Do cars on gt5 actually need broke in or is it just a saying ?

They gain some horsepower at first, from driving them, so it's not just a saying.

New cars and used cars with rebuilt engines both gain HP when run. Usually it's about 200 miles. Then, oil change and you see a nice HP bump.

But if u buy a new car and don't run it but just change the oil the bhp still increases does it go up more when run ?

Yes it will go up when you start to drive it aswell.

Yes.
Lets say new car, 100 hp.
Oil change, 104 hp.
200km driving, 109hp.

Your car is fully broken in after roughly 300 kilometers (180 miles) and needs an oilchange to maintain the power after roughly every 200 kilometers (120 miles).
So if you change the oil before driving it and again after 200 km your car reaches the full amount of horsepower at around 300 km (sometimes a bit sooner or later depending on the car).
This is when you only drive it offline though, I've found out that it takes longer to break in a car when you use it online, seems the mileage gathered in online races hasn't got the same effect as the mileage gathered offline.

Yes, cars actually break-in. In GT5, the break-in period lasts from 0-300km. However, it can happen again if you overhauled the engine*, then the break-in period lasts another 300km, but the linear HP increase stays the same. And there's no stopping it on brand new cars, as its engine is brand new and never actually taken out for driving. Oil does pretty much the same thing, but only lasts for 200km until you need an Oil change.

* Engine Overhauls should only be done on cars with very high mileage, like a Jaguar E-Type having 12,500km. Not sure exactly which km range you should do it, but somewhere around every 5,000-10,000km is recommended. After that, the engine just assumes it's brand new w/ zero mileage, breaking-in again. Doesn't matter how high the mileage, it still does the same effect. Also, If you don't do an engine overhaul on a high-mileage car, then the HP will keep going down and down, but in a slow and linear manner. Not sure if this is true, though.

Really? But do they still break in eventually if you only race them online?

To break into a car, you just pull right up, preferably right in front of it. You press thr "step out of car" button, you walk to the other car, smash the window, pull the driver out, injure him (so he can't fight back), you get in and speed away.
Is there some other way to "break in" a car? :D

This is not a grand theft auto forum ;)

It sometimes depends on the car you get because some standard cars get broken into but they have to be at real low mileage.

Lol, close enough.

I never realised how much thought has went into brand new cars in this game basically on other cars it's plant the foot and that's you away lol
