Is two things.

1st - Everyone wants to be in the lead by the first turn.

2nd - People don't know how to race. It's pass the guy in front at all costs, instead of follow and pick your spots to pass.

Let me add a caveat to that. Few have 3 screens, so we don't have peripheral vision on the track. We can't see the guy beside us or in our blind zone. Then you want to pass on a tight corner. That won't work.

very very true. In crappy rooms I tend to chill out and let everyone bash into each other and then pass em when they're in the grass. and if im certain im faster than the guy I do pick my corner.

-if you crash don't block the track, look before you slam the gas
-if you're faster than me, pass me don't ram me. usually I let faster guys go without a fight but still get REAMED from behind
-lol brakes

Agreed, and I'll add.
3rd: Too much bump passing. My rear bumper is not a brake.
4th: Dare I say at the risk of being flamed here:
There seems to be a need for something other than the current penalty system. Perhaps along the line of iracing in the form of a points system. Points would be added or deducted at the end of the race in respect, or lack of in your driving style. Tired of receiving a penalty for being rear ended.

I'm gonna blame this one on PD. Why? Career mode has ZERO damage. If you are able to wreck your car believe me YOU WILL drive differently. Answer: Set the room to heavy damage. Not. Want to clear out a room? Set it to heavy damage or strong penalty. If people had played the game with heavy damage from release date the rooms would be A LOT better!

5. When someone spins out they don't bother to think "is the road clear of on coming traffic?" they just bolt right onto the track causing another accident.

Excellent point, someone give that man a cigar!

I have the 2 buttons on my G25's wheel set to look left & right respectively, so that's not an issue for those of us who've got them set up like that. DS3 users can always set the L1 & R1 buttons to do the same job, with the same results.

👍

You can also put your course map on "2", which helps you keep an eye on anyone that's within a couple car lengths of you.

That's a good idea, although I prefer mine set to display the full track. I always use cockpit cam in Premium cars, & if the mirrors are on screen in a particular car, that's great too.

:)

Yeah, the online lobbies are full of drivers that always try to ignore the physical laws. Thank's god it's only a game. Let's hope they won't drive that way in real life:scared:.

It's hard to find good drivers but when you finaly find them, you appreciate them more, and you feel a real pleasure of racing online.

The point is not to be first at any cost, but to drive clean and have fun from a perfect race:).

I usually end up going wide if there are a bunch of idiots to scout for potential rammers.

Displaying the full track is nice if you don't know it, but I know all the tracks by heart or can usually learn them in a couple laps. Since I use the hood/roof view to play with, I use the track map on the level 2 setting as my rear-view mirror pretty much.

@ the original post:

In my opinion, a lot of the problems in most open-lobby rooms stem from the fact no one wants to race to last more than 5 minutes. 2-3 laps, maybe 5, at most courses, one lap at the longer courses, means that you HAVE TO be in front in the first corner to have a chance. This means that those at the end of the grid HAVE TO plow through the field to have a chance.

What's the problem with racing for 8-10 laps? or even throw a couple laps at the 'Ring, and give the driver's a chance to get back what the less-than-stellar drivers take in the first few corners. Many of us drivers don't start "well", but can make up ground well given enough laps.

But 5 minute races are not where it can be done.

Agree there! When I host it's a min of 4 laps. And when I go 2 laps on tracks like Nurb 24hr I always get those who are yelling for 1 lap.

Open Lobby should have room settings. Novice, Intermediate and Professional. One cannot enter the higher rated room if the driver has not earned a certain license. Licensee can be revoke if the license holder gets to many penalties or gets kicked out of too many rooms for bad behavior. Pro lobbies should always have full damage, penalties, all aids turned off and will qualify for a ranking on the GT leader board by official PD or GT academy regional races and can compete in nationals and international competition hosted by PD or GT Academy as they progress.

Really depends on the room and the people you are racing with.

Biggest problems online

1. Song with the kiddies singing

2. No respect between racers (except for that time I was racing with a bunch of Russian dudes)

3. If I want to race with low HP race cars I set a limit but everyone complains, they say my race sucks, because they can't drive their 800 HP Enzos

4. No one is ever happy with any of the race settings

5. No one every drives actual race cars, tuned cars, or cars that take skill. It's all street/road cars. Or overpowered cars they just grind and cut grass/walls, because they have so much power and you don't need to stay on the track. They drive the cars that are "recommended" and free in the menu (why was this even included?). Everyone drives enzos, 458s, Zondas... etc.

6.Getting kicked because you aren't from the country without warning. I was searching for a room and I found one hosted by a guy from the UK, I go in and instantly, "YOU'RE NOT FROM THE UK GET OUT OF HERE, WE DON'T WANT YOU!!!1!!1!!!!1!" *Kicked. (I've got nothing against the UK, but the guys in that room were really upset over something.)

7.I mostly do track days, I don't like racing online because it's an absolute mess because people keep logging off until there are 5 people in a race.

^
The above get my raged.

agree with all of you guys.
and it's not only in the race , also on trackdays.

example;

i'm driving my stock alfa 8c on the ring for some practice and an not so nice persone pulls up with his extremely not cool 430 maxed out ugly scuderia en just keeps bumping into me , so I steer my 8c to the left side of the track to let him pas , but no , he has to be an anoying '' Im the best'' guy.👎:grumpy:

BTW. do you guys steer to the side to make space for faster cars behind you at free runs or trackdays?:)

I always make room, I go to the right and lower my speed.

If I'm to pass anyone I flash my headlights.

I guess this almost happens in many public rooms.

We've got a club running which is working really well called Legend of the Streets. Although it's mainly 1v1, it creates a real battle experience. We've usually only get the two players battling out on the track, and a bunch of others in the lobby watching.

The drivers are very well mannered and know their braking points. Yesterday, we had 2 rotaties battling out back and forth for about 15 mins until a winner was decided. And it was intense.

- Racing soft tyres.....

I only race the NS, NS24h and NS VLN (Type V) online. To me it is annoying that most of the people just race 1 lap on the tracks and so use racing soft tyres.

I mean, you nearly are forced to use them too if you want a chance to keep up.

Collision in general!

SOmetimes it's on, sometimes it's off! I late brake into a corner, take the outside line, and end up with a guy flying through me!:scared:

THen, when I brake early, I become a football, and fly into the dirt:grumpy:

The ultimate solution would simply to toggle collisions on/off.
THat, plus track-cutter penalties would solve this crisis!

I now never race online unless it's on here. I only ever go into cruise lobbies or free runs these days. Because as aforementioned all you get are a ton of rammers who whine on about rubbish, no matter what PP limit you're at and no matter what the room comment says. It's just so damn annoying these days :grumpy:

Pro lobbies should always have full damage, penalties, all aids turned off...

I disagree with this. After months of frustration, I don't bother with the penalties anymore. To begin with, on long races, where the leader may be lapping the slower cars, or in cases where some players are on a different pit strategy, the whole ghost car business is full of bugs. Sometimes lapped cars are ghosted, sometimes they aren't. Sometimes, one is and another isn't. And it's no different at the start with cars ghosting or unghosting left and right if the field bunches up together. There's too much temptation for some people to drive through ghost cars and this completely ruins the racing. No racing series in the world (at least on this planet) has cars that phase in and out of existence and it doesn't belong in a game with sim like aspirations either. Unfortunately, there's no way to disassociate ghosting with penalties. In my opinion, no cars should ghost, EVER, in a serious lobby.

Likewise, penalties themselves are inconsistent. Sometimes there's a bit of lag and you end up making contact with cars unintentionally, and there may be no harm done from a minor tap, but if you're in a big group, you can be assessed a penalty unfairly for being in the middle of such a foray. And some of the penalty zones can be treacherous. I can see trying to stop people from corner cutting. But there are some tracks that allow wild, blatant corner cutting in some areas, and others, where if two cars are fighting side by side, and run just a little wide in a spot (something that by definition would still be within the OLR rules) you end up getting penalties that can last as long as 20 seconds. Hardly fair either.

By the same token, after a lot of back and forth, I've come to conclusion that full damage, especially on longer races and longer tracks, is just simply unfair. Especially if you turn off penalties. Just a small amount of lag at the start of a race with a large or full lobby can have an unfair impact. All it takes is one person with a laggy connection, and there only needs to be a small amount of lag, and that 8 lap race on the Nürburgring can be pretty much ruined because it takes so long to get back to the pits. Yes, I realize, sometimes, that's the way it goes. In real life, if you make a mistake on the track, you pay for it. But in real life, cars don't randomly jump around the track or phase in and out. So you end up adjusting your driving style

I do agree about the driving aids though. They shouldn't be on in a 'serious' lobby. And I wish PD would give us the ability to force ABS off as well.

I don not have wide screen tv so I can't even see out of my rear view mirror and side mirror. Also I hate it were everyone crashes on the first corner so they can be first. 2. Hate it when I'm on circuit de la sarth and when ur on the mulsanne straight, people push you toward the wall slowing you down. I had it done yesterday to me.

I have a slower car most of the time, even at max allowed pp, maybe because I don't use the japanese cars, but it is boring (ok perhaps I am not so good but this happens also in straight roads). The connection problems and the title of the rooms not fitting the actual rules in the room is also obviously boring. Mostly going to "Clio trophy" rooms now so I am sure it is fair (when the rule correctly applies)

Biggest problem appears to be the rooms you guys end up in.

I've befriended a guy who hosts most nights and we have a regular bunch of racers, and any noobs who join tend to tow the line as the regulars 'manners' appear to rub off..... and if they don't they get a warning and/or get booted.

Secret to online - find a bunch of regulars, similar minded racers and host your own lobby where you can control the entrants.

Had a night last night racing 400pp cars, awesome! + if anyone wanted to up the PP had a choice, shut up and play on, or go find a higher PP room.

you know that a bunch of them are probably not much safer on the roads...

There are tons of things wrong with online in GT5.

- Everybody uses Vipers, Veyrons, GT-Rs, Speed 12s, Corvettes, SLRS, etc. lt gets old. Fast.

- Misleading room titles. l always find myself in misleading rooms where people are just drag racing and crashing in to each other.

- being punted off the course constantly because l'm in the slower car. Gee, you're in a Viper and l'm in an Alfa Romeo Spider, l guess that gives you the right to knock me off the course like l'm a football. Not.

- When l try to pass a faster car that is moving slower than l am and they speed up to the same speed that l'm going and proceed to hog the track. Nice one.

- When the host of a room leaves and the new host completely ruins the room by changing everything.

- Disconnections

- People who rely on the use of Veyrons and X1s to win a drag race. Losers.

- People who insult you by saying something about your mom.

- ln general, people who say 'your mom' added to some crappy insult. Like they've got nothing better to say.

My biggest problem is the ridiculous drag effect, seriously.
Everytime I see someone or myself gaining 30 km/h only by being 200 m behind a car I shout "Oh God"
