I don't like that this was all reported at all. It needed to be kept quiet to give the government options in how to deal with it. With the media posting the story everywhere the government has only really had one option to deal with it and that is the harsh way.

British intelligence almost certainly knew who these guys were already - but they aren't going to publicly say as much.

My understanding is that part of the reason the EU/UN condemned the Russians so quickly was due to a UK listening station based in Cyprus that basically intercepted all of the communications to and from the Russian military to the agents in the UK.
You have to imagine that if that is true, they knew who the agents were.

What other way is there?
The Russian government has basically laughed off the notion of any guilt. Sanctions are the only tool 'we' against them.

I think this witch-hunt is unfair and uncalled for. Soldiers and GRU members still need holidays!
Yes, holidays specifically in the UK, shrunken husk of empire and currently world's foremost theme park for irredentists, refugees, spies and activists.

No, please, they just wanted to see the church and the spire!
It’s such a shame their Russian upbringing didn’t prepare them for the harsh realities of half an inch of slush to contend with....

No problem here:

This is pretty ****ed up, an undercover agent, meets woman under false identity, marries and has children with her, still while undercover...
But not massively unprecedented.

Do you remember the very, very ill-advised Lush campaign earlier in the year? The one that was grossly and obviously anti-police? It was actually supposed to be about this very issue.

Indeed I do, didn't people boycott them instead of actually thinking about the issues being raised?
The problem was that the campaign itself just painted cops as liars. There was no nuance to it at all - you really had to dig to find out what the point of it was. Anyone walking past a shop window just saw "Paid to lie", police tape, #Spycops and so on.
Yeah, Lush said it would pull the campaign for the safety of its staff, who had been "intimidated" by ex-police officers... but curiously declined to report any examples of the intimidation... Sounds rather face-saving to me.

As for the complaints about nasty Tweets from "those in high office"... it was most MPs saying it was a pretty poor campaign that seemed overtly anti-police.

Yeah this was my reaction too it too as, the report that came out wasn’t widely picked up in the press at the time... so the two things didn't really click together...

...though I guess it’s a difficult one to make a clear and quickly digestible campaign on?

iOS won’t let me select the other part of your post, yay!
But I can get behind people being ****** and even lying about being ex-cops. As someone who once worked in a shop, people are quick to be as ****** as possible for no real reason. So yeah, face-saving perhaps, but theirs probably a kernel of truth in there somewhere

Is it past time to ban liquor on Flights?

Drunk Woman yells at in flight entertainment screen, gets escorted to the back of the plane where she assaults two flight attendants. After buring over 2267 Kilos of fuel, the flight had to return to Heathrow:

Drunk Woman slaps another Women on flight, flight returned to Bristol where she was arrested:

Drunk women gives laps dances, flashes her breasts, does cart wheels down the isle, incites riot:

And there's so many more stories like these, I read an article last year about how drunken arrests aboard Aircraft are up 50%, that was in 2017. I bet that number goes up even more this year.

Just have the airlines sue the people for the fuel used/wasted?

I think the issue is people don’t think there will be any serious repercussions?

I think the problem is that a lot of adults are nothing more than impetuous little children and then you sprinkle liquor on top of that and POW! This is what you get.

Now that's what I call in-flight entertainment... (though I'd bet that Ryanair would charge extra for it)

There's no need to ban alcohol on flights (or airports) - just don't allow inebriated people on planes and/or stiffen penalties for people who don't know how to behave.

Alcohol impairment is more pronounced on a flight and so it is probably more common for people to over-do it, esp. people with a low tolerance to alcohol in the first place. But the real problem is the lack of respect and consideration some people have for the flight crew/attendants and other passengers - there are plenty of belligerent asshats out there who cause trouble without a drop of alcohol, yet they deserve the same punishment - alcohol may make such behaviour more likely, but people should take responsibility for their own behaviour, whether influenced by alcohol or not.

My friend has aviophobia; we travel by plane 4-6 times a year with our sports team and he can't settle unless he has some whiskeys both at the airport and on the plane to calm his nerves. He's too busy focusing on not dying to act the maggot in-flight.

My other teammate is a 🤬 who drinks excessively for a skinny bag of bones and he pretends to be more drunk than he is to get away with acting like a 🤬, whether on a plane, bus or in general.

There are two types of people. It will always depend on the individual.

How are we mortals supposed to get through those longer 6 plus hour flights.

Basically every non domestic flight I have, I will be smashed and time flies.
