hey guys, i just got my xmas $ and im looking to buy a wheel. In your opinion what is the best wheel without exceeding $300.

Id go with the driving force gt. Mostly basedon price but it is also fully supported by gt5 at this time and is not a bad wheel. Try catching it at 99 bucks.

G27 costs about 300 dollars, so that is the best wheel for that money. DFGT is likely the better option in terms of value.

Depends on what you mean by "exceeding" 300$. I had the DFGT and a great wheel for around 100$. I just got the Fanatec GT2 and Clubsport pedals and it's and amazing wheel. So 100 vs 500 but worth it if you plan on playing awhile. I'm actually sore racing with the fanatec because the brakes and FF in the wheel stronger than the DFGT.

i know the g27 comes with the h-shiftr and the dfgt does not correct? , is there any possible way to add it on (h-shifter)

G27 costs about 300 dollars, so that is the best wheel for that money. DFGT is likely the better option in terms of value.

But g27 with a semi-decent stand (wheelstand pro for example) is 400+. Seems like a necessary cost to add for the overall experience. None the less I dove into the g27 being a wheel virgin and have loved it so far.

get a fanatec gt2...its been named the best wheel for gt5 by inside sim racing, ive got the 911 turbo S which is the father of the gt2 and it is the best wheel i have ever used...and yes...it is expensive...you get what you pay for the dfp and dfgt's really are just garbage in comparison to even a g27, letalone the top end wheels like the fanatecs

I really enjoy driving normal manual cars with clutch and H-shifter so I got the G27, It's expensive compare to others but it's worth it. The new official GT wheel by thrust master seems pointless to me, a clutch with only paddle shift....?

For the price nothing beats the $99 Driving Force GT.

There's a reason my DFGT sits unused ever since i have gotten a G27. Because i find it a garbage wheel. And that will probably be the G27's fate when i get a GT2 wheel.
If he wants a wheel for $300, the G27 is the way to go.

Note: You get what you pay for. Normally in racing wheels, more expensive means a better product.

sorry, but it's NOT a "garbage wheel"; the fact that it is slightly less polished than other wheels it is unmatched in its price versus quality factor. So please refrain from calling it garbage. Thank you :)

I've only ever used the Driving Force Pro, and that was 5 years ago, and I still have it now!
I've only even hit it twice, and that was during trying to Gold Suzuka in the Vettel challenge.
I wish I never hit it but it's a really good wheel.

....you hit your wheel....wheel molester :)

it's good to know that a logitech wheel can make it 5 years!!! I've had my DFGT 2 years now and it's still in awesome shape :)

Please dont take offense mate, but in comparison to even the g25/27, it is nothing more than a toy. We are just stating our honest opinions based on our experience. I started on a dfp, played on a dfgt for a while (they feel very similar) then got a g25 and used that for a while. Now im on the fanatec wheel and I've played gt5 on the dfgt, g25,g27 and obviously my fanatec wheel, in comparison. the dfgt really is just garbage. Its like playing a completely different game with the higher teir wheels. Once again please dont take offense, I am not intending to offend you, Its just the way things go when you are comparing a $99 toy to a $500 piece of sim equipment.

the point he was making, is that pound for pound($for$) you cant beat the dfgt. IF you get it for $69-$99. PLUS, if you are using it for GT5 it has the on wheel settings. face it....its been argued a bunch but its true. full retail is not worth it though since the carrera has the shifters and clutch for a bit more $. and on and on it goes. to answer the OP's Q? G27 $299.99.

Depends what your playing
PS3, PC: Logitech G27 (i was going to mention fanatec gt3 rs v2 clubsports but that isn't available and exceeds the $300 limit buy $19.95)
PS3 Only: Logitech Driving Force GT, Logitech G27 (if your willing to pay a lot extra)
Xbox,PS3 and PC: The only one is the Fanatec GT2 with STANDARD Pedals(unless you got some g25/g27 pedals)

My experience with GT5...G25/27. Wheel has tons of life and car feel, strong as heck FF, very responsive, durable, and attractive looking. The only thing really lame about it is how little resistance is in the shifter.

I also have a Fanatec Carrera...it's not as good as the G25/27, but I'd pick that over the DFGT since it has a clutch+6spd and is only $150.

I haven't tried the GT2 yet, and still don't know if I will to see how it compares to the G25/27. Too many mixed reviews from actual users so far. I was hoping it was a repackaged Turbo S...but apparently it's not as good.

As someone who has owned a Turbo S for while and just received a GT2, I can tell you it's essentially a Turbo S in a GT3 RS v2 body. The FFB, steering feel, noise, and firmware are identical. The housing is identical. The GT2 uses the same tuning functions, calibration routines, and wireless binding methods as the Turbo S.

Most differences are basically things you can see in pictures: wheel shape, Alcantara wrap, color, slightly improved shifter paddles. I like the wheel shape better, and the Alcantara feels wonderful. The aluminum ClubSport paddles and spacers are now included. The paddle shifter buttons are no longer molded from the same plastic as the wheel housing, but are now separate mechanisms the extend from somewhere inside the housing. The result is marginally better tactile feel, but a little more precision. The paddle shifters are still nowhere close to the G25 or G27. The biggest surprise is the buttons on the spokes feel a lot better. They're much more positive, whereas the Turbo S has buttons that feel mushy and vague.

I haven't used the Fanatecs, but either the G27 or DFGT are great for GT5. If you like driving manual, then G27 all the way, if you're all auto all the time the DFGT will be just fine I'd imagine, and save you a couple hundred bucks.

wheels Ive used

Driving Force Pro
G25
G27
Driving Force GT

Currently own
GT3RSv2 with Clubsport Pedals, CSP Tuning Kit and H Shifter

Of all the wheels Ive owned the GT3RS is my current favorite. Between the wheels its sort of a toss up between the G27 and GT3. Both have there pros and cons like the G27 seems more connected or direct and the GT3 feels less harsh and more natural. The later being what I prefer. Both are relatively quiet(GT3 is very quiet) but the standard shifter is much nicer on the logitech wheel(come on Fanatec, bring on the clubsport shifter). I havent used fanatecs standard pedals but from what Ive read they are just shy or on par with Logitechs though Logitechs are more mod friendly. I purchased the GT3 mainly for the clubsports and they are really something else. Anyway this is basically what I tell everyone that asks

Depending on use and how much you want to spend I recommend in order

Driving Force GT : Cheap, great feed back and awesome for occasional use

G27 : Not so cheap but a great package. Has a good wheel with nice pedals and shifter

GT3RSv2 with the Clubsport pedals - A bit more than the G27 but good wheel and great pedals. IMO Dont purchase the shifter and instead spend the money on the CSP Tuning Kit and wait for the Clubsport shifter.

If you need X360 support(I didnt)
Turbo S or GT2
