What is the difference between Time Trials and Arcade Mode?

Just noticed that there are both entries (for GT4), on this page:

GTPlanet Leaderboards

As far as I know, Time Trials are accessed from Arcade Mode, so they should be the same thing.

No need, in my opinion, to put them both, as it would only spread the submissions in two different places, making it hard to have a continuum.

Well, some cars can be tuned in Arcade Mode differently than in GT mode, such as the Motor Carriage getting modded to an outstanding 1.2kW. I think that the arcade section should just have two settings options, in which you enter the increase/decrease in horsepower/weight.

The Gran Turismo 4 list, I tried submitting a time for New York and it wasn't on there.

In GT4 > GT mode > Nürburgring when you try to sort by car name it seems to put the times in some random order. Is it supposed to sort the cars alphapetically? Small thing really since sorting by horsepower is actually more informative, but it would be nice to compare the result against the ones with the same car.

Simulation Mode does not necessarily mean that you have to perform the best lap during a race. Simulation Mode (which, in my opinion, should be changed to Gran Turismo Mode just to avoid further confusion) means that you can take your own vehicle, with your own choice of mods, on a circuit and enter the "Practice", which corresponds to Time Trials in Arcade Mode.

Sorry to be an idiot and labour the point but is that the practice before the race? I'm not sure that I can save the replay from that.

This way, you do not have to run an entire race and have it "clean" (I don't see why you would want to have the whole entire race clean anyway, just the lap you submit needs to be).

I don't, I accept that I can't run a whole race clean against AI and that in long races I will clip a wall or something. I was hopeing that I could enter times from my fastest lap and fastest race records without having to re-run the courses again. If during that lap or race I clipped a wall then it makes my time easier to beat if someone else tries and doesn't clip the wall. Maybe I could submist the times and then later I can re-run the courses to create a replay that can be used to verify the times.

When you are in Gran Turismo Mode, on the main map, there are 4 green icons at each corner of the map (pretty much) with City Courses, World Circuits, Original Circuits and Dirt and Snow. Here you can enter any track you want (within each of the four categories) and "Practice" without having to race with opponents. In other words, you can make solo races against the clock, as you would do if you were in Time Trial, in Arcade Mode. All you have to do then, is save the best ghost replay (else it will save the whole entire session) and you are good to go.

I was submitting a time, and I found you left out all versions of the Nissan 350 Z except the gt4 limited edition z33. I used the 350 z concept race car, and theres also a stock 350 z, a roadster 350z, and one more if I remember correctly. Just lettin ya know .

I try and slip stream the AI when I race so granted that would make a difference in lap times and overall race times. I guess I will just have to do the Time Trial runs but first I'm going to start on GT2.

You and everybody else... Nope, I'm sad but I don't even own a copy of GT4 yet. About 2 years after it was released I bought a pre-owned copy of GT3 which I have done up to the professional league but not in any serouis way. I am 4 races from completeing GT in a serouis way, that is every car that you win racing every race they can legally enter and then some cars that I liked the look of. I have over 30 cars and have kept a record of how they do in the races, some are a real surprise, like the [R]Demio racing GV300 placed 5th, I was expecting 6th. I have also kept fastest lap and fastest race records which I was hoping I could post on the leader board, but apparantly not. Next in line is GT2, then 3 and finally 4 but by then there could well be a 5th or 6th game.

Arcade Mode covers are wide variety of time types, like Quick Races and Free Runs, doesn't it? Time Trials is a subsection of that, which has certain limitations (such as stopping you after crashing or going off course).

On the all of the lists to submit times for GT4, you are missing the Infiniti G35 Coupe, you have the sedan and FX45, but not the coupe. Also, the 1990 Infiniti G20 is missing.

Then, if this is the case, my suggestion would be to write it like this:

Arcade Mode - Single Race
Arcade Mode - Time Trial

When creating my GT4 gamesave for the WRS, I used a carlist made by TB that you used to make up the GT4 leaderboard. After getting started, I realized there were a few mistake on it, especially when it came to the Mazda's, so I used the carlist from the GT4 website and am checking this site against it. So far I have found -

Yes, it sorts the entries by alphabetical order according to the car name. I'd like to have the times sorted by each car in the future, it's in the Suggestions thread.

"Free Runs" corresponds to the "Time Trial" section.
"Quick Races" corresponds to "Single Race".

The other two modes available in Arcade Mode are 2Player and LAN, if I am not mistaken.

I have raced a lot of times (for the WRS and other "online" races) using the Time Trial mode, but it never happened that it would stop me after crashing or going off course. Time Trial is basically Free Run - you just run until you are happy with your time.

Don't know if this has been mentioned or not, but the Tires menu in the GT3 leaderboard shows the GT4 tire selections.

I just submitted a time for Swiss Alps using the DFP. I later went back to edit that time and while all the information about the car was retained for the editing process, the form switched my controller type back to a DS2. Not a huge deal, but I'd imagine anyone editing their lap time would most likely be using the same controller type as when they first submitted their time.

Sorry, I was not being very clear. What I meant to say was that it seems to sort the cars/times in some random order, at least not by car name or time.

Was just looking at the GT4 licence listings and they are in an odd order...

The IA Licence comes before the IB licence and therefore out of order for the game.

Also I suggest that you change the tyre selections for the licence tests to N/A.

The License ordering is because alphabetically IA comes before IB...this is similar to the car name sorting issue that Jordan commented on earlier.

There's apparently a bug, or at least issues with that forum Eggy...It's supposed to work like this:

An individual posts a time in the Leaderboard database.

Th driver then clicks on the "Unverified" link in the new entry, and fills out the form requesting verification.

This does (is supposed to do) two things; A) Emails the request to all the members of the Leaderboard Verification Committee and B) Generates a thread in the Verification Forums, which the driver can then attach a replay to by posting to that thread.

Supposedly, only the driver (and I believe LVC members and Mods/Admins) can reply to that thread. A driver can also (once again, supposedly) post a new thread in the Verification Forum, with all the same restrictions.

It appears that what is happening is that any threads in the Verification Forum are only visible to the thread poster/Verification Request Submitter. I assume that Mods/Admins can also "see" these threads.

The only thread I can see, regardless of what temporal filter tool I use, is a thread I posted a few days ago as a "How to..." for submitting requests/replays.

I noticed that the dropdown car selector is missing the Peugeot 905 Race Car. I was going to post a lap time, but alas there was no 905 in amongst the Peugeots.

I don't know if this is a bug, but I would consider it one. I was going to post some Arcade Runs from GT3, but the tire selection drop down menu offers only tire chioces from GT4. In GT3 Arcade Mode free run and Arcade Time Trials, tires can not be selected in any way whatsoever. There is a sort of arbitrary tire called "Arcade" tires that all cars use. The dropdown tire menus for GT3 Arcade mode can either be eliminated, or changed so that the only selection available is "Arcade" tires. As of right now, there is no way to enter the proper tire choice. I was going to enter some runs as I was looking at my saved arcade laps on my hard drive, but I have well over 100 and I would hate to have to re-enter them all.

Also, is there anyway that when you pick your arcade car, the values for weight and HP could be auto filled so you don't have to look them up each time? I would be willing to look up all of the values for all arcade cars in GT3 if there is a way that this could be implemented.

All some very serious problems here, which arise from the fact that I've tried to create a Leaderboard system that works with all games. This isn't working, and I would discourage you from attempting to post any GT3 times at the moment. Your other comments are suggestions, so post those in the Suggestions thread and I will address them. Thanks!

I discovered this nice "Fastest laps thread" yesterday...

However, when you go in the GT4 arcade mode - time trial, the weight is always in lbs. Is there a possibility to have the kilograms too?
Can we have a separate box saying no modification on weight and power on the car?
And the two guys who were submitted theirs times (infinineon sport cars) have a 406 hp in their BMW M3: I can only select 405hp in the HP modification bar...
Is there a bug somewhere or NTSC, japanese and Pal version dont have the same horsepower?

I dont seem to be able to find the TVR V8S on the car list when submitting my times, looks like it got left off.

EDIT it looks like the tuscan speed 6 and the V8S have been combined into one car entry... so its

TVR Tuscan Speed Six '00 TVR V8S '91

as one car entry

In the GT4 GTMode Pratice leaderboards, when I click on my newly submitted times, they show the nos field as empty or with a yes, even when I selected it as no when I submitted my times. Just have to edit them, and then they will show the right selection.
