Immediate thought was "Is this a genuine choice or the lure of some subsidies?"

Beeb
although the Welsh government will not comment on the amount of support it is giving.

To me, that indicates a significant amount otherwise there'd be nothing worth denying but I won't complain too much. It's great news for the country and a major notch on our corporate bedpost.

Well it's always a choice, but I can say from personal experience that WAG fund a lot of training and potentially the site (unsure who owns it). It's certainly the main reason my employer is in Wales.

So.... Tony Blackburn has been sacked by the Beeb for not co-operating with the Savile investigation. Suspicious.

I also read that Auntie has been cleared of any corporate responsibility.

His story is different. He says that the BBC report that he was interviewed twice by senior staff many year ago about an incident involving Savile. He denies that these interviews ever took place.

Grauniad

Nosey passenger reads "prayer" over other passenger's shoulder; passenger is escorted off the plane by armed police.
I had to read the link to find out if it was the passenger reading over the shoulder that got punted for invading another person's space, or the passenger reading the prayer for...reading a prayer. Such is the pc world we live in, you just never know who is offending whom and when.

No UK thread for this... more terrorist bombs discovered by NI police, thought to be part of a 1916 anniversary campaign. I visited a British Army base (mainland) earlier and, despite the nominal alert level remaining the same, tension was clearly high.

I'm friends with many Irish people to the point where I see some of them at least three or four times a week. They're embarrassed at these actions and consistently say that what the IRA do is not representative of the will of the Republic Of Ireland or of the citizens of the Republic Of Ireland. I'd like to think people will bear that in mind if, but hopefully not when, further disaster occurs.

1916 was always going to be a hot topic this year, particularly with the inconclusive Irish general election having just taken place, but it's not the time for martyrdom or vilification. In fact, the feelings I get from people is that it's going to be used as point scoring by the two main Irish parties in claiming that the rebels who instigated the insurrection were "their people" and not those of the other parties.

If Ireland is to take a lesson from 1916 it ought to be a celebration of the advancement for the creation of their state but perhaps the declaration of a secular state, something which seemed to have been 'lost in translation' over the years.

If Britain is to take a lesson from 1916 it ought to admit properly that what went on was quite wrong instead of a brush stroke "I wish we had done things differently" from the Queen.

At any rate, I hope there's no trouble from either side in Northern Ireland. We shall see.

Regarding the news about John 'Goldfinger' Palmer, the gangster suspected of being involved with the Hatton Garden heist who was found dead in his garden. I just heard this gem....

"At first the Police indicated that his death was nothing suspicious however the post mortem later revealed that he had in fact been shot 6 times."

LOL WUT :dunce: What Police numpty did they send to attend that call!

Well it would be suspicious if he'd been shot 6 times and was found sipping margaritas.

In fairness it was a professional hit that took space in a CCTV dead-spot on his property. He was shot in a very recent scar from a major heart operation. The officers who attended have been disciplined but have not been found to have been grossly negligent given the circumstances.

RIP Paul Daniels - bit of a strange obituary in the Guardian today, which basically says 'at least he wasn't a paedophile'.

That's a reflection of the retroactive culture within the entertainment industry. And a horrible one at that.
