Anyone know some good sites on making custom go-karts from scratch?
Tried google and could only find sites selling kits. Also if you know of any good books, that would be good too.
We have a pretty good idea of what to do. But seeing some instructions would be helpfull so we dont get ourselves killed or anything.
Oh and we want to put a 250-ish cc engine on it.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

Is it possible to put in a 454 motor on a Go-Kart? :odd:

Haha, I can see it now, a go kart's fram warping around the occupant because of the imense torque. 👍

Taurine, I love the Miniature Ansen Slot mags. Slots rule! Nice work:tup:

three words: Briggs and Stratton.

also, maybe a couple of junk bikes, sone 1/4 inch steel tubing, and a piece of plywood.

I've always wanted to hook up a chainsaw motor to a bicycle chain on a bike, and have a homemade Motorcycle.

The wheels are called Tridents over here. Quite common on Holdens and Fords and the occasional Mk1 Escort etc..

I have an I/C Briggs and Stratton. 206cc producing 5HP @ 3600rpm :D I've removed the governor and now it backfires :D

It'll never get the wheels smoking, mainly because the back wheels are 265/50/15 :sly: The fronts (as seen in the pics) are 235/60/15 which might make steeing quite heavy..

I have a 5 hp Briggs and Stratton on my mini bike. My karts got a spec Parilla Leopard 125cc producing 33 hp @ about 15,000 rpms. Seriously race karts are a lot of fun.

Those wheels look way too big one front.

If I made a kart I'd probably make it more race shaped than off orad. Though really it all depends if I have some flat tarmac to try it out on.

Too big? So? They're slot Mags! @ Taurine: All sorts of hod rods here have those style wheels. They're Quite popular on old trucks and Mustangs.

i 2nd that.
i tried the 80cc shifter and MAN, i dont even want to go back to the kt100.
shifter is the way to go when karting! imo at least

Dude, my 87 MR2 runs 195/60/14s

You cart has more rubber on the ground than my 190 HP MR2

My friends and I are considering putting one of the extra 4A-G (1600CC engine, stock 120 HP) onto a frame of some sort for a purpose built "race kart" thinger for autocross. That will get us killed. Instantly :sly:

That motor of mine is only temporary. I want to get the whole thing running before I repower it. Besides, if anything brakes I would prefer that it breaks with the limited speed/acceleration that that engine can provide.

I'm going for a motorcycle engine next, no less then 250cc and depending on how successful it is I might turbo it afterwards :trouble:

One word... GSX-R1100 Turboed, bored, honed and stroked to 1260cc !.....

(That may be a little more than one workd, but I'm sure you get the idea ;) )

No no no, by all means you go ahead and pay for all the work and send it down to me and I'll be sure to take some pictures kthxbye :sly:

As much as I would like to go over 1000cc common sense is making me want to stay below 750 ~ish.

:D:tup: - I also have a passenger seat from a P10 Primera which I didn't have mounted for that pic.

Thing looks like it could off road...

Hmm.. turbo the 4A...

Oh, and we have plenty of FWD trannys lyaing around as well. Just would have to jerry rig the shifter cables.

It's original purpose is for off-roading as the plans call for pneumatic tyres. Since I'm just interesting in hooning around on the tarmac I opted for the styleh tridents :D

With over 1/2 a metre of rubber to be turned by that piddly little motor I don't see too many smokey burnouts but however, time will tell :trouble: My dad actually suggested I get two extra wheels and fit them with a skinnier tyre solely for skids 👍
