We had a "data-logger" feature in GT3. Maybe it'll come back with more features this time?
I just booted up Kaido Racer 2 again.
And one thing I like about Kaido's ECU/ROM engine tuning, apart from the scalable power/torque graph, is that you can adjust where you want peak torque to occur. Right now I don't have the expensive parts for my AE85 so I can't adjust it more than 500rpm either way, but I assume once I get better equipment I will be able to do more.
It also shows the before and after curves overlayed onto each other.
You can also save different ECU maps and switch between them
On the left side of the graph - you have your engine tune level packages and turbo types you can select and immediately see the graph change to match. Makes it easy to mix and match and get exactly what your after
With the graph screen still showing, you can also bring up parts at the bottom and see what effect they have on the power/torque curve when you enable/disable. In the game there are different manufacturers of the same parts and their not all the same.
You can snapshot a combination of parts to comapre to another, very handy.
All things GT5 could use

Can you get Kaido Racer 2 on pc? im curious to give it a go![]()
It's only available for the PS2. In the US it was called "Tokyo Extreme Racer Drift 2", which apparently works no problem in PCSX2. It's just a case of getting hold of a copy of the game; there's a few on eBay, and Amazon's "affiliates" stock it. Can you tell I'm after it too?
Before anyone says anything, my PS2's had it. It only intermittently plays games. There's a problem with the "radial" actuator for the laser carrier; the plastic pin that sits in the "screw" drive is worn, and so the DVD-Drive has dodgy "tracking". I've repaired it twice, but it's only served to accelerate the wear on the pin...
I've always assumed that after each change in Gran Turismo the ECU is reprogrammed (or carburator retuned) for the "optimal" power output, and that the "ECU part" was an upgrade with a more advanced model which gives a little bit more room for improvements, however I agree too that that part should do more, like for example adding options for tweaking engine parameters by the player (rev limiter, VTEC/VVT timing if available, spark/turbo/fuel maps - but probably this should have to be done with several fixed presets or it would get too complicated - etc.).
i want different flywheels, i want carbon prop shafts, overbore and stuff!!
blown engines after milage and engine rebuild would be good too...
While there is lightweight flywheels, carbon driveshafts, and an increase in displacement in most engines, those are taken care off. However, I wish there was an engine rebuild because cars that are used don't have the same hp rating as they did when they were low mileage, and finding some cars with low miles is really hard
Engine rebuild, replacement or swap would be nice.

But it's half the fun. If they had an engine rebuild option then the game would be more money based. I liked how you have to find the 6.2 or 0 mileage cars.finding some cars with low miles is really hard
Really. I want it like it was in GT2. If it's like in GT3-4 I'll be very disappointed.Has anybody noticed that in GT1 and GT2 engine tuning was far more realistic than in newer games in the franchise?
...
In GT3 and 4 PD for some reason simplified everything. Most cars (there were very few exceptions) with tuning just gained power and torque more and more, with no drawback.
So I was going through the screens again yesterday, and I noticed how they show us in depth of the tuning
[GTAuto]
And under the GT Auto menu there is these off shoot tuning options. I think they made it more generalized, not having to go to each individual dealer to buy upgrades, but it's all in one area, instead. Although there aren't options for all these things (there is an engine tuning option, but there are no tire option, exhaust option, etc)

By the way, the screenshots above (not counting the first one) are from "GT Auto", but in the latest screenshots of the "My Home" screen, a "Parts Shop" section can be seen.
Will the Engine balancing and Port/Polish options be in the game?
