More unusual than brilliant but an interesting look back in time nevertheless, a local Welsh TV station interviews Ayrton Senna as part of a news piece on McLaren testing at Pembrey in 1988.
I think I've followed Formula One as close as possible since the very first Adelaide GP in 1985.
I watched whatever I could on the box, and once I was working, I bought every edition of some magazines.
Having said all that, I cannot recall ever seeing the car featured in the video above.
It is the first time I've ever seen what I'll call the McLaren MP4/4B.
I just cannot believe it has taken 37 odd years for it to happen 🤯
I can recall the MP4/3 1987 car with the Honda engine as a testing hack, and can imagine in comparison to the above, it being a relatively easy conversion TAG to Honda.
To go from Turbo 1.5L V6 to 3.5L V10 in a chassis designed for the smaller engine though.
That's a whole new level requiring a virtual fresh sheet design from the fuel cell to the rear wing!
Besides McLaren, the only other I can recall seeing, was the Ferrari and IIRC, that car was started super early by Barnard so they could work on the semi-auto transmission.
