Big News: Indy Racing League cars & tracks in GT5

The best races are the ones where the track starts wet, and ends dry. The question of when to pit for dry weather tires always makes for awesome TV, and I am sure it would be just as exciting for racing video games.

still the biggest question is when is EU and NA release and is it true that it will be a late Nov 2010 release for NA and EU will be much later as gamestop mentioned.

Indeed... in some ways I hope its really late to motivate me to just buy the Japanese version :p If it comes out a month later I'll be twiddling my thumbs for the whole month waiting for it, but if its due out 3 months later I'll happily just jump on the japanese band wagon ;)

As long as 30 identical cars with 15 or so different team liveries don't count as 15 different models within the 1000, i'll be happy.
Well, that wasn't the case for the different liveried F2007 models in GT5P or the Pescarolo C60 and Audi R8 in GT4, so I doubt that'll be the case in GT5.

I highly doubt that the PAL and NTSC release will be six months later then the NTSC-J release. That would not be a wise marketing decision.

You know something, GTPlanet... I blogged on the possibility that Indy cars COULD be featured for GT5. I did a speculation video regarding other formula cars. I even said that if PD was going to include the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, they NEED to include the IndyCar Series cars. So for the first time in GT history, formula cars other than F1 cars will be featured. This is a HUGE pickup for Gran Turismo 5. When F1 cars were first included, there were MANY tracks I'd love to race on in the GT series with Indy cars. This is a serious pickup for Gran Turismo 5. Now my want to get a PlayStation 3 will only grow.

Awesome way to start the new year from PD. May be underwhelming to some, but this is brand-new to me.
So how quick do you think a IndyCar will go on the Circuit de la Sarthe in regards to the lap time?:sly:

I would be nice to see a DTM and ETCC license.
Add BTCC and the V8 Supercars(if possible) series to the list. ;)

my local Target Store has reservation for GT5 already. they are saying 20100330 US release, or 03-30-2010 for all you civilians.

Especially when Mr. Kazunori has guaranteed all versions will be finished at the same time, and promised it will be released in NA and EU very shortly after the Japanese release.

^Every car is Dallara actually ;)
Engines are Honda, car is Dallara.

And its not at all like F1, in F1 all teams must construct their own car and there are multiple suppliers of engines, brakes, etc.
No countries may have more than one race except for the European GP/Pacific/San Marino.
Points system is completely different, and qualifying.

In fact the only similarity is they are both open wheel sports.

It would be an interesting mix to race F1 and IRL cars and see the end result. Who is going to dominate? Only GT5 can make that possible, hopefully.

^Putting that into pespective I wonder if the two will even be in the same vehicle class.

Between F1 cars and IRL cars my money goes for the F1 cars.👍

Considering IRL cars only make 650hp compared to F1's 780hp, I would give to the edge to F1 as well.

Not if we are able to put them in the same PowerPoints. Although F1 cars would probably have more downforce avialable so they would be quicker in the turns.

But Indycars are optimized for high speed (200+ mph) driving, at least with the speedway wing package. I wonder if the correct wing package will be automatically fitted depending on the track type...

That wouldn't be a very good comparison than.

KNEW IT!! I knew the SLS AMG would be on the cover!!

(It was rather obvious)

Yeah it wouldn't, but of course if you leave everything to it's defualt settings horsepower will most likely be more dominant so F1 would rule. But just to make things intresting we would be able to tune the cars to even them out with thier real world physics and in different tracks. I was just wondering which car most players would choose over the other.

I personally dont feel its terribly relevant. Its not like F1 is the fastest possible cars or Indy is the fastest possible cars, both are limited by their rules and tracks they drive on so you're just comparing apples to oranges. If you gave designers in either motorsport enough money and took away the rules limitations they'd both be able to make something a hell of a lot faster.

Some ******* *******, smart-butt individuals may argue that it IS a wise marketing decision to deliberately delay the release of GT5. They'll mumble about God of War and selling consoles or something. But evoking EXTREME HATE AND ANGER among your most loyal consumers is not good marketing :) sorry

I've read the article all the way through twice now and forgive me for being pessimistic, but the only track we have seen in the dark is a track that we have only ever seen in the dark (if it is indeed SSR5). I'm still not taking this as firm evidence for anything regarding interchangeable lighting. Magazines can still be wrong, everything else they have told us are things that have already been mentioned by Kaz himself or credible information presented to us on this site already.

It's interesting to see Indy mentioned for the first time. It makes sense in a way now we have Indianapolis but...I'm just not buying it, not yet anyway. I need some sort of official announcement.

weather and night racing is magic, day and night cycle would complete the trick.

i noticed on the 370z a clock in the dash pod saying 5:32, if my memory serves me correct the pod in the 350z in gt5p just has dashes in it. so was wondering if anyone knows if a real 350z has a clock in one of the pods and if so may this be a clue to a day/night cycle? the fact that they have put a actual time of day in the car?

350Z has a speed readout instread (which does work in GT5P)

Seeing as its the Official Playstation Magazine(and not just EB games or some other gaming publication), I'm not sure how much more official you can get.

I know, and I do appreciate that I've also bought the magazine myself quite a fair bit in the past. When they say 'Official' I always thought it was because they were endorsed by Sony, as in they receive some of the profits generated from the publication not necessarily having a direct impact on the content shown. I would just like confirmation from Polyphony. Like many things in the past things get speculated, people get hyped and then it all falls down because it's not true.

True, except for the limitations of the game physics will allow for each car. Thats what I wanted to see. In the real world with F1 rules to be able to develope the car throuhout the season would give the F1 car too much of an advantage were as IRL car with IRL rules a set design for the entire season so they are stuck with what they have and only improve on setup settings.

They are not in the same class but GT seems to allow mixed classes in a race. Don't they? :)
