Hello all, now I have to say that I have gone through two Driving Force GT wheels since GT5 was released. I have another DFGT, but am thinking of getting the Fanatech GT2 wheel. I don't have $600 to spend on the ThrustMaster, so what are my options?

Fanatec GT2: Not sure on the GT2 but other Fanatecs are constantly reported as faulty or just broke. Customer support is horrible too. In-built wheel settings set this wheel apart from others and is the only real advantage I see in this wheel.

Logitech G27: Not really any issues besides the constant complaints from ill-advised people about dead zone issues which actually relate to chassis overhauls not the wheel (though the X2010 is quite wild but i'd expect 120mph in 2-3 seconds to be one hell of a violent ride).
Six buttons (two on transmission and four on the wheel) do not work with GT5 and the working buttons cannot be mapped to anything other than what they have on default.

Fanatec Pros: Adjustable on-wheel settings, possibly better feeling material on wheel, more realistic size/shape wheel. Optional upgrades for better experience.

Fanatec Cons: Constant issues with faulty wheels, gated box is apparently garbage though I hear a Clubsport Edition one is on the way. Price for decent extras ie: CS Pedals, CS Transmission, bigger paddles(original ones look tiny and horribly like DFP/DFGT ones which make finding them in the heat of racing a pain sometimes, possibly bad build quality(backed up by constant faulty reports).

Logitech Pros: Solid bulid quality, shift light is becoming quite useful for me on GT5, customer support is good but rarely needed, price is much more affordable, just being a larger company with much more development etc. in my eyes makes them more reputable and so far my G27 has been beautiful.

Logitech Cons: Buttons not working, no calibration/deadzone/linearity settings which make the wheel fall behind Fanatecs onbaord settings (there are none of these ingame settings for Fanatecs either), stainless steel parts give a good feel of being solid and lasting the rigors of hardcore sim racing (something the Fanatecs have yet to prove and frankly I think they will not last anywhere near a long as Logitechs will, my old Logitech lasted 5 years/3 owners thrashing it and the only problem with it now is the actual button behind the up-shift paddle has lost its on/off actuation on the circuit board meaning it sometimes shifts twice).

All in all they are both great looking wheels well worth experiencing but I have bought Logitech from day one and never had an issue with any product from them. Fanatecs' wheels look good and could be better with the onboard settings but I haven't had much experience with them. To me it's a question of quality or quantity being Logitechs' reputation of quality faultless products vs Fanatecs' hype of better settings and better feel/input than Logi's.

Hope this helps you, I recently made the same choice and went for a Logitech due to price, availability and reliability.

Same here, using the G25. But I´d add, that maybe it won´t get broken that easy :) Got a bit louder since the beginnin, but that´s it.

I recently bought my first wheel, a DFGT, due to its low price point and as an experiment to see whether I would like it or even use it. I have to say that it is ok as far as I can tell, it does sometimes feel like I need to turn in fractionally sooner due to some kind of lag (it may just be a subtle difference between using a DS3 and a wheel, I dont know as I havent been using it for long).

Can someone out there with experience with wheels tell me whether the DFGT is a decent representation of a wheel or are others like the G25/G27 etc. really as superior as their price point suggests?

Cheers

Oh for sure! The G25 is very well built IMO. I'm just saying when it does die hehe

Holy crap!

I think they may have downgraded something internally for the DFGT... Because my DFP logged probably 100k miles before it chipped a tooth off one of the internal gears... Then another 50k+ after fixing it (bought another, something was wrong with the FFB motor, used bits from it) before it started having calibration loss problems and I replaced it with another I picked up locally for $40.

I'd almost say G25/7 but I still remember the shifter problems many people have had with the G25... Fanatec I've no real experience with, though a Turbo S may wind up my next wheel once my current DFP eventually gives up.

As a matter of fact, I hear from many people with a G27 that it's better built than the G27, many people had to return their G27 already, after only a few weeks/months of use...

My son got a DFGT just before GT5 Prologue came out, he is still using it and it works well. I have a GT27 for use on both the PC and PS3, it is not that old yet and is a little noisy, the FFB is not as strong as with the DFGT wheel, no problems with dead zone. The only real complaint is the lack of button mapping for the G27 if they can manage to map the buttons and get the clutch/gear selector to work that would be great.
The DFGT certainly has some advantages just now with GT5 and I'm not about to shell out the mega bucks for the Thrustmaster ... well not this or next month anyway :)

Driving Force-EX 👍 small, compact, and 200 degree rotation to save all that tedious wheel turning :D

Bet its mega cheap thesedays too

The DFGT is really a nice wheel and has everything what you´re asking from a wheel. More than that, whith those small buttons and setup gear directly on the wheel, it is superbly suited for GT5. What I know, it isn´t that easy to find one in retail, actually.

Thanks for all the feedback on wheels. My first DFGT I had for almost 5 years. I guess you said it right Rotory, they don't make them like they used too. I'm getting a new DFGT from logitech here soon and I'm using a friend DFGT until it gets here and then we're thinking of molding his. Gamestop says they have discontinued the DFGT, Bestbuy also. Can someone else check.

I have had my G27 for 1 1/2 years, and haven't had a problem yet. Also, never had any issues with any of my previous logitech wheels

The G25 has two buttons on the wheel. The GT3 has the entire button set (X,O,T,S,L1/2/3,R1/2/3,Sel,Enter) and d-pad mapped right on the wheel in natural groups that emulate the DS3 layout. Having all the buttons on the wheel itself directly in front of you is really nice.

Having used both wheels extensively I find that the G25 lags behind in many respects. The most prominent being the massive force feedback deadzone around the center position on the G25 that leaves you compensating for the design of the wheel at times instead of focusing your attention on the car and the road as it should be.

Contrary to some of the above remarks on quality/reliability, I've used my GT3 extensively since GT5 was released and have had zero problems with it. I love the clubsport pedals and they have also worked flawless. In my humble opinion, the G25 pedals cant hold a candle to the clubsport design. I bought my GT3/Clubsport as a package for $350.

I you don't mind having to "train" how to use a wheel and holding it in a death grip on straights with a high FFB setting, then a logitech should be ok for you.

Lastly, the GT3 wheel is much thicker front-to-back and consequently more confortable for extended use especially for those with bigger hands.

Hey man, thanks for the reply and review from a owner of the GT3 wheel. I've seen some videos of in-game & wheel setup/modes. What are your in-game setting and wheel modes set to?

GT3 and game settings that work best for me so far ...

Wheel
-----
Sensitivity (SEn): off
Force feedback strength (FF): 100
Vibration strength (Sho): 100
Drift mode (dri): 0
ABS: 60
Linearity (Lin): 0
Deadzone (dEA): 0
Spring (SPr): -3
Damper (dPr): -3

Game
----
FFB: 5
Steering - Simulation
power steering off

all assists off (including abs)
brake balance front 5, rear 1

I'm also thinking of getting a wheel for the first time, is that right on the G25 and 27 you can't use clutch or manual gear selection only sequential shifting?

Thanks again man, I think I'll be getting the GT2 V2 or the GT3. Don't know yet.

I love my DFGT. Picked it up day after I got GT5. If I had the money to spend I would def pick up a G25/G27, but the DFGT is not bad for the price.

I recently received my GT3 V2 wheel with the clubsport pedals.

These replaced the DFGT I have owned since GT5 prologue was released.

In my opinion there is no comparisom between the two.

The DFGT gives a pretty good driving experience but pales in comparison to the way the Fanatec feels.

The brake pedal is fantastic providing actual feedback and is adjustable at any time.

The wheel itself feels great and looks fantastic as well. The large diameter rim is simply the best.

Yea i used my g27 for 3 weeks and it already broke!👎 I AM NOT IMPRESSED AT 300$ a pop. luckily i got a refund.

Nevermind those wheel, save up for another couple of months and get the T500 rs, unless you don't actually want the BEST wheel for GT5 and just want a good wheel?

GT2 with CS pedals is 2nd best, availability might be a problem though. G25/27 feel like toys compared to the GT2/3 v2 and the T500.

I love my very first wheel purchase...The DFGT...official GT5 game wheel for $130. I have it set up on my living room coffee table. I wish I have the playseat along with it but no room for that.

If we´re talking about commercial range, then those above mentioed are good choices.

When we go to a "bit" higher price categories, then goolge for these:

Ecci
Frex
VPP

Those can swiftly show 4-digits pricetags, but are not comparable to the commercial range.

These wouldn't work with the ps3 would they?

I too am looking for some advice on a wheel for a first timer. I've played GT for many years with just controller and I'd like to make the jump to a wheel/pedals. I've been targeting the GT3 for a while mainly off of looks and spec sheet. But then the GT2 came out and I'm unsure what difference there really is other than it works with X360, which I don't really care about. So what makes sense for someone who just wants to experience the true sim feel without going way too crazy like a thrustmaster? Gt25/27 or GT2/GT3? I have no problem getting a used one too since I can save some cash.
