Best Wheel?

? Dfp gt is the wheel that is designed for consoles. G27 is primarily designed for pc usage. Though they both work equally well on both platforms of course

That's what I mean by not being exclusively for consoles. Their wheels which are "intended" for consoles have no problems whatsoever being used on the PC as far as I've ever heard and experienced. The G27(and most if not all of their older wheels) works just fine on the PS3 as well, as long as the specific game interprets it correctly. They surely had this versatility in mind all along.

If money is no object, then you really have to go for a Frex or some similar custom controller. There's also the TSW that many long time sim racers swear by. But in this sub-$1000 category there are Fanatec, Thrustmaster and Logitech as the serious players.

-If you have good pedals that are stiff, the load cell brake is not necessary. I have had a load cell CSP set, I also modded my current pedals with a load cell. I am equally fast with these T500 stock (non-load cell) pedals as I was with a load cell, or with the CSP's with the load cell. But a G25/27 has poor pedals and benefits from a load cell mod.

-The G25 shifter IMHO was awesome. Mine lasted 5 years before it got flaky. I got an adapter from Leo Bodnar and I still use it like a button box.
-I had an Act-Labs shifter that broke the first time I used it. It was flimsy, cheap and over priced. Act-Labs support was slow and I had to pay to send the defective unit back for a refund.
-I have a Lightning SST now and it comes with a lifetime warranty and it works really well so far (I got it for xmas so limited use).
-That's why I choose it over the TH8RS, though I hear good things about it.
-There are myriad other shifters around, but these seem to be most popular. For a sequential, check out www.derekspearedesigns.com
-The Fanatec shifters look awfully designed and cheap- I have heard bad things about them and well- look at them. I wouldn't touch them with a 10' pole.

I saw somebody else get a Fanatec, so I decided to be brave and try out the Logitech. If anything happens with this, I'm going to Fanatec next time. Should be here in around a week I believe.

Did you get a good deal? Only problem now is, the only place up from where you are (other than mods) is 400/500/600 of a whole new package... it's not really a problem honestly, it just means the wheel you have is so good for the money.

I wouldn't do mods personally, but others have, and once my warranty finishes if I'm not happy with it for some reason, then I may get into the e-brake, the inverted pedals, the loadcell, and if I'm really game, the ARC mod. Once you did all of that to it, wouldn't be any real reason to upgrade anyway (not that it'd necessarily be cheaper), there'd be only one flaw with it at that stage, no PS button ;), otherwise, it'd be perfect.

Well, my G27 came today, and I couldn't be happier at all. It's truly amazing and a blast to use. I'm just wondering if there's anything I should know now that I have it hooked up? Thanks to everybody for all the input.

well, just the normal G27 stuff, make sure the cables are well tucked in otherwise the clamps won't work 100%, turn all the in game settings to 10 (that might just be a preferential thing, FF = 10, ect), I think you'll need to map the 6 on wheel buttons, personally I use the tuning menu and the horn, otherwise can't think of much else. What set up are you using it with? Also what deal did you get?

Enjoy! 👍 It's a brilliant wheel.

I don't know how much of a modder you are, but down the line their are a myriad of things that can be done to the G27 as well. Plenty of time for that though, you might not ever need to touch it....

I replaced the springs for the pedals. It is pretty easy to do. Just unscrew the black plastic base from the rest of the unit, pull apart the red pedal unit and replace the desired parts.

I would take the brake spring and put it in the gas pedal. I would then get a stiffer, progressive spring for the brake. If you want you can also put a little bit of foam/sponge at the bottom of the pedal. This gives it is nice damped feel.

(this is for a car but you get the idea)

For the clutch I would get a progressive spring (stiffer than stock) with the tighter coiling in the middle of the spring. It doesn't really do anything special it just gives the pedal a unique feel.

Finally I would put a little piece of yellow electrical tape at the top center of the wheel. This mimics the design of the Fanatec GT3RS.

You can do all that for under $10. 👍

If your pedals are too close together. If you use a alan hex key. You can unscrew the pedal plates. Underneath them you will see slots (three of them) where you can move them over from left to right. See....

I moved my clutch and brake over all the way to the left and my gas in the middle. Now it is easier to heal toe.

Keep those cavities behind the pedals clean and free of pet hair. Go back there every now and again and clean them out by hand. There's grease in there that can get gunked up.

This. Saves you a lot of headaches. The when the potentiometers get gunked up you can get ghosting pedal inputs... which can be very aggravating. It is far easy to just take the base off and then do a quick clean every month than disassemble everything a year or two down the road.
