but it does help with the sound of the exhaust, since the sounds from both banks of cylinders are allowed to mingle. Makes it sound less like a Chevy.

Avoid Flowmasters.

They sound good at first, but after a while they start sounding like crap just due to age.

I'd say to try a set of glasspacks on for size, but they don't last that long and are known to be loud... As hell.

That said, I like the stock exhaust. And with stock heads there isn't that much to be gained with a freer-flowing exhaust system. (The stock heads choke it that much) Well, it's at least not the bottleneck. The stock heads and intake manifold are.

It's that woooo woooot.

Anyways, shop around before getting an exhaust and ask questions to people who work on Mustangs. If you can get a dyno chart of before and after you'll be able to make a decision easier as well. I know you are going for sound but if you plan on doing a full exhaust setup it will require an intake and headers to be complete.

Got that woot wooooooooooot 👍

Maybe I should go work at an mechanics shop before those things go out of style!

actually, those whistle tips would be handy out here in the boonies where you gotta fear for your life because of six zillion deer ready to mangle your machine.

What's cherry bomb, flowmaster, magnaflow etc etc? Are they American exhaust brands or types of mufflers?

A cherry bomb is one of these. LOUD.

A cherry bomb, then = Glasspack at the tip.

I've liked glasspack noise (Watch the Dukes of Hazzard to hear what a Mopar sounds like on them: The sounds were dubbed straight from a Chrysler big block with said mufflers) but, no, not expensive, nor durable. But LOUD.

I wouldn't touch the whistle tips with a ten foot stick...

I'm impartial to Cherry Bombs because of their old-school pedigree. As I recall, my Dad had them running straight off the headers on his Camaro for some time, but I think he changed them out eventually. However, Cherry Bombs seem to suit the Chevrolet and Mopar crowd a bit better than the Fords, but then again, I can't think of many Fords I've heard with them before.

Flowmaster is going to be the best option. Their 40-series always sounds pretty good, and if you want to be outrageous, they offer the Super-40 option.

Either way, it depends on what you like. If I'm building a loud car, obviously I want Cherry Bombs. But generally speaking, I like mine just having a good rumble and a throaty overture. That means the quieter 20 and 30 series pipes from Flowmaster, or maybe a tuned option from Borla.

I've always been partial to SLP, as they make really nice stuff. I have an SLP cat-back on my car. Magnaflow and Borla are good ones too. Are you doing a full exhast system, or just replacing the mufflers?

I'm just gonna be replacing mufflers, I don't have sufficient cash to fund a full exhaust system:nervous:

Whatever's on my brothers van. It's just a straight through muffler. 4 inch pipes all the way to the rear. Thats gotta be the best muffler IMO.

I'll ask what brand it was.

Exhaust brands. Major ones are:
Borla
Cherry Bomb
Dynomax
Flowmaster
Hooker
Magnaflow
Thrush

What brands do you have down in Australia?

Pacemaker
Lukey Exhaust
Redback (Not that I'd touch them, I'm not sure but I think they're not too good)

I'm don't think there are many brands, but there are a number of popular shops that make custom exhausts, and sell packages for various cars, like
Castle Hill Exhaust
They make some good exhausts, but I wouldn't count them as a brand.:)
