its my birthday today and im going out to buy gt3 and a ps2 tomorrow and i wasnt sure what car to start with. My friend has had it for a month or so now and he started with the mx-5, is this a wise choice? please let me know,

thanks,
GTMatt

The MX-5 is the easiest way to go, Or you could get all gold in the license tests and use the prize cars from that.

thanks guys
i like the trueno ae86 so ill give it a try, and by the way i do mean gt3 thats y i said gt3 at the begining of the thread :dunce: .
i like to think of the trueno as a more fun car to the mx-5. I got the trueno and the mx-5 a-spec, b-spec and race modification models in gt2 and they seem way too dull
my favs to get in gt3 are the trueno with the black hood and the old ass rx-7. thanks guys. if anyone opposes to my choice please let me know what you think is the best starter.

Happy birthday, and have fun. Welcome to GTPlanet!

Poke around and seach for "start" or "first" in the subject of threads on this board. You should come up with some good discussion. I personally recommend the MX-5, especially if you try to win the free one from golding the A licenses before you buy a car.

nope, you said gt2.

i recommend getting something light. start with the dihatsu mira because its the least expensive, and you can enter the lightweight series with it (best car for that series too). you can then win an 86. a good second car to buy is either the tommy kaira zz-s, because of its extremely light weight and braking, or the mustang cobra R because of its best bang for your buck qualities.

Happy birthday GTMatt!

I'd recommend the MX-5 as well. It's easier to drive and therefor the better car for a GT3 beginner. Or if you want to go for the hard (but in my eyes best) way do what neon_duke said and go for gold on the A license tests. Those tests are not too hard and give you an idea of how to drive properly. If you can archieve to get'em all in gold you'll have a MX-5 for free, which has the advantage of having all your starter money left. You can immediately tune up your car.

So this way, you'll be much better of in my eyes, cause your car is way quicker than the other cars and you already gained some experience from the license tests.

If you want to get straight into the game without golding the liscences I'd say go with the Trueno. The Miatas are slightly easier to drive however if you go with the Trueno at first, you might get a bit more skilled by driving it, and its a fairly good car turbo or NA :dopey:

Whether you want to call it AE86, Hachi Roku, or Sprinter Trueno 1600GT Apex, it is the ultimate starter car. Unless you win an RX8 from liscence test.

Actually, I think you can, but only in the higher tests. It's unlikely that anyone brand new to the game could gold all the licenses. Heck, I'm having trouble, and I've been playing the game for several years.

Not to mention the fact that using any Viper in Beginner League would be boring!

How true. And, c'mon, you'd be making your way to the top (in an AE86) the same way one particular 'superstar' made his way to the top. Actually, two of them ;)

i don't know why everyone says to use the ae86 and the mx-5. those are the first two cars you win. maybe it's just because i like to collect all the cars. i'd start with the pt cruiser or something else you can't win. that way you have it and don't have to use it ever again.

as soon as you get the AE86 you can then use that.

Why waste all that money on parts?

Either way, Keiichi Tsuchiya's early days were in a Hachi Roku. Learn well from what he's become ;)

(and I can't forget someone who was partly 'born out of him', Takumi Fujiwara)

woo ps2 and gt3 day today!

it appears that i did write gt2 lol, anyway i changed it to gt3 and i decided to go with the pt cruiser and get the trueno as a prize and the same 4 da mx-5, cya im off to get a ps2 woooo!

Eww... PT Cruiser... eww...

Trueno/AE86 is awesome. I love that thing. That, or a Vitz 1.5 RS :D Also love that... or you could get golds in B license, sell the Miata, and get an MR-S :D Toyota goodness...

Everybody's talking about the MX-5 because it's known to be the best beginners car besides the AE86. I personally find the AE86 much harder to drive compared to the MX-5, which is not really helpful when you're a beginner having some hard battles in the first races. I sold my PT-Cruiser (in the game) because even fully tuned up it was incredibly slow. I wouldn't recommend that car in any way.

If I'd start the game newly now I'd make it exactly like I said: get gold on the A license tests, tune up the MX-5 you get with your money and there you go. I know that it's not easy to do those tests when you're a beginner, but you gain a lot of experience and you get something for it, so why not have a try this way?

EDIT: I just saw that should be B license and not A license, sorry!

INterceptor makes a valid point. Combine a Miata with that cash, and you'll do good. Also, you will learn alot... so its not like you'll be leaning on the car.

With that, you can use the MX-5 for a while, complete an array of races, sell some cars, and get something that is competive at very high levels even, such as an MR2 GT-S (Did the pro turbo race with it) or an Intergra Type R (Pro FF race and All the Type R races, also, got the Acura, so the American make races)

An STi or Evo would also work well after you get some bank. But that 18k into the Miata would make it good for the beginner league at least... well most of it anyhow

Many happy returns of the day. I couldn't be bothered with getting all golds and aquiring the Miata so I bought a Yaris/Vitz as my first car, which didn't hinder my progress.
