Depends on where you live as I doubt a McLaren F1 is "street legal" here in the states.

Is there any law here that DEMANDS you have a left-mounted wheel?

? Mclaren F1 has got a centre cockpit :) .

When it the car coming up in my ucd ?! :dunce:

You are correct, it is a premium and available in the McLaren new car dealership.

R390 was basically a racecar that had a road going equivalent built, but supposedly none were ever sold to the public so it never actually went on the road.

It was built for GT racing same as the Toyota GT1, it's only a road car by name, can't really be compared to mass produced production cars really.

Same as the concepts (Nardo, Cien, Viper GTS-R etc) and the tuner specials like the Amuse GT1 and MINES BNR34. These were mass produced production cars given 'the works' by a specialised tuning company. NSX-R Prototype - well I guess the fact it's called a prototype should really explain everything, a bit like the NISMO R33 LM gtr - although this did actually race, but again, that says everything, just look at those arches (I love that car :D ).

There's some crazy 'street legal' cars in the real world, but the label 'street legal' is very subjective and open to opinion really, different people will view what is or isn't.

Personnally for GT5 I'd consider mass produced production cars as street legal, anything else deserves to be in a seperate category because they're so much faster being either a concept or tuned version by a specialist.

ZZII is awesome, but again, it was built for GT racing, and a road going version was made, it wasn't mass produced, not even sure it was minimum produced either i.e. any actually made it to the road.

My votes would go for the Audi R8 4.2, 430 Scuderia, Italia or Enzo, Lambo 670 SV, Maclaren F1 & MP4, R35GTR V-spec, Jag XJ220, NSX Type-R, Lotus Esprit 350 or V8 '02 + Motorsport Elise, Subaru Spec C '04 & '05, BMW M3 GTR & CSL and the RX7 Spirit Type R '02 is a great car.

Shelby series 1 s/c is a real dark horse, doesn't sound great but when you drive it, it feels great.

Cars that need some tuning in order to become amazing on the track whilst maintaining their street legal status:
McLaren F1 - It's downforce (after aero kit) is amazing, so is it's shere speed and handling;
Dodge Viper ACR - After extensive tunning it gets extremly fast, I did testing with street legal tuned ACR and I clocked 6:40 'round the ring on sports soft tires, it has great downforce too;
Nissan R390 - I can't call this a true road car, it's technically a race car, which, due to homologation had to have it's road legal counterpart made; It still needs some extensive tuning to be great.

Street legal cars which don't need any tuning in order to be amazing in street legal form:
TVR Speed 12 - BEAST;
Amuse S2000 GT1 - Downforce, downforce, downforce;
BMW M3 GTR - Just an amazing car, try it;

Und natürlich...BMW M3 CSL (possibly the best street car in GT5).

The discussion gets more difficult without specifying whether you're looking at "stock" street legal, "modified" street legal, or "street legal if you ignore the law". For example, switching out your Catalytic converter, exhaust, some weight reduction mods, suspension settings, or race tires would remove any car from the street legal catagory (depending on local laws, of course).

For pure stock (no mods beyond an oil change), the F1 takes the group, IMO, but a dark horse people haven't mentioned is the Saleen S7. That car is quick.

"street legal if you ignore the law".

Hmmmm :D

Anyway... a lot of people are going for high-end sportscars and forgetting the fun.

How about a Caterham?!

Nissan Skyline R32 from the dealership....in my opinion the best GTR in game next to the Mines R34...!

To me the viper ACR is amazing, accelerates like crazy, looks good, is cheap.
I dont like the top speed of the r390, or lack of. The vette ZR1 is a very good car too. But the best I believe is the Nissan GTR V-Spec '09. It is cheap (150k), fast, handles amazingly, grips very well, even with no TCS or Skid Recovery, looks good, and for an enduro (yes ive tried it lol) it keeps fuel and tyres longer than most other cars.

McLaren F1, no doubt.

It's the best production car ever made.

After him, i really like Ferrari 458 Italia and Nissan's R35 V-Spec and R34 Nür.

BMW M3 CSL, Fully tuned Corolla AE86 Levin, Fully tuned Corolla AE111

but the best is the Ferrari 512BB <3

Mclaren F1 is the fastest stock street legal car i've driven around the Top Gear test track, everything I tested on that track however was running sports softs, better than what the real cars would come with.

None of the other cars came close time wise.

Quite a few cars missing, the modded cars had no setup (and they need it) and no aero parts were installed, so are likely slower than their potential and pretty much every car had more time available (some more than others), but this is what I managed with the few laps that i ran for each. All cars (apart from those stated modded) are stock, all cars run on sports softs. Only included the street legal on the list.

For me I've yet to test anything that (on this track) comes even close to the F1. I generally don't tune supercars/hypercars, On the contrast to that I usually end up modifying japanese cars. Cars like the old skylines, subaru impreza's and Lancer evo's were just made to be modded and tuned up, but on the other end the Nissan R35 GT-R is already a supercar in its own right, meaning I had no desire to tune it. When it comes to stock cars and 500-600bhp tuner Japanese cars on sports tyres then the Mclaren is by far the best. But if tuning and tyres are open to everything then the best car is anyones guess. If the event were to be restricted to only sports hards then you would see different results again, the 4WD cars would come forward (Nissan GT-R R35) and MR cars like the Mclaren F1 and Ferrari Enzo would likely fall way down the list, due to the difficulties with putting power down to the road on those lower grip tyres.

I managed a 1:08 on the TGTT with a fully tuned R34.

Maybe it isent the fastest of them.. But... The Mclaren F1! Best car ever build. Its almost as fast as a veyron on the straight..It turn pretty and its fücking 17 years old!

Best street legal car?

For me I'd say the Art Morrison Corvette. It really is one of a kind.
It has the power, stats and technologies of todays supercars, yet it has a looks from the '50s which is pure class.

Yev

👍 on that, absolutely agree. If you take the time to set it up perfectly for yourself, you can pretty much enter any event, any corner at any speed (well ok...), you'll always be at least competitive. Misses out on top speed of course, but you'll make up most of it in the corners. A pure joy on the 'Ring.

Next for me would be the M3 GTR (though this has the same homologation problem as the R390 Road Car), and of course, the F430 Scuderia. Best street legal Ferrari in my view. Note that none of those have amazing straight line top speed, but awsome handling.

I would say one of the WRC cars with the engine tuned upto maximum, they should be the fastest as they have downforce. And have the bonus of having all the racing type modifications.

Pagani Zonda R '09

cant be street legal
1. sits way to low
2. no turn signals
3. cant go over speed bump
(sorry about that i didnt see what i missed

i think its the jag xj-13 put some street legal tires on i ill be
but its not practical

Just been doing mid 1.09's on the top gear track with sport softs on a 205 turbo 16 rally car. Road legal.

Try equalizing the cars by PP and then run the tests. You'll find that at 600 PP for example, probably around the most common racing level online, most of the really good cars are quite close in laps times and some excel at longer flatter tracks while others do better on the tighter twistier tracks.

Jay.
Best street legal car?

For me I'd say the Art Morrison Corvette. It really is one of a kind.
It has the power, stats and technologies of todays supercars, yet it has a looks from the '50s which is pure class.

Are these competitive at supercar level? IE for the latest seasonal?

Is this about "street legal" or bone stock and street legal. I'm seeing two different types of comments on the OP's original thread topic.

If it's just street legal then you can modify any car to max performance without RM-ing or max weight removal to fit this criteria. That will change the outcome of this discussion drastically. For cars without RM capability, stage 2&3 weight removal is gutting out the car effectively making the car a race car and not truly a full streetcar. So are we talking best streetcar with stock everything? Or stock "full weight" (no weight removal) but max performance power mods? Or full weight reduction and full power mods except for RM-ing?

Too many variables left open by the OP to give a solid answer.

Mclaren F1 is the fastest street legal car, for circuit racing.

Mazda Furai - A racing concept car, not street legal
Pagani Zonda R - A racing/track car, not street legal
Corvette ZR1 RM - Rm turns it into a racing car, not street legal.

Any car with a RM is no longer street legal, however the Mclaren F1 can have the same downforce levels as racing cars (such as the Zonda R) with the aerodynamics kit, while remaining a street legal road car.
What makes you think RM cars are not street legal. They are road registered cars with modifications that make them racing cars, they are road legal 100%.
.........

Separately, out of any of the cars you can take 70kgs off the stock figure by running it low on fuel to get the best lap time.

For me the best street legal car in the game is the Daihatsu Cuore/Mira TR-XX Avanzato '97. It can be used to win a number of the early A-Spec races and my Bobs can use it to easily win those same races. It is the fastest car you can have for the Lightweight K Cup Seasonal races allowing you to rake in the credits and xp almost faster than you can use them. If your a bit crazy like me you can even race it in the Supercar Festival seasonal races and not get totally destroyed (with a bit of luck and the right field of cars I managed to win the Supercar Eifel race in it.) It's easy to set up and very fun to drive.
Of course if your asking what street legal car in GT5 is the best car real world...well that's going to be very subjective. Personally I've always been partial to American muscle cars and British sports cars.

None of those things make it street illegal.

i messed up a bit
i can go over speed bumps
and it sits only like 1-2 inches of the ground to its too low
and lack of turn signals is not allowed in America dont know about other places

Race Modded cars are racing cars, they no longer count as street legal in my opinion, to race mod a car you would do things to it that would brake rules (ride height, noise levels, emissions) that would need to be reversed to make the car legal. Perfect example is the GT-R Mclaren F1's, they are race modded cars, and in order to be road legal again they had to recieve more modifications, meaning that in race modded form they were obviously not legal.

Sure not all race modded cars would fail to be road legal, but I think in a system that could be different from car to car and from country to country its fair game to say that a racing car is not road legal as it doesn't fairly fit the title of a production or street car, it no longer resembles the car that it once was, it is no different from any of the other racing cars in the game at that point. A racing car is not a street car.

As for your rally car, did you modify it? Rally cars are light, powerful and have racing car downforce, if you upgraded the engine then you're going to have the same power, more downforce and therfor more grip. A rally car is still a racing car. If you want to make a fair comparison in this case the Mclaren would get to have some weight reductions, aero upgrade, transmission/drivertrain and suspension upgrades, the result would be a car that would comfortably run in the 1:07-1:08's on sports softs. Where as, all the cars in my big ass list were completely stock (unless stated, the Japanese tuners for example).

The problem is this, if you want a fair comparison then there needs to be some ground rules, or you're just going to get guys come in with their racing softs on 1300bhp Bugatti Veyrons saying "lol gusy, my veyron laptimz iz so much btr than ur sux cars lul".

If it is/has

Racing tyres
Mazda Furai
Zonda R
Race modded
Rally car
Racing car

Then i'm sorry but it really cannot be classed as a street car, otherwise the whole point of this thread becomes lost. I genuinely believe that without any modifications and on sports soft tyres the Mclaren F1 is the fastest street car. If you start asking is "this" racing car legal then who knows where you end up, racing cars are obviously going to be faster than road cars, and at the end of the day it completely defies the point of asking "what is the fastest street car", perhaps the thread name should be better worded.

Depends on what country your in then.
