Building a PC - Budget increased

Sorry for the triple post but another different question:
How shall I convince my parents? I know I;m gonna get it een if they say no (im a rebel... LOL).
My current specs:
40 gb hard drive
2.53 ghz celeron D
777MB DDR RAM
Crappy motherboard (MSI Giovanni OEM)
Windows XP
Onboard intel I845 vodeo card w/ 64mb ram

How about making some coupons where they can have you do stuff(chores and such) in exchange for the computer parts. You could also tell them that it would be easier to use the newer computer due to the fact that it's faster due to the better parts.

Loved your coupon idea.. but that I will use for last resort so I don't have to do any more work that I'm doing now. :P Any other excuses or things? My rents think that my Celeron is fine. Anyone know facts to make my comp sound bad?

Tell them that you need the new computer because you are growing out of the old Celeron and that it does not provide for your needs anymore. Having an old computer is not that reliable and it's good to get a new one before the old one breaks down.

Parents, what are those?

Tell them you need the new hardware so you can run Windows 7 smoothly, which has improved security over ancient Windows XP.

He plans on using Linux on the new computer. He just needs to tell his parents that they would not need to be afraid of viruses since the new computer will run Linux.

Just be nice and tell them that you're old computer isn't running as smoothly as you like.

1st: Ummmm yea.... I'm not supposed to have internet on my computer... even though I stole the adaptor and now my dad thinks he lost it. :P
2nd: Well, I talked to him today on our way to Penns Cave and hes fine with me getting a computer, bit hes trying to make me argue nicely so that its like im selling my idea of me getting a computer. BAD TIMING. Anyone know the greek dude's rules that stated the 4 thing on how to sell something?

K, I've looked around and am going to order my computer either tonight or tomorrow (that means delay name change). Do I need a grounding bracelet?

Not really. Just don't wear a sweatshirt because they generate quite a bit of static. Make sure you touch the case for about 3 seconds or touch a copper pipe to discharge the static.

My IT class never really made use of one of those. I have never used any grounding on any of the computers that I have worked on.

I've not used a grounding bracelet for probably a decade. Don't wear socks on carpet and just touch the case regularly while working on it and it will be fine.

I haven't used one either, but if it's pretty cheap it won't hurt.

I would recommend building it in a room without carpet just to be on the safe side. Low humidity also allows for more static electricity.

Ok,screw it.. I'mma keep the money (even thought if I got it I'd need to loan). All I need is my dad to come home from his 10 flight, 7 day business trip from South America and I'll order.

Ok, so my dad says I should order it later (August) and theres no need to order now. He also told me he has a hard drive lying around at his work which was previously used to hold data for a project (320 gb). Then I also did some newspapers for my neighbor which gives me $40 more. So, here's what I have come up with:

Case (due to mobo change.. and its lit Blue!)

Mobo (USB 3.0 YEEEAAHH.. and it has TURBOV and SATA 6.0 GB/S)

RAM

CPU (QUAD core.. :D)

I have found some RAM for cheaper since your motherboard does not support the 1600 speed(without overclocking). Then with the money you save you can get a good DVD drive.

Oh really? That's the reason I chose that RAM.. And the DVD makes it more expensive. My bro and I are gonna share our external DVD drive anyways. But thanks!

Random slightly related question, is there something up with NE's links? Each posted one I try just to see the specific part ends up re-directing me to the home page??!

Edit...
Ok almost every one, the RAM one works. Odd.

Edit 2...
Well it worked once, now it doesn't again. I'm smelling some odd issue with FireFox now.

Yeah it's doing something weird with the links.

As a back check, everything (FF & NE links) still works fine with the links in my "cheap pc" thread. Dunno.

Sorry if I de-railed anything, just kinda confused is all.

How about you try to clear the Recent History. I'm not getting any of these problems with Firefox.

Woah wait.... I have a case I'm using right now woth 400W PSU. To save money, can I use it? I THINK it has 20+4 pin. It has a 20... and then 4 pins in another place of the mobo. If so, then I'll keep my current PSU and either get a Rosewill Challenger or a Rosewill Backbone or the Uber-cool Antec 300 Illusion. Then, I'll get a fan power splitter since the ASUS EVO has 2 non-CPU fan slots ($8).

Mind getting a picture? Usually the extra four pins should be labeled like +4 or have some extra plastic to help keep it together with the 20 pins. It could just be meant for the 4pin CPU power on the motherboard. I would rather use a newer power supply since they are more developed for today's hardware.

Yeah it looks like it's just a 20 pin so I would not use it. Personally if I were in your position I would try to get about $100 more into the budget. That way you can get an $80 case and a good $60 to $70 power supply. To me the low-end stuff is a bit so-so to rely on. If possible I would get a good case used(is there a craigslist site near you in Canada?).
