If youre looking for a new car, Id wait on the new Camaro...

Since I will be in the market for a new car in about a year, I have to make a decesion if I want to go along and get another VW (preferably an '03 Wolfsburg 1.8T) or a Chevrolet (preferably a '98 Camaro Z/28 coupe)... They would probably cost about the same to insure (as VWs are insane these days), and they get about the same fuel mileage (which is somewhat sad)... All I have to take into consideration is the snow...

Maybe I should try to find a VW Passat W8 instead...

The new Camaro won't suit me at all being as it is a coupe.

After going to the NAIAS today, I really feel in love with the new GTi. What an awesome car.

Ya, the MKV...I can't wait till they hit show rooms so I can take one for a spin.

Blazin if you do get a CTS don't do something gay like this:

Those wheels are ugly and too large and wide for the car. They stuck out 1" past the fenders--can't really tell in that photo. I hate people that put stupidly too large or gay rims on thier rides.

...Well, I got to take a look at the MKV Jetta GLI with the DSG, and I was impressed. As a self proclaimed VW-fanatic, it was everything I had hoped it would be...

But I still wonder if the DSG expirience has ruined me... Not that it is bad, but that it is so much better than a conventional manual that there really isnt any reason why not to cough up the $900 for the option...

If you'd like a somewhat-less-accurate preview now, rather than just waiting until the GTI comes out, you could go test-drive a Jetta GLI. Then take that experience and imagine what it would be like without that trunk hanging out in the back. ;)

Actually I drove a GLI the other day, a guy I know at school bought one, I liked it even though it was just a quick drive around campus.

The Audi A3 is a lot more expensive and it's ugly as hell. I'm not going to buy a Golf in Audi drag when I can buy a good looking Golf.

Poverty
Or go test drive a audi a3 2.0T without the quattro and then imagine the golf with less weight.

Golf GTi = Kerb weight (kg): 1,340.

Audi A3 = Kerb weight (kg): 1,340.

So with the A3 I would be buying an uglier Golf that is more expensive and has more crap I don't need.

MKV GTi

PRICE: £19,995
Kerb weight (kg) 1,336
0-60 mph (secs) 7.2
Max speed (mph) 146
Combined mpg 34.9

Audi A3 2.0T FSI Sport

PRICE: £21,070
Kerb weight (kg) 1,275
0-60 mph (secs) 6.9
Max speed (mph) 147
Combined mpg 36.2

Audi also has better interior and more bootspace and slightly better leg room aswell and knee room.

What I really want to know is why the audi is lighter than the golf. I can only think of the fact that audi uses alot of aluminium in their vehicles to help reduce weight.

READ ONLY IF SCEPTICAL OF THE DATA (its a waste of time otherwise)
I was scepticle of whatcar data although its arguably the most relaible and reputable publication on the face of the earth so I checked on the audi site. The car does indeed weigh only 1275KG...But then I noticed I was looking at the non turbo version and the turbo version on their site is listed at 1430KG.

But then I decided to check the weight of their quattro models which was also listed at 1430KG so I have come to the conclusion that 1430kg for the FWD version was a data anomoly and it does indeed weigh in at 1275kg.

So to make sure I checked the weight of the FWD DSG model and it weighed in at 1370kg. I blame the extra weight on the gearbox.

The audi A3 is not ugly

The Audi is extremely ugly...from the front fenders back...it looks like they didn't even try. Plus I've never considered Audi's stellar in the looks department. However the GTI looks amazing no matter where you are staring.

There is no way you'd ever get me in an Audi...plus like I've said the A3 is nothing more then a uglified Golf that cost a lot more because of the name on the front. Everyone complains about GM doing this, but look here is an example of VW doing it.

And you have to remember I'm diehard GM...so a car, especially a non-American car, that gets me as excitied as the MKV GTI must have something uber sweet about it.

I like new cars for whatever reason, although I've always wanted an older car to screw around with...but I'll check out the site.

The differences between the A3 and GTI are pretty miniscule, other than the fact that the A3 has four doors and cloth seats at $25K while the GTI opens up for a bit cheaper, and it is a helluva lot faster.

A GLI with the 6-speed manual was recently tested in a C/D comparo:
* 0-60 in 6.4
* 0-100 in 17.3
* 1/4 mile in 15.1 @ 93MPH
* 129 (gov) top speed
* 70-0 in 154 feet
* .86g skidpad rating
* 62.6mph lane change

Consider that the Golf is smaller, lighter, and will be much more nimble... Then imagine what the car can do with the DSG box checked...
